Question about the Casio PT-380

So a few ago I picked up this neat little thing for 5$. Very good condition but without a ROM pack. Since this model has a slot for it I ordered one of those for the sake of making a more "complete" set.

Now, this model also has a microphone holder and input jack. Is there anyone that knows if casio made their own branded microphones for these models as well? If so, I would like to find one!

Any insight is appreciated as always!

Joel

That's a Casio model I have never seen before!

There's some elements of the Casio RAP-1 Rapman in your PT's control layout, and the RAP-1 did actually come with its own microphone (I'm not sure if it had Casio written on it though). Problem is, most of them got separated over time and it's very hard to find a RAP-1 complete with original microphone.

Another Casio that came with a microphone is the VA-10 "Voice Arranger". Those are rare and don't come up for sale much, plus similar to the RAP-1, unless you find one still boxed complete with accessories (expensive and collectible), they too are often missing the microphone.

You could probably find a cheap generic mic that would work and fit that stand. The mics that come with the cheap and nasty kids keyboards would suffice, and they'll probably be fine as they're just a basic condenser type mic. I bought one of these cheap and awful keyboards for a project, $14.99 including shipping, and it came with the microphone, power adapter and charging cable!

It truly was an awful keyboard, and the mic was probably the best part!

The PT-380 seems to be a variant of Casio PT-88.

The CPU of my PT-88 is "OKI M6521-02, 032002, Japan" (60 pin SMD). What is yours?

While the PT-88 is only 2 note polyphonic (by omitted keyboard matrix diodes), PT-380 seems to have 4-note polyphony. Likely this is switched by an additional matrix diode somewhere (or is the CPU software number different?).

pinout M6521

The "OKI M6521-xx" CPU (pins count anticlockwise, xx = software number of internal ROM) is a 60 pin SMD variant of the M6387 that (unlike older Casio keyboards) supports a matrix of key lighting LEDs without the need of driver transistors. Each LED is wired from an LY to an LX pin. The pins 51..58 can control the ROM-Pack port. Without a ROM-Pack connected, the key lighting apparently uses demo songs from its internal ROM. Like M6387 it is clocked at 21.725 MHz.

The versions of "OKI M6521-xx" ("xx" = software number of internal ROM) differ in demo songs, rhythms and sound set.

software number hardware class notes & features
02 PT-88 32 keys, key lighting, 100 sounds, 12 rhythms, 5 drumpads, rom-pack, 4 songs
06 RAP-1 30 sounds, 25 rhythms implemented as songs
10 ML-1 25 sounds, 12 rhythms, 10 songs (need no lit sharp keys)
11 ML-2 like 11 with changed 10 songs

This pinout was concluded from the service manual of ML-2 (which uses no ROM-Pack), SK-8 service manual and wiring of the PT-88 PCB.
