  1. I'm actually baffled by the sheer amount of cables inside the XW some of them where not positioned right.

Those cables are actually the less expensive  FC cables. You can find them on alliexpress same cables as

in the computer similar flat cables can be found . I'm actually going to replace a few of them myself cause

its mostly the module with the step sequence needing to get stable.

  2. After weeks the music shops are opening very carefully following the guidelines of RIVM ( they make the guidelines from the dutch government for covid )

That cool probably won't be able to play key's or maybe if they allow with disposable gloves, Can play with potential keyboards again like the

CDP *maybe.  I"m happy about it cause in a way its a place to be and explore getting new info whats ahead. I'm not going right away expecting a small

gathering of musicians whom doing it as a profession, If the piano and keyboard department is free to access its a yay.

  3. January I was listening to some Kraftwerk to get some inspiration with synthesis ,

To me their sound is the pinnacle  to clean and keep it simple synth sounds.

Heck one could say the EDM drumkit for the PX5S I put for download based on what I wanted to try

of a song from Florian - Plastic pollution. I was really young when I heard kraftwerk autobahn years later

the sound mesmerized me that electronic could make such sounds, the idea to be in a time that when

I got smitten with synths and dreaming owning one which took years.

Their music influence played a big role in pop and rap music during the eighties and after.

  4. I'm gonna ride along  this  post cause I didn't want to make a separate post about zones , I found something

that is not what I've expected to be. hoping someone can tell this is something what Iv'e probably missed all

    these years having the PX5S.

I had a stage with  LFO on several sounds divided at zones 1/2  controller knob 1 programmed to control

rate, and assigned to these zones. When I play the stage and changes value's, knob 1 changed LFO value's.

That happen but also that LFO remained during stage switching all due to this stage I've made.

Reset the knobs reset the value's and later restarting the px5 to get rid of it. I discarded that stage could not

    solve what happen.

This time I've fiddled with sounds on each zone and programmed controller knobs so each zone gets the right

value change by the knob assigned to them.

While setting knob 4  T1 to Osc frequency  and T2 to CC 17. And zone 3 to be assigned to knob 4 only. I've saved the stage.

I could let knob 4 change the value's accordingly at the sound on zone 3 while I play, and the px5s did it nicely.

Until I switched to zone 1 and noticed knob 4 had change to LFO - rate , switched to zone 2 and knob 4 changed to distortion

value's. the only way to let knob 4 do what it should for zone 3 alone It had to be switch to zone 3 and stay there or else

knob 4 would do only that for the zone Its on and not what the stage was programmed for.

So my thinking is that previous stage with LFO could have the same thing, stage controller gets globally programmed

assigned to a zone but if you have more zones with LFO assigned to a sound with DSP or a hexlayer LFO and switch

from zone to zone one of the LFO remains and probably does remain switching to other stage's.

I think to have missed where each zone gets a function assigned to a knob for for all zones when switching zones.

This a side of the px5s I did not know or forgot that how zones work.

  5. A while ago I made a crunchy sound with Ring Modulator,

I've choose ring mod cause of the metallic nature it gives.

I didn't noticed at first then after tweaking the value's for it

but when listening I found a way cool movement happen

looking into the manual, there is an LFO with the DSP.

What happened was this the sound slowly went up an

octave and down again and repeated it , first I though it

was the arpeggio and turned it off. I was baffled it was the

    Ring modulator doing it.

I've looked into the manual which DSP where doing this also

and thought it was the LFO doing that affecting the frequency ,

automatically thinking all DSP with LFO could do it but that

    wasn't the case.

RIng modulator has an internal oscillator with an parameter

value for OSC frequency and this is what makes it go up and

down. Surprise me more having that in the PX5S I'm no DSP

expert but to me next to DSP Delay its another gem inside the

    PX5S.

Using this DSP is different then using the arpeggio or a controller.

This DSP makes a different kind of  movements couple it with the arpeggio

or another controller for some interesting atmospheric effects. Or layered

it with a similar sound and bounce it together on two zones. Idea's coming up.

This is an advanced type I can hear this effect going up and down

I've looked in the XW if Ring modulator does it also and it does but

not that much if the OSC frequency set low as well the rate and depth

give a minimum on movement like a half of an octave.

On the PX5S setting the  frequency low it stay's leveled and the higher

the frequency the more it moves up and down setting the rate and depth

to the low makes the sound slowly go up and down an full octave.

