  1. I was wondering if it would be possible to integrate song mode and stage mode together or parts of it

I know some workings are fixed inside of the PX5S but maybe something could be routed.

The reason for this are the arpeggio's and phrase to have a way to let them sync at key press not with pedal.

Its a trip to built a song in song mode with hexlayers limits are quick noticeable when both

hexlayer occupy the same zone  if you want hexlayer sounds on the same zone as well in stage mode isn't

possible when its occupies song mode channel 1/2.

Another Idea would be the phrase sequencer that can be set which can be found in the common menu of a stage

if its possible to be assignable to any channel as well set fixed and sync start from that  channel say 10 or 16 that

phrase channel seems to be an additional nint'h phrase available within the PX5S eight other phrases sequencers.

This phrase makes it possible to have two phrases to be played on zone 1 but it needs to be triggered before hand

If it was possible to split range both of them to hexlayer for instance layer 1/3 gets the one and layer 4/6 gets the

other would be narly to hear dual phrases played simultaneously.

    (BTW)

I actually tried all phrases on zone 1 with the song sequencer ,the main stage phrases get priority which the phrase

on the console doesn't , it gets suppressed or chopped it wont be the case if both phrases are recorded intermitted but that is

tricky as well. Song mode phrases do play nicely along , I've tried it with one hexlayer  on zone 1 in song mode , stage mode and

console phrase, Console phrase plays chopped above all.

  2. Gorgeous , I would like to add and its an opinioned discussion I wanted to place for a while now.

This not the post for it my apologies, The flavor of sound mostly the first stock sound grand piano

I've been picking for long that isn't the right sound for a song , Because its to wide and or to bright

sometimes you want grand but stuffy, dark and woody like an aged piano that been living in an auditorium.

It took me long getting that piano sound into the right mood of a song cause how does one select or

set a piano sound like mono stereo less EQ , reverberation type to the right amount of vibe feeling fitting to

    that particular song.

I've seen lots of video pass of popular songs where that piano sounds is fitted at the same atmosphere , Like

the "Pyramid song" or "Lady Madonna" . Gawd I've tried so many times for the first one its a challenge.

  3. It would be fun if the step-sequencer also capable of random stuff but there a limit to even hardware dedication to arpeggio it would be a total different machine as well instead of an instrument. But (here i go again) That can also be said of the Chain function setting up different patterns from the step and have the chain dice them all. Its the versatility of the XW functions that let me think of possible things like if.

Random modes (four of them, in fact, covering different octave ranges) are also available in the XW-P1, XW-G1 and PX-560. I would assume that they are also available in the MZ-X instruments. And it would surprise me if they were not in the CT-X instruments.

So, looks like your wish was granted before you even made it. ;->

But, it seems you want a configurable random arpeggio mode, so maybe your wish has not been granted after all. What parameters would you like to be configurable? If you have an XW-P1 or XW-G1, it is possible to run the step sequencer alongside the arpeggiator (the latter can automatically start and stop the former), which allows a whole bunch of different parameter modifications by using the sequencer's four control tracks.

Access to control track and or random velocity also a way to make it travel 2 octave or from octave to octave from one starting position. If the steps can be edited that way it could have sweeping patterns, random velocity can sound wicked with Hexlayer cause of the the wave-sequencing. I love to play with note length sometimes with release or sustain with single tones using arpeggio its easy.

Having it done with random release would be more surprising to each step while remaining to have random notes. Currently thanks to the PX5S four arps I'm trying to do separate timing something like a wait to each zone to make it seems like they all play in unison. Trying this out with one sound with different lengths using the LFO within a tone and hexlayer , believe me its sounds pretty narly :)).

I need to fix the XW-G1 to discover that again though still haven't fixed it whatever made it not turn on again 🤔

  5. I've jumped into the CT-S1 this is just my experience for now ,

When it's turned on bam instant play, less than second piano improv possible.

After five minutes I've figured out how tone variation is used to select sound .

Some other things I learned reading the forum (thank everyone) like the manual

how to change reverb , Eq. Add layer sound with button key combination however

you need notes aside to remember how to select them.

