  1. Choppin, thanks! I must have changed some of the midi settings under System Edit when I was wildly pressing buttons trying to get my PC3 and Px5 sync'd up. Working fine now.
  2. Cable is fine. Computer recognizes device (casio USB-Midi), says "device is working properly". When I open Digital Editor, I get the "Disconnected" in the title bar of the Data Editor Window. If I click the "refresh" icon, I get a Windows pop-up: "communication error". I've tried this on two different computers. Same results. I have the Px-5 connected to another keyboard via midi. I've disconnected the midi cable. Tried it both ways- still get the "disconnected message". I'm stumped. Any ideas?
  3. haven't had a chance to check it out further. I'll post when I have an update
  4. When I'm using the keyboards together, I'm using setups on the PC3 to control everything that's played on either keyboard, which includes sounds internal to each keyboard as well as through the laptop. So I guess the PC3 is being used as the master keyboard
  5. I'm also not sure why my posting was posted twice. How do I delete one of them?
  6. Any thoughts about why the data editor would not be recognizing the PX-5? the keyboard is connected to the computer via USB and the computer recognizes it. When I turned the data editor on, it says "not connected". I I do have the PX-5 connected to another keyboard via a midi cable, but I can't see why this would affect the data editor recognizing the Px-5.
  7. For the Kurz PC3 setup zone, the following settings: Destination: MidiChannel: 15Midi Bank: 112MidiProg: whatever the stage setting is. For example, if I want to call up setting 2-9, I would enter 29.For the Px-5: System Settings-- Midi-- Basic Channel 15 (recall that I changed this because using MIDI channel 1 also caused the PX5 stage setting to also go to the PC3 keyboard).Cables: PC3 midi out TO Px5 Midi In For running laptop VSTi's on the PX-5 and PC3, a USB cable is run between USB out on the PX5 and the laptop; same for the PC3. For the Px-5 stage to act as a midi controller (via USB) for the laptop, you will need to select a stage setting and modify it: Under Stage Set-- Midi Edit: turn "generator out" to off (turns off Px-5 internal sounds for that zone); "midi out" to off; and "USB out" to on. Select Prog & Bank Edit and fill in bank, MSB information specific to the VSTi you are connecting to.There are also a couple of additional settings on the PC3 zone which have to be set to make sure this works correctly. If anyone else has a PC3 and is trying to do this, private message me.The really cool thing about this whole procedure is that now I can create a setup on the PC3 for a particular song and by just selecting that setup on the PC3, I can have my sounds (internal or external to both boards) ready to go for both keyboards. Because I often used 2 keyboards on a song, this can be a real time saver when we're trying to move quickly to the next song
  8. LOL..right now it's mostly a blur in my late night memory. I'll review my settings tonight and post some info.
  9. Basic channel worked... and after hours of floundering around, I was able get all settings correct to use the PC3 to call up PX5 internal Stage Settings, as well as external VSTis to the PX5 keyboard output.
  10. I'm using midi settings on a Kurzweil PC3 to control changes on the Px5 (the keyboards are connected midi out [PC3] to Midi in [Px5]). All seems to be working OK, except that because the default midi channel for both instruments is 1, when I call up a Stage Setting for the Px5 keyboard, it channels the same sound to the PC3 keyboard. My question is- can I stop this from happening by changing the default midi channel for the Px5 to a number other than 1? If so, would I change Device ID or Basic Channel under System Setting--MIDI to accomplish this?
  11. my repair person received the parts two days ago- two months after they were ordered from Casio.
  12. You're interpretation of my setup is correct. Let's say the VSTi is an EP which has several banks and within each bank are several program numbers. The VSTi is set to transmit on midi channel 14 and the particular VSTi setting I want to play on the PX5 is Program 3 in Bank 1 of the VSTi. So to make that happen, I would need to set the Destination for the PC3 zone to "midi"- that would send the signal to the PX5, then set the PC3 zone channel to 14, bank to 1 and program to 3. So for the PX5 to receive and recognize that information correctly, what do I do? Do I need to set up a stage setting in a particular way?
