  1. Wow Aron!! I thought you were a rational, level-headed intelligent guy. You certainly have helped a lot in this thread but no one has forced you to participate. Mr Choppin may have his opinions, (which I don't understand)---I only know what my personal audio experience has been. If you don't want to write anymore, by all means, don't. But getting angry about it serves no purpose. Your input, all along, has been very positive (at least for me) and I respect your musical prowess--no need to get P.O'd--If you can instruct me how, I'd love to post the sound of my keyboard for you--but I'm clueless on how to do this (If you'd like me to)--otherwise, be well and thanks for your input.
  2. No aron -Mr Choppin is correct....I don't know anything about the technical aspect of this situation but I did try the px on a set of stereo studio monitors (M-audio Bx-5s) and the pianos still sound the same. There is definitely a change from what I hear live through my speakers (whether it be the Kc or the M-audio) and a transmission from a USB over the internet. I would love to hook up my px to my computer speakers, but they are not separate from the monitor. The transmission to my computer from you and BRADMZ definitelty sounds different--Like i said, I don't know how this works but it's definitely the case. I wish you lived closer to me so I could demonstrate this to you--but, alas, geography will not allow this. I would love to hear the sound I hear from your Dolce and Brad's 'noodling" but I can't. As previously stated, I LOVE everything else about this board but the pianos. I will continue my search/investigation and keep you updated. Very interesting....
  3. BradMZ--Good idea but my computer does not have separate speakers that can hook up to my px. I've got a feeling that there is really nothing you can do--the samples are what they--for me. it's a shame, because I've really mastered moist of the keyboard and I really love everything about it--I've compared it to the kurzweil artis se, the korg kross and krome, the roland rm 800 and the yamaha moxf8 and besides (IMO) the piano sounds being better on those other boards, the functionality and the other tones on the px-5 (not to mention the price) doesn't come close--and,as already stated, I have a large sample size to prove it. I do wish i could find a way to modify the pianos to my liking (to be something like the grand on the yamaha boards) but it looks like that's not to be. I really do appreciate all of your help and also that of the forum community (another awesome benefit of owning a casio)..... Rock on!!
  4. Hi BRADMZ--I checked out your settings for band-grand-demo and it looks like slider 1-3 have no assignment and the knobs are set at flat eq--is this correct?
  5. Aron--No. First of all, your playing is wonderful....and the piano tone, through my computer, is perfect. As I said to BradMZ, if my keyboard sounded like it sounds through my computer, I wouldn't say another word!!
  6. Also BradMZ--what do you have your knobs and sliders set at?
  7. Hi BradMZ--I like your noodling--The way your keyboard comes out of my computer is beautiful--You wouldn't hear another peep from me if I could get my keyboard to sound like that to me. What kind of amp are you playing through? Also, when your recording comes over the airwaves, the signal gets compressed and changed a bit--and it sounds better than live over my speakers--but I must say, I've been having a ball with my 5x-s lately and will keep looking for the tweak that will make my keys sound like what I just heardovewr my computer from you! Thanks....
  8. Aron--I did try the Qsc 10s and the Ev10s and one other--(but only in mono)--I was going to try the space stattion but I read some reviews that they werent powerful enough--still may take a shot...Ill let you know....
  9. Hi Aron--What kind of amplifier do you recommend? I can easily trash the KC! I tried PA speakers (ie QVC, EV etc.) and really didn't like them....What say thee?
  10. Aron--I'd say anything from about G above middle C to about ther whole next octave falls into my "ear hurting"category. Unfortunately, this is where one does a lot of playing. Going to the music store today to test out some other boards.....
  11. BradMZ-- You're right on--the piano you posted comes closest to the px! I guess its just a matter of taste.....
  12. Yep-Ive done that--I will say the clangiest note on the whole board is the C above middle C---I can pick that one out in the middle of any song--Oh well, I guess I've been gifted/cursed with very picky ears!!
  13. continued--Dave has been able to write some great stage settings, that I feel are better than the factory ones, and they are available through him for a nominal fee (worth checking out). Thanks for all of your input over the past months. It's been an adventure....but I'm always looking for new projects. I'll keep you informed of anything I find out. Peace.
