  1. Thanks Jockeyman123 When I said zone2 ,yes I meant performance mode part 2 (or channel 2). By using external gear I can route a zone on performance zone to drive back channels 5,6,7 and make a super fat sound, realtime. With the right settings I play one note and boom, XW gives me 7 unique sounds... That is the main reason I want to drive midi back to xw by using only a cable. I wish I could mention this from the beginning to avoid misunderstandings, I wanted to post it as a tip&trick in a different thread. At least I learned that no midi feedback occurs, and cannot do the trick internally and realtime. A mod can delete this thread if it's confusing and misleading. I will seek info for the electronic part on dedicated hardware forums and if there is no problem for the XW midi chipset ,I'll make a guide. Thanks for your patience!
  2. Hi Garry and farewell. You got frustrated with no reason. You were wrong on the feedback loop thing and I was trying to explain that there is no such thing (unless changing the xw settings) Also I haven't (yet) heard anything useful from you Gary in this thread. You stated something wrong at the begging and later on ,one guess that things could be wrong. So I honestly don't want to continue talking about the specific subject. BUT I'd like to know ,and if anyone could help how can I drive ,let's give an example : zone 2 (midi channel 2 ) to part 6 (midi channel 6) internally... I know sequencer can drive to different channel ,but I can't do it on the first 4 zones. Well ,I can change the out channel but I don't hear any sound from channel 6.... Hope it's clear
  3. My question still regards to plugging a standard MIDI cable straight from IN to OUT. I don't understand why I confused you and where exactly. Maybe my poor English don't help me, sorry. As I mentioned earlier ,by using a usb midi interface (NOT xw usb port) and connected to physical midi ports I just doubled checked that xw g1 does not enable "midi thru" ,unless you change the settings in xw menu. Meaning that I will not cause midi feedback. The only reason I used the usb midi interface (NOT xw usb port) was for monitoring the traffic. I still fear that maybe I don't have knowledge on electronics ,and do something wrong... In the meantime I though you would understand why I want to do this. I will also use channels 5,6,7 but without the need of PC. Just a midi cable
  4. No, I used a usb midi interface and monitor the data on XW physical midi in outs. You can set usb out to transmit what's coming from physical Midi In port. Nope , XW can transmit whatever you want at the same time (it's very flexible , read page 82 for midi settings in the pdf manual) On page 77 it states you can select Midi or Usb for output , but it doesn't mean you can't select both BTW, I send an email to casio support about the chipset capability. I think I am over-concerned ,it should not be a problem for the electronic part , but since I don't know the design part , I don't want to damage my first new synth
  5. Nope, there is no midi echo . I used a usb to midi interface , send some midi notes to input and used MidiOX app to monitor the output. NO FEEDBACK. Also played some notes on the keyboard. Only triggered once. So no feedback loops... Like Jockeyman123 said overloading with midi data can lock up the instruments. But also a computer ,regardless the cpu engine...
  6. Thank you for taking time to answer the questions,I really appreciate that. When you first mentioned the feedback loop ,I thought you meant voltage. The XW will not pass thru ,unless it's set to do it. So ,no problem. I am mostly concerned on the hardware design. Casio people would know better...if no official answer drops here I the forum,I'll try emailing to tech support. Thanks again
  7. Hi, I need an official clarification. I had an idea (simple one and will post it in separate thread) ,but i need to connect with one midi cable the out midi port to input . While reading a manual of a drum machine today ,it stated "Do Not connect the Midi out straight to Midi In ,It will cause malfunction). So, is it possible? Also another basic question is if XW passes thru midi data by default . I can't recall if I messed with the settings and changed the "MIDIOutSel" parameter.
  8. ^^^^This^^^^ So ,don't worry. Nothing wrong can happen
  9. One guess is you have to start everything in performance mode and then tweak anything on sequencer/mixer. But many times ,when switching to mixer mode my performance patch sounds different ,I will definatelly check it ASAP!
  10. You can use the master slider for octave shifting
  11. I used the editor when I first bought the G1 ,to help me understand the engine. But now I use only the sliders and sometimes the cool ipad app! PS. Sorry for the resurrection of the post ,I didn't noticed the date!
