mowkdizz
Hi there, I was recently playing my Privia PX-780M and it turned off. I cannot turn it back on. I tested the output of the power adapter with my volt meter and it reads 24 volts, as expected. I opened the back and I don't see any fried components. I have tried turning it on while holding the function button to no avail. Any suggestions? It is not under warantee, otherwise I would have not opened it. Thanks. IanB
We were just discussing a similar case in another thread and it turned out to the power adaptor. They sometimes when they go faulty are still producing enough volts without a load, but don't do so when connected to the load (the keyboard). Then the keyboard's internal power management sees the bad voltage, shuts itself down, and it's hard to detect what the fault is. So the first question is, can you get your hands on another power supply to try that? Sadly, most electronic failures aren't spectacular enough to fry any components. They go out with a whimper, not a bang
mowkdizz
Thanks Ian, I did try my power supply from my 3D printer (24 volts as well) and it didn't work either. Not sure if this tells us for sure that this isn't the problem or not. Also, I did try to power my 3D printer with the power supply from the keyboard and it worked. Do you know where I could buy an internal power board or what not, or what I should do at this stage? Thanks again.
IanB
Hmm, unfortunately I can't find a schematic for this keyboard so it's hard to do any diagnosis. If you have electronics experience you could use your multimeter to see how far the input voltage is getting onto the power board. Could you post some good pictures of the internals? Also, if it has plug-in cables coming off the power board (if it is separate, presuming it is), just try unplugging them and replugging them. Is the power switch done with a physical latching switch, or is it done with a momentary (push and release) switch? Also, look for any fuses on the power board.
mowkdizz
I have done this - it seems the power is making it's way around the board pretty well. 24V to the LCD screen, to the control board, and the connectors are all tight. I have unplugged and re-plugged the cables quite a few times to no avail. I think the guy I bought it from is going to refund me, so I don't think I should take it apart again. It is a momentary switch and I don't think there are any fuses. Thank you for your help.
IanB
Okay, if you get a refund that's a solution!