Every tone has something to add like surround (speakers) EQ, reverb for that particular sound

That one mono tone surprised me the only thing about it I was quick to automatically reach for

the bender which wasn't there haha.

The one thing less easy to use was the recorder , Its simple to record but playing back a recording again

was a hassle , I kept press - holding until the point getting worry the button gets wrecked.

I got surprised by while recording in the midi recorder the tone recorded with will remain and be played when

a tone is selected to play over it so you can record a bass part and play piano over that. Didn't expect such

    functionality.

64 sound polyphony is nearly enough for 3 tones at once the third tone being from the midi recorder

This keyboard has some seamless sound switching this keyboard can play 3 tones at once a tone a layer and

the midi recording. Once a tone is played it can sustain while another tone can be selected to play.

Needles to say the demo demonstrated this :).

The feel of the key's is phenomenal light and responsive , In my opinion my morning improvisations sessions

are a breeze on the CT-S1 before I go on the PX. The key's are great for organ and synth stuff as well I'll

probably hook it up to the PX one way or another.

Hooking it up to Chordana wasn't a success for me yet with cable to the Ipad i'm probably not doing something

    correctly.

Wanted the carry bag and dongle for it but umm the price tag on those made me hold out for while :0.

I've chose the white CT-S1 cause the looks and the color have to me a feel of some classic keyboards.

  6. The parts I've ordered have arrived , I've got fresh new key-rubber, key's and a bending wheel, The only thing that could not be delivered are the knobs. I'm happy to have spare key's now. But another problem arises its one thing after the other ...

The XW doesn't startup no more. I'm aching to sample stuff and do some solo synth stuff on it and now that happens -_- aaargh.

  7. This morning I was up early, Too early than I liked. Did my thing this came out of it.

Honestly it came together cause I finally understand a few principles to stitch things

up and make it sounds whole, Plus last of couple weeks I've been making so many

improvisation shorts for melody's with the piano recording them all as phrases its what

made this tune sound like it is. I love the PX5S.

I wondered what this was. I have an entire sample bank for my Alesis Fusion labeled "Synth1" with some descriptions-had no idea what these were from until you posted this. Apparently some programmer for the Alesis Fusion created these when the original by Daichi was released, since the Fusion was released in 2005 and the virtual synth1 was released in 2002 accoridng to wikipedia. Taiho Yamada developed the Fusion's synth design, i suspect Daichi and he might have worked together since FM appeared on the Fusion when no-one else was using developing it anymore including Yamaha-and it is part of Synth1's design-and this same Fyusion sound designer also provided another huge bank of Nordlead sounds for the Fusion. So there are distinct parallels, vey interesting. I don't usually care for virtual instruments-although I use the Coolsoft virtual synth and soundfonts, and the Casio CZ virtual synth, but i'll take another look at this Synth1.

That a nice synopsis , I've dabbled with virtual instruments but its not to my comfort neither I do make my re-entry with that though a little. I remember Synth1 original made for Macintosh during the day's the influence of it make me wonder why it didn't come to the pc earlier. I'm quite envious about people owning an alesis make me wish I've did my re-entry in keyboards back in 2001. The Alesis keyboards have quiet and reputation, Its probably forgotten it rivaled the Korg Z1 or Phrophecy.

The only thing that stills rings in my mind is that Synth1 was the standard learning synthesis in software form cause of the things it could do with modulating you couldn't in a hardware synth.

  9. Got my CT-S1 today took a while but its here. Thinking about to write a review about it here.

I can tell now I love the size the sound, I'ts the white version but it seems more the color of

the commodore 64 XD. So you might call it a classic color. Anyway if I'm used to it ill write about it.

  10. I've lately turned into an arpeggiator / phrase aficionado "always wanted to say that" :)

But there something that could uplift all Casio keyboards having them , I love all small incremental

upgrade Casio did to all keyboards. The arpeggio are very deep and versatile the control tracks

are a stroke of genius I loved it in the XW keyboards and even more in the PX5S.