( I have to add I didn't experiment much with long release sounds with Ringmod

the crunchy sound was short release and arpeggiated; I got so many

sound projects going I hope to post something soon with this DSP effect)

    That is truly neat.

  6. How was it the FZ was capable to make new waveform by drawing them it seems a powerful tool for an keyboard.

I'm asking this because there are now plugins that let you draw you're own waveform and I've taken notice of the FZ

that was light years ahead making that possible how come we've never seen such powerful feature return in an age

and time in keyboards where they have more cpu power , storage and memory to accomplish that.

  7. NeonStreets Performance [PX5S]

    View File

My weekend Jam Stage performance patch eighties synth pop vibe

I want to share with ya'll.

I love the eighties music you know driving round the strip , sky lines, sunset

beach view, mountain high city lights , plane fly by condense lines.

This stage has a fixed drum pattern on C2 gets triggered by velocity

Its done with the arpeggio cause of the snappy dynamics I like.

The stage is at tempo 120 that not really preferable as 110 but hey its me XD.

*I'm working on a FM-ish bass its not in this stage but a reminder to

myself improving this stage for later. *

    Enjoy.

Sounds like you've been studying AlenK's docs! I have been. He has an entire section describing the key follow function-I was just studying it last night. Many of my synths have had it from way back-it's use can be subtle or quite drastic I recall. I haven't played with it much with  the XW-P1 yet. I have been playing with the transpose setting-changing the pitches of individual tracks within a part-can offset one melody part from another to play in different keys-offset from the "master transpose" accomplished with the lowest octave used to trigger different keys within a sequence. Put another way-if i create a sequence in the key of C-which is what is recommended-every transposition using the lower octave transposes the entire sequence all at once-but transpose offsets can be created within each track of each part. Can create interesting combinations of keys in one part. The more I learn the XW-the more amazing it becomes.

I didn't know he did haven't looked knowing all hexlayers between keyboards that have it differs,

I know solo synth has key-follow but having the XW-G1 without the hexlayers I didn't expect it covers that.

But do you mean the transpose setting changing of pitches with the hexlayers it sounds like you're

trying a transpose sweep at once with all layers but still remaining there key-offset if by that you mean

key-follow position to each layer. I'm trying to get a picture of this.

I can use tips to have a work around stuff or effective patterns based on hexlayers.

  9. The arpeggio has shown me more stuff lately I didn't knew it could do.

I actually wanted to share delving deeper in it.

but first a wish for expanding it more.

Wanted the arpeggio to start playing at a fixed key point, When I press all the key's. Like when I play a

C major with it wherever i press a key that C major is always played with the arpeggio.

just like how phrase sequencer uses [fix] and but I could do it by recording an arpeggio pattern in a

phrase that doesn't do the dynamic of the arpeggio any good so I rather not. Its possible to trigger it

from a key and select a key range to a fixed key also a solution if the stage renamed to C2 Blazingpad

it will work. ( so I hope an advanced arpeggio in the future).

But that doesn't leave us hanging much what the arpeggio can do I've found a limit with the drum edit

however it go's deep it doesn't have key-follow that a shame that function alone is a power tool.

And that brings me to the arpeggio, The arpeggio pattern can be silenced either from low or high.

So when you have a sound with hex-layer and either heighten  key-follow or the set it lower it silence

the notes up or lower from where it start. It doesn't completely silence notes it actually depends how far

    key-follow is increased or decreased.

The next hex-layer project  to make is within a hexlayer sounds to build cascading key-follow to see

how that will affect the soundscape when arpeggio hits it and what sounds to make of it.

    I've accidentally found that out

( I was pondering how about a duo trigger for both arpeggio and phrase on the same zone but with an off-set

they can have both the benefits of what they can do for instance arpeggio can be triggered by phrase seq but

a negative off-set prevents the phrase from playing from which it still remains the function of playing either by

fixed key value triggered from any key. both arpeggio and phrase get an off-set that doesn't trigger either one

of them but can use some of their functions fully.) *I'm a nut with this 😋 I'm getting addicted to the PX5S 😂*

XW-a, thank you for that information. My wife and I had intended to go to San Sebastian in Spain this year and possibly busking a bit on the way down but of course with the coronavirus we won’t be doing any of that. I did play in Amsterdam years and years ago with a guy called Kevin Ayres and we had an Irish band play relief for us who were called “hot House flowers”. Ironically enough that was when I realized I never wanted to be famous, really. I will tell you why...... All these guys came up to us as if we were superstars and I knew if they saw us playing in the local bar the following night they wouldn’t have even seen us. It was just because the band had a famous name and Kevin as used to be a rockstar.(Even though we toured Europe the best soundman was in Amsterdam)
But I hear a lot of nice things about living in Nordic countries in Europe, all good.

well it seems my busking will be put on hold for quite a while

but if you ever see an old guy playing  a Casio wearing a hat in Amsterdam come and say hello to me.

