  1. I got mine in the mail today! Thanks Mike!
  2. i believe you may need an .ins file for the DAW. You can do most anything in the DAW for midi files, but the ins file allows you to assign the synth patches in the DAW as output. Of course, you can always use the DAW to record your midi and edit it and use a softsynth to play it back.
  3. i've used a kc-550 and a combo of Behringer 315D/Peavey 118D. I'd like to hear some QSCs, EVs, or Yamaha DSRs. Just out of my budget. I heard a guy playing an acoustic and singing with an L1 system. I did not like the sound, but I don't know if he knew what he was doing... it was too loud for the venue, VERY bass-y... if he EQ'd the output a bit, it may have been fine. You ever go to those shows where you just wanna get up on stage and tell the guy "let me set this up for you?"
  4. so many models... I can't recall the exact models but the 1000W QSC, EV, and Yamaha 12" speakers and a matching sub seems to be the best fit for many keyboarders I've seen in many forums.
  5. yes, the DSP line was ON for zone 2. Once I moved the tone with the DSP for zone 2 to zone 1, the issue was solved... and thank you alenk for agreeing that the manual is not clear in the description of using DSP. I read this stuff five times before asking questions cause I don't want to waste time, and I try to keep up with all of the forum posts to learn about programming, but I'm sure i've missed many that may be pertinent. Does this explain all there is with using DSP on the XW? no Does the manual explain it in detail? no Does the forum help in understanding DSP? yes, but in little bits at a time.
  6. OK then, can someone explain how I can add a tone in Zone 2, edit the DSP to a dist tone 1, then save the perf keeping the volumes where I set them? I looked in the book and there's not much on the DSP line, but I noticed to use a DSP you need to turn the DSP line on. How this changes the volumes on the two zones I'd love to know for future reference. Do I need to edit the tone in zone 2 as a new tone after adjusting the DSP the way I want, then add this new tone to zone 2 in a perf without DSP line enabled???
  7. I noticed it first with v 1.10 and after loading some patches with the data editor. I later updated to v 1.11 (using Win 7) and thought it was no longer a problem but later confirmed the volumes remained the same. Maybe I should try to uninstall the patches I loaded. Is there any known malware that affects any functions on the XW? I just went downstairs to verify this again. Both zones playing at volume 127. Edit zone 2. Lower volume to 63. Volume LEDs show zone 2 lowering to half way down OK. Write the performance... and both zones play at 127. Go back into edit of zone 2, and it shows 127.
  8. Well, it's not fixed. The other day, I was trying to build a new performance, and I put a tone in the first zone, then added a different tone in the second zone. I tried to adjust the first zone to a volume of 40 and the second one to 127. I saved the performance and noticed on playback the volume on both were equal. I went back and tried adjusting the first one to 127 and the second to 40, saved it, and the same thing... both volumes went to 40. Am I missing something basic?
  9. OK, backed up the XP before I do a firmware update, and messing with a couple of performances. Odd thing... When I tried to adjust the volume of track 2, I noticed the volume level indicator of track one followed it as I adjusted it??? then I went to a different perf, and tried to adjust the volume of track 2... it seemed to adjust independent of track 1, but when I saved it, the volume reverted to the same as track 1. Did I do something to affect these volume adjustments? Edit: Apparently using a computer with Win 8.1 for updating firmware or using the data editor causes issues. I guess they are reviewing and updating software for Win 8.1. After I updated to the 1.11 firmware on my Win 7 machine, things worked fine.
  10. Q1. Why on many stage settings does the tone show !HEX U:50 If you change the tone, you can't return to the same tone. Is this a temp holder for the tone? Q2. I saved an ALL Data file under a different name on my USB, but if I try to load an all data file, only the default ALLDATA shows up in the window as an option to select. On the computer they both show up in the musicdat dir. How do I access the NEWDATA file? Q3. Is there a way to save an arp layer with other layers that have the arp off? I only see the arp option in the stage setting which affects all tones. For instance, trying to set a new UN-arpped tone region in Mike's On The Run setting. thanks...lovin the PX and working on the learning curve.
