  1. Not near my PX now but there is a way to set it to either advance or step back with a foot pedal  but only to the adjacent Stage Setting...and you have to pick one way or the other.  In a song where I needed to switch between two settings more than once, I just set up sequential repeats of settings.  That takes up a couple extra Setting spaces but I had plenty to spare so it wasn't a problem.  I'm sure someone else here can give you the exact menu setting that accomplishes this.

  2. Thanks for the advice everyone.  I posted my work to date in the downloads.  Have rehearsal Saturday so need to stop programming and start learning parts but may come back to it after as I'm not totally happy with it.   Brad...the pedal idea is good...may try it for this...works great for the clav wah.  I had created a stage setting for intro sound for Coldplay's Sky Full of Stars a long time ago that used the pedal to create a very slow filter sweep at my discretion....that's where it works best...when you need the sweep at your discretion at irregular intervals....especially when both of your hands are busy on the keys.  Really clever feature especially in the absence of an expression pedal.

  3. Thanks Brad...yes tried SFZ sound in downloads.  The crescendo for the ones I tried is too slow for the RP sound and when I tried to tighten up the times it just starts to pop from level to level.  I'm making some progress starting from scratch but tough to nail it across the sound...probably being too picky.

  4. I am trying to create the synth sound for Robert Palmer's "Addicted to Love".  The part is gently SFZ (punch to start with an almost immediate reduction in volume that then increases) and it does it in a fairly short amount of time (within a second or so).  I worked with hex layer filter and amp envelopes for a couple hours last night and just couldn't come up with a way to get it to do this smoothly.  Seems like as soon as I pulled in the time on the envelopes too far, the volume increase would just go from slow to suddenly popping back up.   Any suggestions?

  5. Joaco, having trouble pasting the link but see a thread on this forum called CC102 where I had an exchange with Mike Martin about this issue about five year ago.  Bottom line is that there is no solution except adding a product like the MIDI Solution Event Processor between your Casio and Novation.

  6. OK Brad, that worked thanks!  I now froze the master EQ settings too.  Now I need to figure the rest of my system out.  I'm in a new band and purchased a SpaceStation so I'm trying to get back up to speed on programming settings for the songs (much less learn parts) and I'm getting frustrated with the relative levels between and within settings and then the tone I'm getting out of the SpaceStation….and of course this distortion issue which has three possible sources as I have a mixer in between the PX 5S and the SpaceStation to allow my NE4 and guitar to run into the SSV3 too.  I know the SSV3 is better with a hot input so I've been trying to push the signal a bit....guess the mixer is the best place to do that.  I think I'm getting to old for all these moving parts....

  7. I tried the +- thing...nothing changed.  Also, I see I have compressor filter on but nothing else...just like the factory default.  I guess it's the EQ causing the distortion problem.  That said, is there another was to restore factory defaults for compressor and EQ if the +- isn't working?  Would just like to know what the default settings are so I can start fresh...thanks.

  8. Thanks Brad.  Ideally wanted to have a couple drum sounds near the bottom and a couple near the top but did exactly what you said as a workaround and put them together near the bottom so I didn't have to go through turning off all the instruments in between.

  9. Building a Stage Setting for Robert Palmer's "Simply Irresistible".  I only need a couple of the drum tones and need the rest turned off so I can work in the other synth parts.  Is there a quick way to take one of the kits and turn all of the tones off or do I have to do it note-by-note?

Follow up...found a work around but still curious to know if you can do this.

  10. Has anyone tried to model this?  Does anyone actually own or have access to one?  Have watched Youtube videos.  Unique sound that appeared on many tracks in the late 70's/early 80's.  Interesting set up with the two tone banks that could be separately pitch adjusted.  Also had functions for tremolo and variable decay.  Betting this could be replicated quite well on the PX 5S.

  11. Pin, just a little more info on this.  Been a while since I set this up for my Nord so I just rechecked.  Since you have six sliders which can control a maximum of two things each, you need to set this up with three sliders controlling one drawer each and three sliders controlling two drawbars each if you choose to use only sliders.  It limits your flexibility but I was and am not a sophisticated enough B3 player that it really bothered me.  If it is a problem, you could use the knobs or set up different stage settings with different combinations of dual drawbar control for different songs.  Also, a further hint on how to prevent the PX keys from triggering notes on the Kurz without blocking the MIDI data from the sliders controlling the drawbars...you need to use two zones.  Let me know if you get stuck and I'll help.  JJ

  12. Yes...doable.  Go to your favorite piano Stage Setting and then following the procedures to edit the slider & knob assignments.  Get a list of the CC numbers for the Kurz drawbars because that is what you are going to want to change the assignments to (either in your Kurz manual or I found them on line very easily). I'm guessing you want to use the sliders to control the drawbars...limitation is there are nine drawbars but only six sliders on the PX...couple of options.  You can use knobs to control the extra three drawbars or you can double up control of the three extra drawbars with three others as each slider (and knob too) can be assigned to two things...that's my approach.  You will also want to reverse the max and min settings so 127 is the min and 0 the max...this way the sliders increase volume when you pull them down just like typical organ drawbars.  Final thing is...do you plan play the Kurz from the PX or do you want to play the piano on the PX keyboard and the organ on the Kurz?  If the latter, you need to stop MIDI note data going from the PX to the Kurz....I'll let you figure out how to do that...good way to learn the architecture of the PX.  Enjoy!
