  1. I would like to point out that system settings->general->stage set filter, the compressor and eq are set differently on my unit. This makes it very confusing when you are trying to figure why they are in the same "area" of the synth and one is global and the other is not. As for tone storage - just think of them as favorite "stored" settings of tones. When you choose them in the stage setting, the tone "settings" are loaded into the Stage Setting. Think of the Stage setting as a performance/combination/multi where you can have up to 4 zones of sounds, split or layered. The stage setting stores all of its parameters so you don't need to have any extra tone information. This is like the old Roland edit buffer where all the parameters were in the edit buffer for all parts. Well at least that's how I see it. You never play a tone directly, you always hear the tone "settings" in the context of a Stage Setting. So when you choose a tone in a zone of the stage setting, all the keyboard is doing is loading the zone settings into the zone of the stage setting. I might have made things worse! ---------- OK, now I found out why everything is so confusing. Choose a zone, press DSP, now change the DSP setting. Now on almost every synthesizer when you want to save any changes, you press WRITE. Now the PX-5S asks you to save the TONE. This reinforces old ways of thinking that you need to save a tone because - duh, every synth works this way and you are being prompted to save the tone. Instead of pressing write, simply press exit and hear your modified stage setting. Now press write, choose stage setting instead of tone and save your stage setting. All the DSP changes are saved. Very quick!
  2. > I've never been happy with the PX phaser, Yes, the auto wah and the phaser .... something is not right. Will try and tweak it. Will see. Will be interested in what you come up with.
  3. I like Dyno EP as well. I haven't had time to really edit it, but it plays pretty well in mono. I put the multi-chorus on it and it sounds good.
  4. >: If Casio always planned on using 2nd digit as Bank, Something is wrong here. The first digit is the bank. So lets say you want to go to bank 7. Press bank and 7, now the next button you press is a sound in bank 7. It's just numbered from 0 instead of 1. Once you are in the bank, you press 0-9 like any other keyboard. I think what might be confusing is casio chose to put similar stage settings in the same relative slots in each bank. This is just something they chose to do which I already overwrote! :-)
  5. Wow, that might work. As long as on the female jack side, both sides of the headphones get signal. In the worse case scenario, only one side of the headphones would have sound.
  6. I don't think so. But you could "fake it" but making a stage setting that splits the keyboard, one sound to the left, the other to the right. Then make 2 custom cables - one only uses the left side and the other only uses the right side - but they both take the single side and split it to both sides of the headphone. The bummer is the sound would be mono only and the keyboard would be split - you on one side and gf on other. It would work though....
  7. HAHAHAHA you have to do this BEFORE you press EDIT! Thanks Brad!!!!! I was trying to change the zone AFTER pressing edit. This will work!
  8. Got a call today for a gig. Person asked if I mind carrying my keyboard for a half hour gig. I said no problem, my keyboard is 24 pounds and 88 keys!!!! Of course I could have really bragged and said my other one is 9 pounds and runs on batteries too!
  9. Sorry I meant on the keyboard. I like to program directly on the keyboard first. Plus I like to make changes on stage too. Thanks!
  10. Another weird thing is that the stage setting filter is setup in a wacky way. It's set to recall the compressor but not the EQ. This makes it confusing because the MASTER effects can operate either as per Stage setting or not. But the PX-5S ships so that compressor settings stay the same, but the EQ does not, even though they are in the same MASTER "group". It took me a while before I realized this. Very confusing at first.
  11. Pressing DSP will allow you to put an effect on zone 1 and only zone 1 - unless I am missing a quick way to switch zones when DSP is pressed. For example, lets say I have an EP on zone 1 and strings on zone 2. I want phaser on EP (easily done - just press DSP and assign phaser). Now, I want flanger on strings on zone 2. How do you do this on the PX-5S? So far I believe I need to go to another stage setting, dial up my strings on zone 1, then press DSP etc... and save the tone. Then go back to the original stage setting and load that tone into zone 2. Is this correct?
  12. I found the "quicker keys" num pseudo alpha keys. It helps a little.
  13. I know I am late to the PX-5S party so my thoughts probably have no meaning, but I'll put them out there for the next model. First off, I love the keyboard! It's so good that now I wish it was $100 more and had reinforced jacks - especially for the power supply and main output jacks. For all I know, I will not have any problems, but knowing a bit of electronics makes me worry about those jacks. One problem I keep running into is how easy it is to overwrite the wrong stage setting. It really should show the name of the stage setting that is being overwritten and also have the ability to change the stage setting location destination at any point in the save. Another minor point is that I wish there was a quick way to audition tones without being in a stage setting. I understand that you cannot really listen to a tone outside of a stage setting so this is somewhat minor point, but I probably need to create a default stage setting that has minimal effects etc.... I wish naming was much easier. One thing that would help is being able to press a button and it would instantly default to 'a' or 'A' that way you could type in a name much faster. Even if pressing one button would toggle from 'a' to 'A' to '1' and ' ', that would make things much faster. I think the keyboard would benefit from an additional row of switches. I like the knobs and sliders, but a row of switches would be great! Finally mono mode. It really needs it. I look forward to using this keyboard on my gigs. Nothing beats the form factor and weight! Finally, thank you for making it 1/3 the price of my Kronos! Low cost and lightweight keyboards rule!!!!! The PX-5S with my Korg Kross make a lightweight setup! All battery powered too!
  14. PX-5S sounds and feels great! I LOVE IT!
  15. The deed has been done. Just waiting for the PX-5S and then the programming begins! From what I have read, everything should be easy and doable except mono lead sounds. Will see what happens with those sounds.
  16. One last question. How does it sound in mono as a lot of gigs, I have to monitor in mono. Is the piano still good in mono?
  17. Thanks. I never used the outputs on mine. I really need to get back to playing weighted keys so the PX-5S should be great.
  18. Are most of you gigging with the PX-5S? Has it been reliable? Have any of you had an S90ES? If so, wondering how it compares... Hoping to get mine shortly.
