  1. File Name: Ragtime Piano File Submitter: Mike Martin File Submitted: 11 Sep 2013 File Category: PX-5S Stage Settings A Hex Layer used for piano. Utilizing 5 layers which slightly different pitch key tracking to create a naturally detuned acoustic piano sound. Great for Ragtime. Click here to download this file
  2. The piano sounds themselves are identical to the existing PX-150. The new effects and hall simulations are entirely new. We can't unfortunately use the names of the places that were modeled for the reverb simulations but you have two of them correct.
  3. BJ, I finally had a chance to play this. Nice! A couple of notes: Zone 3 came over as a Synth Bass and Zone 4 was another String. I'm not sure if this is what you intended based on the description. Slider 2 - If you're going to use that for tempo, I would suggest limiting the range of the tempo. Maybe from 70bpm to 150pm.
  4. Please list your topics that you'd like to see addressed during the clinic.
  5. Take for example the following scenario: Zone 1 Piano Zone 2 Strings In the zone settings for each of these two sounds you can set the Volume for each of these so they have a nice balance. Perhaps it is: Zone 1 Piano - Volume 127 Zone 2 Strings - Volume 100 This way the strings sit slightly behind the piano in the mix. If you set the sliders to Expression to control them, the strings can never exceed the volume of 100. If you used volume instead of expression it is possible that the strings would go beyond the maximum "volume" you set and would be too loud compared to the piano. So the zones keep their relative mix when you use expression. In another scenario you may want your Stage Setting to start with the Volume of some sounds set to 0 then you use the sliders to bring those in at a later point in the performance. This is about the only scenario where I'd recommend using Volume instead of Expression.
  6. No need to press and hold the "-" minus button. When editing Knob2 is always parameter entry. Just a quick turn of the knob gets you there. Knob1 scrolls you up and down through the list of parameters.

A mono version. Based on a Stage Setting made by Jim Alfredson who's been out performing live with his PX-5S is this new EQ'd piano preset. The low mid frequencies are cut, along with boost in the upper mids and high frequences, resulting in a piano sound that provides some cut and presence in a live mix. This is a Stage Setting. Thank you Jim Alfredson.

  9. Rhpsdodo, Have you checked some of the brass sounds like Stage Setting 8-5? In regards to controlling your iPad do not use the MIDI Slave or Master - this has to do with MIDI "Clock" or tempo. Instead after selecting the Stage Setting you want to use, press Edit, Select Stage Setting. Select Zone Edit, then MIDI Edit. For any of the 4 zones you can choose if the zone is controlling an internal sound (Generator ON) or external instrument through MIDI. Each zone has ON/Off Switches for both USB and MIDI.
  10. There are definitely instances where you will want to use CC#07 instead of CC#11. This was already done as a downloadable template: http://www.casiomusicforums.com/index.php?/files/file/53-4-zones-4-sliders/
  11. 1. iMS20 is the bass sound. 2. I didn't use the chord track. I used the Phrase Sequencer for both the bass iMS20 and the pad sounds coming from NAVE. Basically, I hit the record button the Phrase recorder, made sure it was recording a NEW phrase and as soon as I begin playing it starts recording. When I've played the chord part, I just hit the record button again and it plays that part over and over. Later, I hit the record button again and overdubbed the bass part. 3. Yes. The phrase recorder is repeating what I've played for both the bass part and the pad part. I wasn't using Audiobus, both apps support background audio so I was able to simply select the other app and iMS20 kept running in the background.
  12. 1. Choose all your sounds in advance. Know which sound is going to go on which Step Sequencer track (what keys you'll need to play). 2. Create the necessary splits and layers in the Performance. 3. Practice and have fun.
  13. You can press and hold the RECORD button and it will delete (UNDO) the last take. It took me 3 or 4 tries. The most difficult part which I still didn't get exactly right in this version is the transition before the solo. I'm doing the swells with the knobs, have to return to pattern 1 on the Step Sequencer and be ready to play the run on the Solo Synth.
  14. Here is something I did using the XW-G1 but the same thing could be done using a XW-P1. Nothing is pre-recorded. This is all done live using the Step Sequencer and the Phrase Recorder. Also utilizing the iPad apps NAVE and iMS-20.

It is so easy to be inspired by the Minimoog. Such as classic design and sound that is still sought after today. While being a digital synthesizer, the XW-series can do a pretty remarkable job of mimicking those classic Moog sounds. The Minimoog had 3 oscillators plus a noise generator and although the XW has a 4th oscillator in its Solo Synth engine - all of these sounds were crafted with the original in mind. A set of 10 Leads and basses, the specialties of the Minimoog. Separate versions above for the XW-P1 and XW-G1. Note that by design, some of the bass sounds will only function in the bottom three octaves of the keyboard. http://youtu.be/8XG5zQ9_lw8

  21. Patrick, Your VS2400 won't do it, nor would any other stand alone hard disk recorder that I'm aware of. You would need to send the XW a MIDI message...not just a "start/stop" message. They're two different things. The XW is working as intended, it is not a workstation. With a computer based DAW such as Cakewalk's Sonar or other you could do what you're asking, but at that point you're also eliminating the need for a phrase.
  22. Of course it can. Press and hold the MEDIA button.Select LoadSelect TONEFrom the left side of the keyboard press the Hex Layer button.