  12. Hello Sadcowsgomoo, You can use the phrase recorder to record your 1-4 channel. You can overdub and built layers like a guitar looper and even record real-time tweaking automations. Unfortunately only one phrase at a time can be played by default ,but you can override the limitation by assigning pre-recorded phrases with the "Multi-function Keys". You can set 2 extra phrases. There you can assign the phrases to playback channels 5/6 or channel 1. (I don't understand either ,why casio did not allowed to select the other parts (2,3,4)). And don't forget the looper
  13. Hi, I noticed that if I sample a wave I can't play it correctly on higher octaves. If I set the pitch to 24 semitones doesn't help much since the wave plays at the same pitch after reaching the end of a small range. I know I can sample the wave on higher pitch but what puzzles me is that using the pitch wheel the sample can be pitched further. Is there a workaround or should I sample at first ,on higher notes pitch? PS. Sorry for my English (I hope it makes sense!)
  14. Just a FS: On local-off mode G1 sliders could at least send midi sysex (on demand). Not useful for controlling other synths directly ,but very useful when using a PC ,since there are some nice sysex to midiCC apps. I am sure G1 can do this and transmitting sysex real-time is disabled for overloading reasons, but when G1 is on local-of mode with no internal sounds playing it shouldn't be a problem. EDIT/UPDATE: There is a workaround, read http://www.casiomusicforums.com/index.php?/topic/5030-how-to-use-xw-g1-sliders-knobs-as-software-controllers-in-daw-virtual-instruments/ post #7
  15. Voodoo it is then... Every single peace of gear that had usb port ,haunted me with noise regardless power supply, messing with outlets etc...gear feng shui
  16. Hi, On my current setup I faced usb high pitched whine noise (again)...So if anyone has the same problem I though helping to reduce the noise... The noise comes only when I plug the usb cable to my laptop and has nothing to do with ground hum noise... First I opened the cable (disconnected) and cut the black wire..(if the noise is gone you are done!) I noticed that since all my equipment is connected to the mixer ,I also cut the ground shield. Now the noise is way down (but not eliminated) Note that the usb midi (with both black and ground cut) will not work when you have only your PC and G1 with headphones...so buy another one! Hope it helps PS. If you damage anything ,don't blame me!
  17. THANK you very much I strongly suspect that there is something wrong in the way xwg1 treats the loop points. But since there is a workaround I don't mind at all. Now I have to test 4300 waveforms from http://www.adventurekid.se/akrt/waveforms/adventure-kid-waveforms/ With some batch processing I'll upload them as a gift for this forum...
  18. Yes it's clicking. When creating and editing the loop point I tweak the loop point to avoid clicks...then I save the tone and everything sounds ok.(EDIT: Even if I choose a proper loop point to avoid clicks ,as soon as I save the tone by pressing "write" loop point is moved...) BUT if I switch to another tone and recall the custom tone I made then the sound clicks. If I go on edit point mode or launch the editor and receive the tone I made, then the tone sounds natural again. Anyway I'll try contacting Casio...I attatched the tone if anyone is wiling to test it... MOOG____.zip
  19. I imported a wave from my PC to user wave u200.the waveform was from an ipad app ,animoog, and after tweaking on the synth the right loop point I saved the tone... The problem is that every time I select the tone the loop point is not what I made. To my surprise if I dive to the menu and go to the point edit ,the sound automatically is fixed without having to edit again the loop point. Same magic happens if I load the tone on the synth (which doesn't play right by default) ,open the editor and select "receive" from g1... Can anyone confirm this?BTW I am on latest firmware... I can upload the patch( nothing special, just for testing the g1 abilities) .
  20. Thanks for helping me, By the way I found that sd card is much faster than the usb2 connection with the editor...I may have another look and return with more questions
  21. Hi, I have borrowed a xw g1 for test drive and before buying I'd like to help me out a bit. Is it possible to load samples on g1 covering multiple or even all user wave data from u200 to u209 at once? Let's say a make a multi sampling double bass performance patch that uses more than one user wave data and another saxophone patch...can I switch performance presets and g1 automatically load the corresponding sample data and assign them to the proper user wave preset from the sd card? Hope I don't actually have to manually load one by one user wave and then load the performance patch... PS. What's the maximum length for the user wave?
