  1. On many of the keyboard forums, experienced players talk about the excellent feel and sounds.
  2. I uploaded a couple I've worked on for a while... I use these for many 60's songs... Steppenwolf, Spencer Davis Group, ELP. If the link don't work, it is in the post about new sounds. http://www.casiomusicforums.com/index.php?app=core&module=attach&section=attach&attach_id=62
  3. Sooooo... how about other recommended pedals? Sometimes I hook up my FC-5 and the sustain is on... or it triggers a note hold so the last note played is on. If the polarities are opposite, does this mean that I can't use the same pedal for the Casio and Roland? Is the Casio SP-3R OK to use? Thinking of ordering one.
  4. Thanks Mike... I just get lazy sometimes and look for the easy answer instead of hauling the XP from the practice room downstairs and hooking it up and actually reading the Data Editor manual.
  5. Here's 2 performances... my 60's distorted organs I use for many of my older stuff. Hope the distortion fx works with it. I can't remember if my Distortion DSP is used for this, but if it doesn't sound great, let me know and I'll upload the zip file again with it included. 60s Distorted Organs.zip
  6. I'd like to see posts from people who use other devices to trigger performances or tones on the XW. I want to trigger it from my iPad or Korg KP3.
  7. I thought I'd be able to do this in the data editor or to save the file thru the computer? Need a few hints on getting my midi files as phrases into the XW? I did this on my Juno-G... Edit... OK learning curve...Figured out how to play the mid file... SETTING + WRITE , SMF [ENT] , scroll thru files and play using the START/STOP.Only problem is you can't edit the mid for tempo or octave, and the tone must be selected beforehand, and it didn't sound like it had any effects? To load data from the card, they must be the Z** extension... a mid file can be loaded into a step sequencer chain, but must be a .zph extension for a phrase. Later... Success! Hooked up the Computer-Instrument USB. Loaded the CASIO Data Editor up. You have to put the mid files in the User Data Folder Path in Preferences. Then they show up in the Transfer...Phrase selection. You then drag them over to a User preset. Select the performance or tone where you want to assign the phrase. Hold down the PHRASE SEQ Key Play Select button and select your User preset. Be sure to then set the proper tempo and then SAVE the Performance if you want that phrase as the default file when u press the PHRASE SEQ Play/Stop. Hope this helps someone. My next challenge: I'd like to see posts from people who use other devices to trigger performances or tones on the XW. I want to trigger it from my iPad or Korg KP3.
  8. I want to rearrange my performance banks so I can group them to switch quicker when playing live. Any way to move a performance to a different preset other than re-create the whole thing? I know it's only one extra button push but it's easier mentally grouping as well.
  9. for dummies...how do I save a performance to a file to transfer to this site? When I select performance in package mode, nothing shows up... and if I transfer a package to the synth, will it add to the user data... I don't want it to overwrite my stuff. HOW TO DO IT... Hook up the Computer-Instrument USB. Load the CASIO Data Editor up. You will put the files in your User Data Folder Path in Preferences. You do this by selecting them in the TRANSFER mode from the XW-P1 and dragging those User Presets on the right to the PC User Data Files column on the left. They are now on your computer.
  10. I'd like to understand something ... I've been trying to use a PCM piano tone and add zones to thicken it up. I load a Classic piano P02 in the first zone, and add the P02 in the 2d and 3rd zones. If I now try to change the dsp fx on the first zone, it changes it for all zones. Is it just the DSP that you cannot cannot change without affecting the other zones? I noticed that it does not affect the setting in the tone settings, except it did change the DSP fx if you enable it. So if I want to layer for instance three P02's, each with a different DSP fx, do I have to save each P02 as a User tone and use those in Zone 2 and 3? I prob missed something in reading about it. Does the DSP only affect the First Zone and other zones use the same? I've had similar issues layering organ tones, hoping to keep the rotary effect with different organ preset zones.
  11. Do you have the hex tone in the top position? You should be able to select the detune for the hex tone on Knob 2...?? manual pg33
  12. yes, thank you Mike... not too many reps out there watching the forums and working with the folks in the trenches like you.
  13. I think I messed with a DSP on a performance to get a nice distorted sound like an amped Deep Purple or Steppenwolf that I'm using. PM me if you still are looking for it and I'll look on my synth. One thing I found is that tweaking settings can sound quite different depending on the type of speaker/amplification you use.
  14. for Mike Martin... love your synth blog on Wordpress and look forward to more short videos. I'd love to see you continue the Step Sequencer series by showing how to build a series of patterns (using the pattern keys) for a simple song, maybe starting out with a basic drum beat, then adding a bass, drum lead-in, chord and lead pattern build. thanks
