Carter,  I don't think there is a new *updated* full manual per se for this recent update or any previous updates.  I guess the new *manual* refers to the new updates only?  If so, we can save the new information to supplement the original MZ-X500 manual.

I had printed and spiral bound the MZ' manuals some time ago, with lots of blank A4 pages at the back for me to glue in any updates.  However, Rick has previously shared his *combined* PDF manual, which is great for quick searches. See Rick's previous posts.

Join us as we camp outside Rick Sterling's door,  hoping for the release of his updated *combined* all-in-one MZ-X500 manual PDF.:boing::banana:

Hello, Why to have chosen a Casio keyboard MZ X 300/500 ?

    1/ For his functions

    2 / his characteristics

3 / I have already keyboards of other brands

4 / for the reputation of the Casio brand
    5 / for its availability
6because it is rare and original

       1. For the functions, and lots of 'em. Fancied a change from a PSR-S770 within a similar price range of approx two years' ago.  Like the multiple connections together with the powerful speakers, able to connect other stuff to the keyboard's amplifier and make high quality recordings of inputs. Like the shape and colour, looks like no other keyboard.

       2. 16 PADS a big draw, velocity sensitive,  make own audio samples.

       4.  Availability (UK): Negative, but that didn't stop me from buying mail order from Germany. No UK shops stocking Casio MZ-X500 and got cold-shouldered by UK dealers when trying to order one.  So ha-ha to UK dealers with their heads stuck up their own  *****.

      6. Yes, I agree,  it is a rare and original model from Casio. Does me nicely.

Ok. I'm not sure where you were in the menus, probably the bank select screen it sounds like. I have used the chord sequence thing a couple of times. It's pretty handy.  Try this...

    1. Press menu>pad. Pad 1 should be highlighted in red.

    2. Press record>chord

    3. Press record setting to set length, precount, metronome, beat

    4. Press accomp on/off button. It should be lit.

    5. Press the standby play button that is flashing or start playing chords.

    6. Press stop.

    5. Test your recording. Press loop and hold to force the pad to keep playing in a loop without needing to hold it.

    6. To save the new user chord sequence, press pad edit>write...

    7. To save the new user pad bank, press bank edit> write

    8. To save the user pad bank in a registration, hold the store button while pressing a registration button.

    9. To synchronize accompaniment start with the pad, hold synchro and press a pad. It will flash. Press accompaniment play button to start the show.  Enjoy!

Thanks a lot for that, Brad, you're the man. :applause:

Does the MZX only Sample in Mono?I sampled a panning Sample and it only played back in Mono.

Hi there,  I think the MZX samples only in mono.   Using the handy all-in-one manuals PDF (from Rick Sterling) searched for 'stereo'.  Refers just to Audio Recording and Pan Position etc, but no mention of sampling of stereo that I could see.  Hope this helps.  (see Rick's combinedManuals link below):

This topic reminds me a bit about the parable of the blind men and the elephant.

You can read about it here.

But that the good parts of the MZ-X  much outweigh the bad eh.

Also Yamaha top end PSR's, Tyros, and Genos.

Can these Top Range keyboards handle inputting lyrics into your own compositions,   score or chords?   That sounds like a handy skill to master,

am not quite ready for a keyboard upgrade right now,  though  :)

UPDATE:   Just read that Band-in-a-box program does the lyrics input thing.

In most cases, there are a variety of parameters available that can be adjusted using a computer, rather than using the keyboard itself.  For example, you can increase or decrease the loudness of the sample, trim the starting and stopping points, set the loop points, adjust the tone using EQ, remove or limit noise using Noise Reduction, etc.  You pretty much limited to the features of the software.  Understand, not all samples will load "ready to play" as there are other adjustments that need to be made once the sample is loaded.  Basically, you're playing with the RAW samples when using software.  When the samples are loaded to create a tone in the X500, you can then further fine-tune the samples using the tools within SampleManager.  But, the X500 needs to be connected via USB to make those adjustments in real-time.

The PADS are pretty much the same, except you can't use SampleManager for the PADS (yes, a disappointment!).  But, using the computer software, you can again fine tune the samples before they are loaded to the PADS.  This will also allow you to trim the samples because the PADS are limited in the amount of time depending on where you select to store them (yes, I found this out the hard way).  Some of the USER spaces are designated for 3 seconds samples and others are for 9 second samples.  (The sample I was importing was approx 8.3 seconds.  I couldn't understand why the sample was being cut off at the 3 second mark until I tried loading the sample to a different USER space and that's when I figured it out!  Also, when you record PAD samples using the X500, the keyboard will automatically place the sample in a USER space for the size selected, SHORT or LONG.  Loading samples using the IMPORT feature does not do this as you select a USER space to load and there is no warning the sample will be cut.)  Again, there are some adjustments that need to be made with the PADS so the samples playback correctly, but not as extensive as those adjustments with tones.