  14. Hey Aron--Yes I had the good fortune of meeting with Dave. What a genius--he knows the ins and outs of sampling, layering, texture--you name it. The bottom line is as everyone has said. Casio chose their samples from a particular piano (that they are not disclosing), which can be tweaked here and there but really can't be changed. All of the downloads have slight variations but the basic sample remains the same.......Much to "my" dismay, because I love the keyboard, its functionality and all of the other tones, but "I" don't think they did a very good job with the pianos--I've been to the music store and have played the yamaha MOFX8, the Kross Krome and the Kurzweil Forte--all of which have big, rich pianos (among other things). I guess if I want a different piano tone ), a dog, I'll have to either get used to the "cat" I have or buy a dog. One great thing is that genius Dave has been able to write t\s
  15. hi aron-- this has been a very interesting study. I was able reach Dave, thanks to you, and am meeting him at his house to further investigate the sound i am looking for-- he is big into casio and kurzweil. Turns out he lives 20 minutes from me. Thanks so much for everything. I may have to purchase a new keyboard, although, besides the piano samples, i love the px. To be continued......
  16. Aron--the filter cut off sounded b est around -21 or so but still doesnt light my fire. Working with you has been, and continues to be, an enlightening experience. I take it that you now hear the objectionable tone I've been referring to. I will try and contact Dave--does he answer emails?
  17. The way can be found in the factory installed stage settings at 5-0---it is called 'just the way" and is a combination of modern grand tone and a pad.
  18. Hi Aron-- tried your suggestions--they did get rid of the clangy sound but definitely at the expense of the clarity and brightness of the original tone. ie a but muffled. i'd love to get in touch with dave weiser but i lost my contact info. Do you, per chance, know this? thanks
  19. hey aron--I will try those suggestions. I did, in fact, email dave weiser, with no response so far. I will try that again. Thanks again...I'll let you know how your suggestions work--any other ideas will be considered seriously!
  20. Hey aron--It's funny that I'd be the one defending the casio. I do know that one can add downloads--my comentary was simply on what comes in the initial box. I don't really care what they use on broadway, either,--this is simply a matter of taste. Also, I'm not in the need for a virtual tonewheel organ, as I use a hammond sk-1 which is really killer! Thanks, as always, for your input though.
  21. Hi all-- I've been playing with my 5x-s a lot lately and loving it--the splits and layers are easy to do, and the tones (brass, strings, EPS) are excellent. I'm still having trouble liking the piano sounds--so I sent a recording of the Px-5s side by side with a kurzweil artis se 88 to a sweetwater keyboard expert (stage setting 0,0 and 0,1). He was able to hear what I've described as a bell-like, metallic sound, as have I. He said, it sounds like the keyboard is p[icking up the hammer striking the strings too hard, and if I could modify this issue, I could solve the problem. I've tried changing every parameter but nothing seems to affect the tone at all. His description of the issue sounds right on. He said he would try and reach Mike Martin fro me but in the meantime does anyone have a suggestion how to affect this problem.........
  22. Hi Aron and Michaeln2--This is a very interesting display of taste. I bought the kurzweil artis se 88 and after playing with it extensively returned it in favor of the 5x-s. Although I dont particularly like the pianos in the 5x-s (as has been discussed ad nauseum), i found the kurzweil's EPs to be good but extremely limited. Kurweil gives you only 16 EPS-8 rhodes' and 8 wurlies. Although they are accurate and sound good, I find the 5x-s has so much more variety between the air pianos, the digital pianos, the EPS, the crunch pianos etc. I did like the kurweil's pianos better than the 5x-s but the navigation, i found, for spilts, layers, and composing seemed much more difficult and not as user friendly as the 5x-s. Further, I didn't love the strings, brass or harpsichord on the kurweil. If you play the strings and/or brass on the kurweil and hold the note, the result is a mono-tone note as compared to the 5x-s, which gives you a nice vibrato! One of the experts at sweetwater said this is because although kurweil has added many things to their keyboards, they have not updated their samples in a long time--thus, they sound out-dated---and I agree. I just finished a stage setting with horns etc. for the Beatles' "Got to get you into my life" and ther sounds are fantastic, with keyboard sp[lits and layers done with ease. So, I'd say stick with the px-5s and see what it can do.
  23. Aron-- you are awesome for conversing with me. All i'm saying is the Artis only comes with 16 factory preset EPs but the casio comes with triple that amount--and i must say,i think they sound amazing! By the way, are you able to locate a download called 'the way'-- i heard it was great but i cant find it.....
  24. Hello BradMZ-- I've searched all of the dowloads (twice)-- both the forum and the community ones and can't locate "the way" anywhere--Help!!