  11. I'm trying to get the "OWWW" sound added to the polysynth like the intro to the song "Let's Go' by the Cars. I messed with the LFO but that didn't get me what I wanted. I also thought maybe a filter on a hex layer that decreases on aftertouch, but couldn't figure out how to do that. There are other sounds I'd like to add this feature to if I could figure it out. Any help? I also could program this in the XW-P1 if that would be easier to do. Pls give details as I'm not an experienced sound builder, and it would help others learn sound dev... and since I'm thinking about it, any ideas to get the dubstep bass sounds like in Massive or Reason? I know they use vowel filters, etc. that aren't in the Casio hardware/software.
  12. jaspeter, I've been struggling with setting up a live set since I've only had my PX for a couple of weeks now and need to rework tones on two boards. Are you saying that you have a factory ALL DATA file on a USB drive and the LIVE SET ALL DATA file with your optimized stages/tones? That is what I'm considering. I'm also curious about your comment "assuming you don't have an iPad." I use an iPad with Songbook and can save song sets. Is there a way to switch stages via the iPad?
  13. Since I'm trying to organize a live sound set, I need to replace some stages that aren't high on my list of preferences. I know that some stages may sound similar to others but have some stage programming features that are unique, for instance use the sliders or knobs for a special function. So as I set up my rock-related live set, I don't want to dump a stage that I may want later, altho they are saved on the computer. So which stages have you removed to replace with one of your custom stages?
  14. i like it but is the key 'click' common to the original?
  15. While it is good for future design and marketing to get input on suggested improvements, I am tired of hearing the 'new age, I want it all now' people complain about "why don't you do this on the next version" or "I'd buy it if it did this"... I think it's an awesome product and of course, we can't put ALL features in one machine... The hardware and software group must have spent many hours and R&D to come up with this, so you can't make a new "wonderboard" with the existing production. You can't please everyone. Casio has come a long way and Mike has done wonders supporting the owners, especially compared to all other brands. Don't come out with anything else spectacular in the near future cause I can't afford it all.
  16. then if I set the sliders for volume control, I can't quickly change the chorus or reverb for instance, to adjust for different room acoustics. so much control but still struggling with setting up a live setup.
  17. Get an iPad and the Songbook app for piano tab and lyrics views. I know there's good apps for sheet music on the iPad but not familiar with them.
  18. the sliders sound good but if i change from bank 0-0 with slider 3 up to bank 0-1 on the fly, i may need to change the sliders also... it's an option but it's easy just to press one button. our band mostly practices, playing most any rock, blues, etc we come up with at the moment... if we play out we have about 30 songs ready to go. I use an iPad with Songbook loaded so the songs show my keys setup detail along with the music. I need to go thru all 100-ish songs and rework the setup notes so when i setup the presets, i don't want them to change.
  19. that's right PianoManChuck, so his question could use more detail about what he really wants... and as a new PX user, THANK YOU for making these excellent videos!
  20. I went thru the stages and flagged many that are very similar, so I may overwrite them. Does anyone play live and have any special organization for the stages that work? I'm guessing the pianos in the bank X-0 position, ep's in bank X-1, etc makes sense, but it's a different way to setup sounds from what I'm used to, and I'm concerned about pressing 3 buttons to go from a piano to an organ quickly, for instance. My XP has on bank one: 3 pianos, 4 organs, 3 synths, so I can play several songs on this one bank requiring only one key press to switch sounds. For other sound sets, I can switch to bank 2, so again, I'm only hitting one button on the fly to change sounds if needed. Maybe this is a non-issue, but I was just wondering about how others set up for live play?
  21. if i can ask a question within this for Scott... is the input TRS? (lazy, i'll look it up later) and do you have volume control issues playing live between the two boards without a separate volume pedal for each board??
  22. if u want to control volume with a pedal, why not just get a mono or stereo volume pedal and send the output thru the pedal??
  23. I just used a silver permanent marker and put a dot on the knob.
  24. I would have bought the 73 key version with some of the other ideas, but since I just bought the PX-5, I'm not spending any more on keys for a while.
  25. I've had an XWP1 for maybe a year... I just got the PX5S so I've been comparing them today... I have the PX on the lower rack and the XW on the upper. If you're using some hex sounds on both boards it is awesome. Since I just got the PX, I haven't messed with the organs in depth... in ways they sound better but the control and rotary is better in many ways on the XW, and of course many organ players do not like a hammer weighted action.