I use the X500 extensively with the classic rock cover band I'm in and use different samples to re-create the sound effects from the original record, pretty effectively.  For example, I've tried a long time to get the sweeping filter sound from The Cars - Moving In Stereo using the XW-P1, but there's too much stepping that really degrades the effect.  Once I had the X500, I sampled the sweeping filter from the record then trimmed/truncated the sample to fit into the time allowed.  Adjusted the timing and loop settings in the x500 and PRESTO!!  I've done this with several songs, again Pink Floyd's - Time and Money using multiple PADS to re-create the different sections where the sounds changed.  The X500 works brilliant for that!!  In fact, I've just added the PX560 to my rig, so I have a pretty decent arsenal (MZ-X500, XW-P1, PX-560M, Novation Bass Station 2).  One of these days, I'll need to take a photo of the rig and post it on the FB site.

Nice post, CoreyW,  that's teaching!  cheers!

  9. :)  "...No videos, no tutorials.....nothing!"...   (unquote)

Absolutely:  Cue a leitmotif (sad wah-wah trombone) for the above.

Such a shame that two great demonstrators of Casio products  (Richard F and Mike M) seemed to have been put on a very short lead by their masters regards English-speaking customers' needs!

No worries,  the Big Blue Beast  still commands pride of place in my little setup.   And plenty left yet of the generous Thomann 3-year warranty!

  10. Merry Christmas from me too, folks and welcome back, Chris.  Good to see you posting again.

So it looks like Casio have dropped their incredible flagship keyboard in Europe?

Casio UK don't even acknowledge the MZ-X500 as the Casio flagship model, of course,  and maybe that was some kind of clue?  Plus the ongoing lack of support videos in English for our English-speaking owners!

One expected that this forum would be bursting at the seams with new members, by now. :)  But since no UK music shops are stocking the Casio MZ-X500, to be tried out by  prospective buyers,  a lot of people out there won't buy anything mail order before actually hearing one played.

Glad I took a chance on the MZ-X500 and got mine from Thomann.   Like the multi-function pads and the great connectivity - loud speakers and all.  Plenty to explore yet on this model, so no hurry to upgrade yet. (famous last words).

An upgraded model MZ-X500?   Sounds expensive!   Cant see it happening though, too soon.   Besides,  after paying £800 new price (before the big price reductions),  that would virtually leave me starting over:  What's the value of a 18-month old MZ-X500 with noisy keys? £250 - £300 tops?:)

     Better start saving.

Friend here we do not have what to complain about Casio Brazil because they have a great number of tutorials in YOU TUBE

Thanks for posting the link,  Silvano.  Although I don't speak the language,  it is refreshing to see a no-nonsense tutorial without the flannel.   And I see lots of other MZ-X tutorials on YouTube by the same gent.

Jealous much? - you bet I am.  :)

Tson, you're right. but the posts about Casio's support of the MZX are also spot-on and relevant: This is a very complex instrument with many different (ideally interconnected) capabilities and Casio has supported it hardly at all. it seems to me the company either signals its commitment to this product line w/ explanatory materials (tutorials, step by step instructions, whatever) as well as OS updates. or it doesn't.

right now, Casio is not listening to its arranger customers. it seems like wasted effort to make wish lists for a product that may already be abandoned. we'll know by NAMM.

Enjoy much of  what my Casio MZ-X500  offers but looking to keep things simple as possible on this rather complex instrument.   My advice would be to Casio:

Please look after your bread-and-butter customers first,  those who like making music but who are not hi-tech experts, and whose busy lives preclude burying their noses in not-so-helpful owner manuals.

In other words,  don't be stingy,  Casio, let's have loads more video tutorials.  Not surprised that no UK shop is stocking the MZ-X500 / 300.

Also disappointed that Mr Mike Martin of Casio (Marketing Director?),  has again taken premature bows  (Facebook) on promises he makes for forthcoming tutorials on the MZ-X500.

Is it just me, or are these so-called 'Webinarse'  sessions  (pardon spelling)  seem rather tedious in the viewing?   Trying picking the helpful hints from an hour-long mixed bag of chat is hard work IMO.

I wonder if someone at Casio has been promoted above their abilities. (the Peter Principle)?   Why cannot Casio higher management recognize this basic error:   to  produce an incredible Flagship arranger / synth, like the MZ-X500, then allow it to flop down flat over the lack of basic customer support!

That's my two-penneth and my personal opinion. :)

Can you fully edit patterns in MZ so I can for example put EDM drum phrase in the Disco style ?

Hi, haven't tried this advanced stuff yet on my MZ-X (hey, its only been eighteen months), but there's a lot of info in the tutorial manual .
