  1. Nice set Mike! Appreciated.
  2. Ok, yeah I'm thinking phrases don't save with a stage setting, so I might have to give you the one note phrase I used and you have to save that in the correct position. I think I remember someone saying that. Can anyone else confirm? If you want to check yourself, I've attached the one note phrase. Do you know how to load it into position #125 in your phrases? Then try the stage setting again. OneNote.zip
  3. No worries, let's try and figure it out. Firstly, I didn't do anything to slider 3 in my stage setting. I don't know the song you are trying to replicate. The only purpose of my stage setting was to have pedal 2 be used to control the volume of zone 4 where a 1 note phrase is looping using the arp. Now, I'm thinking there could be something wrong with the stage setting, that it didn't save the phrase properly or something so it works on my px5s but not yours. So I would like to ask someone else to download it and try it to see if it does work for them. For now, I'll just ask you: When you load the stage setting, do you notice that the arpeggio light beside the volume control is flashing? This means the arpeggio holds (continues playing when you release a note). You hold the the sys setting button and then press the arp button to toggle between hold/don't hold. When the light flashes it is in hold mode. I saved the stage setting wit the arp in hold mode and when I load it, it is in hold mode on my 5s but can you clarify that it is in hold mode for you - that the light is flashing?
  4. Don't forget, you need to turn on/off the pedal for the zones you want it to target. Go to: edit>stage setting>zone edit>controller edit>pedal 2 enable Then flip between the 4 zones using the zone+/- buttons and turn them off/on. They are all on by default, I think.
  5. no worries dlm, let me know how you get on. When I was new to this keyboard, I got a lot of help here so I'm very happy to play it forward.
  6. hmm, well let's try and figure out what the confusion is. When you load my stage setting. First thing to do just tap one note anywhere on the board. This triggers the arpeggio on zone four to start but it's actually muted. Then to bring the volume up on zone 4 where one note is just looping, just tap and release pedal 2. It is set to "toggle" so it acts like a on/off switch - tap once for ON, tap again for OFF. A normal sustain pedal is set to "momentary". You find this option in stage setting>common edit>pedal 2 edit. Tapping pedal 2 once will raise the volume for zone 4, tapping it again will decrease the volume. Does that make sense?
  7. Nice Brad, pretty sure you uploaded a demo of that guitar a while back in some thread and I was awe-struck. Thanks in advance for the upload.
  8. ok, that seems to have worked. Thanks Brad. Heaven.zip
  9. Without going into details, you could record a phrase which is just your one note, and set it to loop as long as it doesn't have an attack, then load that phrase into your arpeggiator for zone 4, turn off the arpeggiator for the other zones. You could then set pedal 2 to turn the volume up/down for zone 4. Alternatively, you could record that one note for how long as you want it to be played to the usb key and use pedal 2 to start/stop playback. Might be other ways too, I'm a novice so maybe someone with more knowledge will chime in but if you want to attempt the first way, Mike has some videos on the offical youtube casio channel which goes over recording phrases and using the arpeggiator to play phrases. I decided to make you a stage setting as a demo where I did the first suggestion. A one note phrase is looped and played back using the arpeggiator in zone four. You need to press one key on the piano to trigger the arpeggiator to begin and then pedal 2 will bring the volume/up down. You can change the on/off rate for pedal 2 to change the attack/release for this one note. I tried to attach it here but I got the message: Error You aren't permitted to upload this kind of file Anyone know if it is possible to attach a stage setting here?
  10. I count five demos in the video. Are two of them the same, just one tweaked with the controls a little?
  11. hows he making the sound sustain on the 5s? Is he using the arpeggiator?
  12. Billy Taylor was a legend and it is one of my favourite songs. You played it expertly and originally. You are very talented. I hope to play it as well one day.
  13. I remember Mike nearly broke into "Jump" in one his videos when demo-ing 7-7 but quickly stopped himself
  14. Are the piano sounds and action the same on every model? For example is stage setting 0-0 on the px-5s the default piano sound on all the other models? Is the action and feel of the keys the same too? Did you notice if any of them have a quieter action? like if you played them with the volume down, do they all make the same noise being pressed and released?
  15. Wow, you've been busy. I don't have an XW but nice work. I'll give them a listen later.
  16. I'd also like to add to that if you have equalizer controls set to the knobs (as they in the default 0-0 stage setting), then turning them off for a zone/zones makes no difference. You cannot turn them off. They will still alter all four zones as they are a global setting. If you fear you will adjust them by accident, set something else to the knobs instead and then turn the knobs off for all the zones or just zone 1 where your piano tone is. Personally I prefer the 7-0 stage setting for a piano sound, not sure why.
  17. All I have to say is, you are very talented and dedicated Mike. They sound fantastic and I can't wait to see how you created these stage settings. It's inspiring to think the board has all these amazing sound possibilities waiting for someone to bring out.
  18. very cool. How did you do it? Are the drums a phrase, did you program it because it sounds great. how many other zones did you use? Is the bass a phrase too or are you playing it live? Sounds like you've got a few different tones going on and maybe a bit of velocity switching? I can maybe hear an organ come it for a little at about 30 seconds.
  19. to change the volume on each of the hex layers, go to edit>tone>layer edit>amp>volume. Then flip between the layers using the zone+ and - buttons. You'll see the the hex layer you are currently on in the top right. if you zone+/- all the way to the left, you will see 'all' which allows you to adjust the volume of all the layers in sync. There are default stage settings which have the hex layer volumes mapped to the sliders. Select 1:7 or 2:7 and probably more. Then you could use of these stage settings as a template to create your own or you can map the sliders to the hex layer volumes yourself.
  20. Have you read the the 2nd advanced manual you can download online? It's goes into more detail http://sc3900.wix.com/px-5s#!manuals/c23h4 Manuals are always hard to read but they are also difficult to write especially for things like this keyboard, not least because of the paper format which manufacturers must feel forced to include. I can see a lot of work went into them. I guess they have protocols where they can't repeat themselves and have to keep referring you back to the place where they explained a common function. This can be disorientating. I had trouble getting to grips with the board at the start too but the videos really are a great help. It's much easier and quicker to demonstrate how to work something then write how to do it, and once you are familiar with some basic features of the board, it's easier to go back into the manuals and figure out what they are saying. I think you appreciate them more then. Ideally as we move into the future, manufacturers should hopefully spend their time writing online wikipedia style manuals where pages can be inter linked with keywords and it can include full colour photos and be as big as you like and then users can add detail too, or videos etc. In fact users here might one day start such a wikipedia.