  13. Choppin- so far so good. I've connected Midi Out from the PC3 to Midi In for the Px5. I'm able to create new zones in PC3 setups to call up specific Stage Setups on the Px5. Next I'd like to be able to use zone settings on the PC3 to channel a VSTi from my laptop to a Px5 stage setting. Let's say I have the VSTi set for Channel 14 and I want to call up Program 1 of that particular VSTi. How do I do this? Perhaps you've already explained it in your previous posts, but it's not clear to me what I need to do. With my current setup, I do not have the Px5 connected to the laptop; only the PC3 is connected to the laptop via USB.
  14. Compliments the onboard Px sounds nicely. I was just fiddling around with "Angela" (Bob James) and it's a perfect sound for that song.
  15. I see that some postings are marked as answered. How do I do this for my postings?
  16. It is actually a smooth glossy finish.
  17. check out Set List Maker http://www.arlomedia.com/apps/setlistmaker/main/home.html
  18. Choppin, thanks again for your help. I sat down at my keyboards tonight, tried it out, and after a little fiddling with settings on the Kurz, it works!
  19. Thanks. Yes, I found the Midi manual to be VERY cryptic! "Px5 Midi for Dummies" needed!
  20. Choppin, is this information about MSB and LSB settings in the manual?
  21. Yes, it does help, but I'm getting myself confused. I've set up the PC3 and Px5 and connected them via PC3 midi out, and Px5 midi in. I created a Setup on the Pc3 which has 2 zones. Zone 1 is Local, which captures and outputs an internal sound on the PC3. For Zone 2, Midi is the destination. When I set Zone 2 to Channel 1, I can cycle through the PX5's GM tones by changing the Midi Program number for Zone 2. Using the Channel, MidiBank, and MidiProgram options in Zone 2, is there a way to tell the select a particular Stage setup on the Px5? What settings need to manipulated in the Px5 to "sync" things up? My goal here is to reduce the amount of time it takes to "dial in" to the correct settings on both keyboards during live performances when I'm using both keyboards on a particular song.
  22. I know that not everyone is familiar with Kurzweil keyboards, but let me know in general if what I'm saying here makes sense and sounds feasible with the Px5. I've posted this to a Kurweil user group as well. I've stated I've been using the Px3, which is correct, but as of about a week ago, I have a Px5, so my questions are about the Kurzweil PC3 and Privia Px5 combination: Forgive me if this has been covered in other posts.... I've been using my PC3 and Casio Px3 as midi controllers for a while now, with each keyboard connected to my computer (and VST host) viatheir own separate USB-midi outputs. Now I'm realizing that it's probably possible to change my setup so that just the PC3 is connected to the computer, and that the PC3 and Casio are connected to each other by midi out (PC3) to midi in (Px3). Once this is done, is it then possible to create a setup with two zones, one of which uses the PC3 keyboard to control an internal program, or a VST on my computer (destination Midi-USB), and another zone, with the destination of Midi, which allows me to use the PC3 to determine what sounds come through the Casio? Furthermore, can the zone sending a message to the Casio also be set up so that the sound produced on the Casio originates from a PC3 program, a VST on the laptop, or a patch which is internal to the Casio? Thanks, and any references you could provide on this subject (within or outside of Casio Forums) on this subject would be greatly appreciated!
  23. One thing I've discovered is that subtle differences between VST's and onboard sounds often are washed away in live performances. It's one thing to sit and listen in my living room, wearing headphones, to VST versus onboard; it's often an entirely different thing in a live performance where the keyboard is only one of several instruments playing simultaneously- at least that's what I've found in the context of my classic rock band. By the way, thanks for your intro vides on the Px5, PianoManChuck. They've really helped me get to know my new Px5.
