  1. First of all are you sure you have ALL of the documentation? XW-P1 Manual http://support.casio...b_XWP1-E-1B.pdf XW-P1 Appendix http://support.casio...PPEND-WL-1A.pdf XW-P1 MIDI Implementation Specs http://support.casio...1&cid=008013001 XW-G1 Manual http://support.casio...b_XWG1-E-1B.pdf XW-G1 Appendix http://support.casio...PPEND-WL-1B.pdf XW-G1 MiDI Implementation Specs http://support.casio.com/manualfile.php?rgn=1&cid=008013003 Somehow I think the MIDI Specs will help you with what you are trying to accomplish. Gary
  2. What exactly do you mean by "You can't hear the XW-P1?" Do you mean the keyboard is not putting out audio or that cakewalk won't play back the sequence you recorded? If you are sending your audio output from the keyboard to your computer soundcard's line in, bear in mind that you have to adjust your windows mixer settings to use the line in as the default input and set the line and capture levels to audible levels before you will hear the XW on your computer speakers.
  3. I don't have any trouble with the speed of this site. What's your connection speed and what type of connection do you have?
  4. Thanks for pointing me in the right direction Mike. I'll try some experimenting with this stuff in the next few days and get back to you if I need any more assistance.
  5. Well, Google translate makes a mockery of your attempts at writing in Hindi, But anyway, if someone can step up with the REAL answer, we have a fine assortment of FABULOUS PRIZES waiting for you behind the curtain. Or you can take the Peter Griffin Mystery Box if you so choose! :D But hurry now, this is a one time only limited offer available only to the choicest of internet couch potatoes so dial me up now. Operators are standing by!!! (I really do hope someone explains this one to me sometime soon. It's driving me a little mental... )
  6. Title sort of says it all. From reading the manual it says the step sequencer output is played on channels 8 to 16. I have all of those channels enabled to record in my cakewalk sequencer, however I'm still only getting whatever I hit on those keys mirrored to every channel instead of the step sequencer accompaniment. On older Casios there's a MIDI setting to enable accompaniment out. What am I missing on the XW-P1 that I can't accomplish this seemingly simple task? Mike? Is there a simple, or even a not so simple answer to this one? Really need to know. It's driving me batty. The manual may as well be written in Sanskrit for all the help it's giving me on this one. Regards, Gary
  7. Just for the record, I'm using Firefox 17.0 for Ubuntu Linux without any problems loading the soundcloud widgets on their or other embedded pages (eg. keyboardforums.com). On this site, however, I am merely getting a pale blue rectangle where the widget should be, so don't break out the champagne quite yet. I'm also using the latest version of the Firefox addon Noscript but have allowed the soundcloud site's scripts. casiomusicforums.com so far, has achieved an imperfect implementation of embedding other sites' widgets. At least youtube stuff seems to work ok though.

    New sounds!

I posted a message yesterday in the general Casio forum about having the mods create an upload/download section right here on the forum for new sounds/beats/ins file/etc... That would be the best way, in my mind, to avoid unnecessary duplications. Still waiting to hear back from the forum owners.
  9. Soundcloud does not require being logged in to listen to a tune. On the other hand, are you running any sort of adblock or script blocker on your browser? That may be why a direct link does not work for you.
  10. Just a suggestion, but shouldn't the forum have an upload/download section for crucial and not so crucial Casio files like Cakewalk INS configuration files, Sound Programs and Patches and perhaps even some MIDI Riffs and Beats and maybe even a user photo section? I have a whole bunch of Casio INS files for various XW, WK and CTK models just looking for a permanent home I could upload. Doable or not? Gary
  11. If it ain't fun, it ain't music...

      Gnomo Alegre

      I think the same.

