  1. So this is for the PX-5S?  Pretty sure those are TS connections, so I'd run the L/Mono out for mono and both L and R for stereo ops to a mixer or dual monitors.  I avoid the bargain cables, but seems to me the mid-cost range is satisfactory for the output.  Myself and many others think that the high cost/high end cables do not offer more than most good quality cables.  MAYBE if you're running the output into a $10,000+ mixer/ sound system recording at 192bit, then yeah, I'd spend the money, but then I'd prob be micing a Boesendorfer grand instead of using a PX.

  2. yes... i had problems running my XWP1 thru the line in... intermittent clipping, or rather what sounded like clip distortion.  Now I run my XW and PX out to a rotary fx box, then to a volume pedal.  There was a thread that discussed impedance, but that was dismissed as a non-factor.

  3. the keys are alright for a budget synth, but I also use the PX-5S which is a spoiler, cause those keys sounds are the best.  If u really still want a Soundcloud or You Tube of some sounds, I can do it, but I'm a rather beginner player.  I thought Mike had a vid of some of those sounds on an XW clinic?

  4. i've been a Reaper user for years.  i also use Sonar X3 and Reason, and have owned Cubase and Sony Acid Pro.  None of them are "easy" until you get used to using them and read the manual which is quite extensive, but they are all "powerful".  Given the fact that Reaper is only $60, it is a bargain.

  5. no special advice here, other than asking if u backed up the data to your computer using the data editor so you can load up your saved data?  The XW boots up quickly, so I guess I'm going to shut it down if not in use for a while.  Good to know... pls let us know if you recovered your info after an initialize and if there was an issue we haven't addressed.

  6. +1 for Galileo... run the usb into the iPad... i run the iPad out to a mixer... haven't tried running the iPad out thru the PX in.  You can really tweak the organs to something real nice... and I use a Boss rt-20 leslie sim box to really bring out a nice rotating B3 or 4.

IDK about strings... they are somewhat lacking, i agree, if used solo, but sound OK in the band.

  7. in perf mode... down arrow, EDIT, Enter Zone parameter, Zone On, down to Tone, use the PCM tone group selection to get a group and spin the dial, then exit out... to save it, press the Write btn BEFORE moving to a different perf.  After you do it a few times its not so bad, except if u have to rename the performance.

What I do is load a few layers in one perf, say have a piano on layer 1 with a strings layer on 2, pad on 3, and have 2 & 3 toggled off until i need them when playing, then it's easy to quickly go enable the zone.

  8. too bad more people don't rate the files they like so we can tell how popular they are.  Nobody likes to waste their time uploading a poor SS, but I don't want to comment on a poor one cause someone put in some work to build and load it on the site, and someone may find it useful.  honestly, after working with most of the SS uploaded to the site, I only have just over a dozen that i keep for my primary library.

  9. don't think its the cheapest... i have the B-ringer FCV 100.  Costs about half the Boss but it's not a real tight unit... bump the I/O cables and they bark at you.  If the Boss is a quality unit I'd spend my money on that... maybe I'll get one.

  10. I'm gonna upload them all and mess with them this week.  maybe mess with a way to add the next note up, since many use the diatonic scale, and blow a tone into one reed then blend it into the next one up.  then for sucking a tone, maybe drop the chorus/verb to 0????

edit:  one submission was a SOL, and i think the harmonica really needs multiple notes so it needs like the HEX tone that was submitted.  I looked at the HEX tone, used an LFO on layer 1 to give it a slight vibrato tone, then tested some filters on layer 2 that gave it a kind of breathy sound.  Then i realized i really need to have a good recording of some harmonica samples before i get further so i know what i'm really trying to emulate... to be contd.

  11. did u try to edit the tone assigned to that zone?  it's easier using the Data Editor, but go to the name of the tone assigned to the zone and you can edit the DSP there, i believe.

  12. I played with it some today and inquiring minds want to know...

I noticed when I save a performance that has been edited, it saves to the computer data file AND the XW?  If so, why does the ! still show on the XW after saving?  Must I save it again on the XW using Write...Enter...Yes?

So you have 3 sources of data for, say, a performance.  You have the primary XW memory file, which you can edit using the DE... you have an SD card, which must have data from the XW or the computer saved to it in the MUSICDAT folder... and you have the computer data files, like in C:\My Documents\CASIO\EMI\DataEditorP1\UserData.  If you change a performance, you need to sync all 3 sources if that's how you have them backed up?

What does sync really do?  The green S box for each zone?

I noticed If you select a perf and edit the DSP parameters, and saved the performance, the new DSP parameters were saved.  Did this save the DSP for ONLY this performance?  It did not affect ALL tones using this particular DSP type did it?   Must it be saved as a new DSP to be used or is this a feature so it can be selected for other tones?

  13. so when u select 'Transfer' and 'Performance' from the dropdown menu, it shows no user performances?  You do have a perf in the U:0-0 slot of the XW? and does the XW-P1 symbol show up above the right pane?

In your Preferences of the DE, do you have auto search selected and CASIO USB-MIDI selected for midi in and out?  And have a good data folder on your computer?