    Hugh

People in Netherlands love good music we seem busy walking and  passing by but surely stop and soak the atmosphere of the music is the charm of the big city  ,  I'll sure be putting my thumbs up and fill the hat :)).

  11. Just out of interest went searching for PX160 and PX360 (NL Europe) Well the 160 is not available anymore replaced with PX-S1000, the PX360 if you're lucky you can find them new (if). The 160 was a better price candidate and keybed (but was riddled with key trouble still the best key I've felt) and for the 360 if the action of the key isn't any different the PX 560 would be the better candidate.

My opinion though but if I could have it now it would be the PX 160 fore sure I still have the muscle memory of the feel from it no pun intended.

How is busking in the Netherlands?

Less proliferate during the years past, In bigger city's you'll find some

normally near supermarkets. And now with the corona at hand its only

a few stray musicians playing literally everywhere even in trains.

Its hard on some people clearly not the smart ones  to remain at social distance

some keep gathering. This Easter weekend alone the police wrote out 1800  ticket

ranging from 300 to 4000 Euro's. They even had to stop a train from going further

because there where to many people on it. but I'm digressing here.

  13. To me each keyboard has its specific flavor, The  PX5S high end stage piano with synth

totally different then XW-G1 synth to how it sounds both different sound flavor , same for

roland D-05 another flavor how it sounds. There are lots of keyboards which have a specific

sound I like,  The quality of the sound is just as important.

Take piano if it where like eight years ago I would take any digital piano within a budget of 300

euro cause it has piano sounds. But that wouldn't satisfy me in a bit if I'll get more experience and want

more expressive sounds grands , mono , old , low eq and what not that another flavor and I might

be spending more for that one digital piano if I could get those sounds. each step of the way someone

willing for higher good feeling keyboard nice sounds etc to get that expressive performance .

I have a selection of keyboards and apps to suite my needs and if I want a specific sound I go for that

nowadays's its the PX5S hexlayer that fulfill my needs. Next time it could be the XW-G1 or the D-05.

What matters also to me is capability to expand certain needs in performance and sound I enjoy with music.

I have a few keyboards on my wish list just for the sounds and capability's. I would love to have JD-XA, Kronos,

Kurzweil PC4 and a few other great sounding in performance as long if it gives me a challenge musically tonally.

  14. Would like to know if there are any PX560 and MZ-X500 keyboard owners whom have used all

four hexlayers at once at one time and / or what specific usage they apply them.

I've recently also used the PX5S hexlayer for subs sounds for drums and found you can do this kind of modeling

for other sounds as well it expand the tone, isn't easy but doable.  I've read up on how they do it in studio's adding

synth sounds like sines and such to accommodate instruments for a wider sound and what not. The waves and

filters and DSP certainly are equipped to that also.

One of the great examples for the PX5S and I think for the PX560 as well is Noir Piano.

There are powerful synth tools inside these keyboards that are under valued and missed I feel while there are

good examples how to use them.  I will list them overtime but for now want to know you're thoughts or process.

  15. I got lost in the jungle of ALL files I've created as backup , I forgot the name of the last file and search for creation date of that file and to my surprise for the all file most of them got the same date 24/01/13 09:00 except a few others all the wav files have also that date well that narrowed my search down back to the start. But then I checked for individual I've saved past week and those have 22/04/2019 with different time stamp.

I've looked if there a date setting then I realized what for. Can I fix the dating somehow on the files created from the PX5S.

  16. I did this somewhere in January this year when trying to make a tone in the style

as Wendy Carlos did on Switch To Bach I got inspired by it versatile composition

using the instrument and felt that the PX5S can be capable also of this.

This is the first time ever I almost did a flawless improvisation this one kinda a tribute.

( I have to apologize in advance  the conversion to mp3 did not do it well )
