  1. I have just bought the PX560. Great Keyboard and sounds, however, casio are miles behind in terms of functionalilty. WHY OH WHY cant they enable this 'all singing and dancing machine' to be able to read SMF1!!! Also many keyboards now are able to play MP3 Tracks......Not a chance here with casio...WAV only and even then they have to be called track 1, track 2 etc. Not a meaningful track name........... A simple software update could solve all these little issues, but casio don't ever seem to listen. I have been writing to them for years with suggestions of improvements but they never seem to implement a thing... We can live in hopes...... I now have PX-850. PX-350, PX-5S and PX-560. Love all of them, but they are all lacking some very basic functionality that Yamaha Keyboards have had for years.

Many people have talked on here about rhythm loops and I have had a little experiment with a few ideas. I found for me, the easiest way is to set my rhythm loops up on a phrase which then repeats. A simple swing rhythm in the background of Misty played on piano and strings is quite nice. I have also found that setting sliders 1-4 to volume for zones 1 to 4 means I am able to balance between (for example) 1- Drums -2 Hex Grand Piano 3- Electric Piano 4- Strings. This creates a very simple but effective canvas to work with. I program my various rhythms so they are sequentially programmed on the phrases so for example 101-Swing 1, 102-swing 2 103-swing 3 etc.. this means that with a single stage setting, I can simply push the phrase button and then the + or - button to step through to the pattern I want. I have basic bossanova, several swing, ballad and a latin pop rhythm I use. You can also vary sound a little by changing the drum kit used. It is important to have the zone enabled so you can still effect it with the various knobs and sliders. To prevent the keys sounding the percussive sounds I set the Drum zone (which has to be Zone 1) so that it only plays on G9. I have attached a few drum loop phrases. If you are able to change between phrases on the first beat of the bar then you can change mid play without any noticeable interruption. I have attached a few phrases for you to put on your PX5S to have a play with... Remember to unzip them and put them in your musicdat folder. Upload them into your arpregiator and have fun. If any one needs a stage setting fileusing them, let me know. My swing patterns were loaded from phrase 101-106. Regards Steve

  6. Many people have commented on Sliders for volume control. Just because the slider is ON in the menu doesn't mean it will control volume. The sliders can be used for many different purposes, depending on how they are set. They also need to be targetted to the right Zone. If I want slider one only to operate zone one, then it needs to be switched off for zones 2,3 and 4. Then Slider 2 for zone 2, means it needs to be switched off for 1,3 and 4. I know it all seems a little confusing at first but I have only had my PX5s a week and gigged with it last night. No problems at all, including setups using drums, Bass, arps, pianos and strings. Al independently controllable on volume sliders. There is a great video clip on youtube that simply shows you how to assign sliders and tones for volume layer adjustment. None of us could run before we could walk and this instrument is no exception. I am loving it and have done some amazing setups in just a few days. I am confident that it is just a matter of getting your head around the architecture. Once you have done that, the world is your oyster..........Enjoy.....