  12. Thanks for listening to my tunes. I appreciate the compliment. Also, your studio looks much neater than my setup. I intentionally left the snakes' nest of cables on the floor out of the shot :D BTW, I saw Wakeman in Montreal when he was still touring with Yes. I was in the cheap seats above and to the left of the stage and had a great view of his keyboards as well. In those days though, all I could do was dream about playing keyboards.
  13. You're going to need this file to get your cakewalk to recognize all of the XW-p1's voices. It's a simple text file you can open and examine in notepad if you want to take a peek inside it. http://acapella.harm...47&d=1341648791 Just unzip it and save it to wherever you plan to save your MIDI files and then once you set up your Options/MIDI Devices and Options/Instruments, add it to your instruments list and it will recognize all the patches your XW is capable of. Then you'll be able to start recording and playing back MIDI sequence files. To record Audio you'll need a cable like I linked above from Amazon and you can record the audio tracks directly in Music Creator or using a separate program like WAV recorder and an MP3 conversion program like LAME. Here's a sample youtube search with a whole mess of videos on setting up and using Music Creator 6. http://www.youtube.c...urce=opensearch And here's the Cakewalk Online Video Tutorials on using the program. http://www.cakewalk....ic-Creator.aspx If you still have any questions about recording after these, then just ask them in here. 14. When I was a teen growing up in Montreal, I would have killed to own a PolyMOOG but those suckers sold for $5K!!!! That was a sizable down payment on a HOUSE in those days!!! Needless to say my only options for affordable keyboards in those days were either an accordion or one of those cheezy $50 Magnus Electric Chord Organs In those days I'd rather spend my money on vinyls from Gentle Giant and ELP than lessons on how to become an organ grinder, so all I can say nowadays is that kids are amazingly fortunate to grow up in a time when the power of a $20,000.00 Fairlight can be had for the price of a snazzy winter outfit Looking forward to seeing your rig EDB and to hearing peoples's tunes here on the board. I've shamelessly added a link to my soundcloud page in my sig for people to laugh at and revile me... I don't care... Lennon said it best! "Genius is pain!" :D
  15. I really don't consider myself to be much more than an advanced hobbyist myself. I'm self taught on keyboards ever since they started becoming affordable over the last 15 years or so. Still, like 10,000 monkeys pounding on 10,000 typewriters for 10,000 years I've managed to crank out a few good tunes over the years. I play music only for the sheer enjoyment of hearing pretty noises coming out of the magic boxes :D
  16. Thanks John. It uses Triton AI synthesis, has about 500 programs and another 350 odd combis or performance modes if you will. The synth sounds are amazingly well done. I've made some really nice tunes with it over the years and it's served me quite well. I wish when I'd bought it though, that I would have sprung for the extra 400 bux and bought the 88 key weighted model. Then again the 76 key model only weighs in at 22 lbs. A breeze to move around. Maybe one of these days I'll sell it and get something more advanced, but for the time being it's still making some great music Gary

  18. Hi Lookin4. Greetings back atcha also from the Great White North For tips on sequencing and recording with the XW-P1 take a look at what I've been posting in this thread: By the sound of it though, your problem is that your sequencing programs aren't properly configured for the XW-P1 and therefore revert to general midi (GM) toneset. Reply in the thread I linked with more information about what programs you are using and what exactly you are trying to record and I'll try and help you out. The XW-P1 has a few quirks when it comes to PC sequencing programs.
  19. To record and sequence MIDI files you only need the USB connection. To record the audio out onto your computer you can hook the audio line outs on the XW directly to the computer's audio in with a proper adapter cable, recvord it as a WAV file and then convert it to MP3 or OGG or FLAC or whatever compressed format suits you. The line level outputs on the XW are directly compatible with the line level input plug (blue jack) on your computer's sound card so a direct connection is doable, though I find it preferable to use a small mixing console to simultaneously feed my studio monitors with the sound output and the computer's line input at the same time. It's up to you how much you want to spend on your rig. Here's a proper adapter cable if you want to hook to computer directly: http://www.amazon.co...male mono cable And here's the mixer I use with a slightly more elaborate hookup to feed my studio monitors and computer at the same time. http://www.amazon.co...keywords=1202fx Either layout would work for you, but you'd have to rely on your computer speakers to hear your XW while using the simple cable adapter solution. Ffor clarity's sake I've attached a flowchart diagramming how my own studio is laid out. Regards, Gary
  20. I'd recommend Cakewalk Music Creator 6. It's not too pricey, it's fully featured, and the XW-P1 is fully supported with an INS file so all the patches and contrrollers are recognized by Cakewalk products. And if you find it trickey to work with, it's also well documented with How To videos on their website and on youtube.
  21. Thanks John... I think it should be turned on by default though. I managed to find it, but if you hadn't told me about it, I never would have known where to look. Most other boards simply put it up as an optional checkbox before you hit the reply button. Thanks again, Gary
  22. One suggestion I'd like to make about the new forum. It would be nice if there was email notification on threads which you posted in or requested to follow. Otherwise, once traffic builds up it could become confusing trying to keep track of which threads are new and which ones aren't. Gary
  23. Hi James, Mike, et al... I'm happy to sign up here. I've owned my XW about 6 months now. I was one of the first in Canada to receive one. I still find it an exciting instrument with almost infinite depth and complexity. I was a regular follower of Craig Anderton's thread over on Harmony Central and I found a lot of answers, but by no means do I yet consider myself an expert on this intricate piece of hardware. I'm happy to contribute where I can and follow the Q&A's with interest as they continue to unravel the mystery that is the XW-P1... Looking forward to talk to you all... Gary
