thestudiofoz
I'm trying to setup my XW-P1 to Ableton on my mac, what I've done is use an instrument cable going out of the XW-P1 that goes into my A/D converter which is a komplete audio 6. The problem is I want the midi information as well so I can quantize it inside ableton, I'm also getting a horrific buzzing noise that could possibly just be noise floor or what? My cables arn't crossing each other anywhere so it couldn't be that, any ideas? Please help!
Display Name
Hi and welcome to the Casio Music Forums!Without more information, here's my best answers to your concerns:MIDI issue: Just connect a USB cable from your XW-P1 to your computer.Noise issue: If you've eliminated bad cables or any other malfunction, I am guessing you have a ground hum issue.. see this for more info about what it is and how to get rid of it: http://www.audioholics.com/home-theater-connection/ground-loops-eliminating-system-hum-and-buzz Cheers!Scott

thestudiofoz
Still no luck, I've looked the manual and that hasn't helped either. I'm able to get midi information inside ableton via the usb cable but I can't get the sounds to play I'm about to give up there is absolutely no information about this anywhere and I can't even seem to update the firmware, why is this so impossible!? XW-Addict
Check in Ableton preference -> Midi if Casio midi as output, check if this is green and not grey if so try to select a different output if that the case.
thestudiofoz
Not sure if it's green or grey, but I've uploaded a few picture of my ableton session if you could check it out and see whats wrong with it. I took pictures of the preferences and everything Also I've set the midi preferences inside the xwp1 to USB if that matters I'm not sure Here are the pics http://imgur.com/a/46mSl#
Display Name
Please explain exactly what you are trying to do.. when you say you can't get the sounds to play.. what sounds do you mean? The PX-5S sounds or the Ableton? The more details you can provide about what your goals are the better we can help you.
Null
First off on the XW's don't you have to enable MIDI IN or MIDI OUT on the keyboard's MAIN MENU? Gary
thestudiofoz
Oh ok, let me clarify what I'm trying to do is get the sounds of the keyboard into ableton, sorry I don't mean to be vague. I have the xw-p1 and I want to make music with it inside ableton so essentially I'd like to connect the keyboard and have it transfer midi info and record the sound as well so that I can make a beat with it inside of ableton. I've looked through the xw's main menu and enable midi out, and I get midi info inside ableton so I can use it as a midi controller but I can't get the keyboards sounds inside ableton without using an interface, but when I use an interface I don't have any control over the midi so I can't quantize it and stuff like that which is kind of useless for what I'm trying to do. Does that clear it up enough?
Null
The problem is that your DAW doesn't work that way. No DAW does. What you CAN do is record a MIDI track while simultaneously recording an AUDIO track from the synth thru an interface into your DAW. What you can't do however, is edit and process both tracks simultaneously. AUDIO is Analog data. MIDI is DIGITAL data. MIDI is the timed sequence of digital events that triggers analogue synths in your XW to produce a sequence of sounds. The Audio output may be digitized when it's saved and generated, but when your ears percieve it it's still Analog data. The upshot is that you simply cannot record an audio output from your keyboard and treat it like MIDI digital data in the DAW. What you'd have to do is record a range of samples from one particular voice of the XW, then create a virtual instrument plugin for your DAW so it could manipulate the sounds in the way you'd like. Not an easy task, if not impossible for a casual user. Gary

Zergmazter
Hi. Well you could always sample your sounds with your DAW, send the midi signal from your synth to your DAW and then use your P1's sampled sounds. I dont know if Ableton does that. I got FL studios and thats what i did one time. Im now just Using my P1 strictly midi as there are many plugins with a lot of amazing sounds. Oops happyrat beat me to it... EDIT: In FL studio i just replaced the sound i used with the samples I imported from my synth. I dont even bother anymore I got plenty of sounds in my DAW hehe.