Arpeggio have evolved so much through the years they can do so much more now , Asking for that

would be to much implementing. One such option I would like to have certain as an aspect of music

is an random option for arpeggiator or something similar in a simple work around way maybe random

velocity if that kind of engineering is easy with existing arpeggio's.

Of all possibilities for what an arpeggiator adds, Random would be more viable it's use fits well in musical

    genre like classic and edm/house.

    Notice ()

I forgot to mention that the PX5S has an random arpeggiator my apology for that ,Its not fully configurable

for step edit or any other control option, Its in there but as fixed arpeggio.

It does have lighted keys-and the manual is strangely broken up-at least online as several separate downloads wherever I looked. Strangest of all-it has a 16 track sequencer with a system track and a mixer-I don't know of any other Casio this early on that had such a thing in a piano-weighted keyboard, except the PX575 and that one only had 6 tracks. Very interesting Casio. I wish he'd ship it, definitely nice to have and to play. Look at the wood end caps-wow!

    Casio PL-40.jpg

Wow that a cool design I've never seen nor heard of it.  Lately I'm taking notes of some of Casio's designs.

A few day's ago I wanted to make a post about that topic. As I've seen much of their PCB have changed allot

as well as I've seen with CT-S1 PCB. Compared with the XW that huge.

  12. Did an Saturday night session putting a stage together.

edited for this  Drums , HexDrumkit, Lead ,  Bass. for balancing the sounds.

Drum pattern Zone 1 and 2 recorded with Phrase sequencer.

Bass pattern I've chopped from Phrase Preset 021 ,

Fun fact I've lately used lots of parts from arp / Phrase preset to

record either a lead or Bass pattern back into sequencer selecting

bits that I like by timing with a low tempo.

I called it chopping base because of the way I've used preset to record new patterns.

I've edited also a bad part in the recording as a reverse part if you wonder what that about :).

  13. At work I was reading this thread , I thought by myself no way.

A few months ago I couldn't even find anything.

Googled and behold there it was, My XW-G1 will be happy very happy.

Well this actually made my weekend and its a long holiday weekend as well.

  14. Remember Mike PolySynth in this stage the wave-form is Sawtothwave1 to 6,

I thought at first pitch was used to have that kind of sound spread but the wave-form

have other cycles I believe and in AMP setting they where panned each differently.

I've tried using pitch with hexlayer but being weak with music theory using pitch

I have no example how to do that. or find a template stage that utilize this.

    EDIT

(A sample would be nice to hear how hexlayers using pitch musically would be appreciated.)

As it be I was wrong there is an example to use as template PX5SALL file has Rock Concert

this has a Rock Guitar hexlayer that uses four layers each tuned with pitch and coarse tune.

I was so occupied editing hexlayers that the sound of Rock Concert occurred to me while doing.

I've experimented to have the velocity act on the envelope in a way with Amp and Filter by using the

LFO to create some space between all layers so they all get triggered at different intervals. I thought also using the arpeggio CC94 and have different

levels of delay at each layer. But the more I do it the messier it gets I have no clue what I'm doing XD.

Im not sure but I think the envelopes in hexlayers envelope can be triggered with arpeggio velocity

or triggered by velocity when recording in phrase sequencer ,at least the first stage gets

triggered and decay's when the release is longer following the other envelope stages.

I start playing with the envelopes creating drums or short release tones. got different results and an

idea how it all gets together but like I said I'm not sure.

It gave me the idea using release ,sustain, cutoff and resonance with the arpeggio to trigger a part of

a layer with it at certain velocity levels but that didn't work unless there is space using the LFO to sweep

    through.

  15. One of the beauty of hexlayers,

If a layer is selected and a tone from that layer is shaped,

for that tone a different tone can be selected without changing

the value's that shaped the previous tone.

Another aspect of that is tones from a hexlayer can be shaped

even more using arpeggio/phrase or any other midi modifier to

form a desired effect into that particular shaped tone.

Something which isn't possible with a single tone where you have

to single handed copy value's over.
