  1. OK thanks. Is anyone else getting skipped beats etc? I cannot find any specific thread but only anecdotal comments here and there.
  2. Hello, I have been reading about delays and jams on the CTX. I am presently seeing some irregular tempos and stacked drum sounds on some registrations. Another registration with the same rhythm but different tempo works fine. Is there a way to fix this? I saw the update for 1.08 perhaps this would be the solution? Thanks
  3. Hey guys another update. I am looking to have my sounds as close to "final production quality", it seems that negative eq'ing (user eq) of the mids and then slight boost at lows and highs get me close. The negative eq'ing of mids leaves headroom for the lows and top. I also increased mix levels for the bass patch and kick drum. The CTX can get there it's not 100% but then some post processing will finish the job. Leaving this here for other audiophile enthusiasts and hobbyist producers.
  4. So my sound engineer friend just confirmed there is something going on with the bass tones frequencies. His term was "anemic" even though I had the bass + eq going. I have however realized now, as pointed previously, that adding DSP would probably help for those deep tones I am looking for. I think this might just be the solution here as everything else is great.
  5. Hey thanks yeah I have quality soundcard and have done this before. This seems to apply mainly to some of synth sounds I tried to achieve. Everything else is really great I am realizing. It's like some sounds are coaxed to a certain palette, and it's hard to change that. I think I just need to learn the sounds a little more. Every keyboard has its "sound". The synth kick drums also probably need a bit of detuning and the external reverb did have a big impact. I'd love to hear how others are doing their post-processing? You mentioned recording your in a digital recorder. I can litteraly do anything on my computer and would want to keep any worthy CTX recordings for final cuts.. Thanks
  6. Hello guys, thanks for your responses. I have tried both lineout>mixer>soundcard as well as lineout>soundcard then to my monitors. Also tried an external reverb which affects the sound in some cases as the CTX reverb may filter some low trails. Following hours and recordings (including FFT analysis in my DAW), it seems this has to do with the synth tones of the CT-X. In comparing with synth sounds from other keyboards, CTX sounds are probably made to sound balanced for most circumstances and there is less risk taking. It could also be that my preference towards music is to more full, bassy with slight teasing highs (electronic music) where the CTX tends towards the mids and bright side leaving bass manageable. There are only a few tones that can actually reach the deeper low end out of the box. Brad I wish you could please help me out here I have seem many comments including yours and you know Casio well. The master EQ has many options but might not allow to go beyond a certain range. Is external eq required here? You mentioned in another thread that Casio's typically transpose well in live/PA situations. Can you please elaborate? I only plan for recording and want to keep things as simple as possible. P.S.: this seems to concern mainly the synth sounds as the acoustic sounds are spectacular. Thanks
  7. Hello, when recording using the line outs, it seems my recordings are lacking bass. I tried to tweak EQ presets and custom user but can't get it right. The "bass+" and "loudness" EQ setting get me close but the manual user EQ starts to distort if I push it too hard. Maybe I should look at negative EQ'ing instead of the highs as a workaround? I have searched around and it seems (as per Brad's post a few years back) that some of the Casio's internal circuits are mainly set to match the internal speakers. This is showing very clearly when I play back a recording using my line out. I am using mono out (if that's relevant for phase cancellation..I am not sure) Please let me know if there is a recommendation for this? Thanks
  8. OK thanks. That's too bad but nice to know at least. CTX is still quite a beast. I am also learning that the song system will create a separate copy of the registration tones to its tracks but not the drums. If you change the source rhythm after recording, your song will be affected. Changing the registration will not affect it. A lot to take in consideration! I need to keep a separate note sheet handy for all these items. Thanks for your help.
  9. Hello Brad, thanks for jumping in. I just recorded a fresh rhythm using a reverb with a delay trail. This reverb was selected via the menu > registration 8 > rhythm > reverb and then saved. Upon playing back this rhythm alone, the intended reverb does indeed sound (I maxed the mixer for rhymth>reverb send). When recording a song using this same rhymth, the active registration reverb becomes the only one affecting my drums. Thanks
  10. Friendly bump please anyone? Brad, any chance you could please help me out? Thanks
  11. On my 5000, it seems my line out has AC hum when powered off. This does not happen with the headphones out. Anyone care to comment? It's not so obvious normally but audible when my mixer level is cranked. Thanks
  12. My keys are a bit clacky on my 5000 and i really don't mind. It's a good sign that it is put to good use. These things are normal in my opinion. You could eventually put some grease after warranty wears out. Every played an Ensoniq SQ-80 or ESQ-1? These are still highly regarded and the keys were very noisy. It happens sometimes.
  13. Good stuff thanks for making and sharing. It's quite entertaining actually and the sounds are so lovely and vintage. Nice!
  14. You can play softer if you change the touch to "hard"...then playing normally will just be softer and just play it harder if you want it to jump more.
  15. Hello, can you please confirm that a previously saved user rhythm effects (i.e. reverb) gets lost when recording a song? The recorded song, including the rhythm seems to default to the same global effect on playback which is selected by my registration (I believe). Is there a way to record a song with separate effects for rhythm and keyboard? I also see in the block diagram at Appendix A5 there is a separate system effects "2". Does this get assigned coming from my registration? Can I change it later and save it? Thanks for clarifying.
  16. Hi! Yes this is a good option for sure I actually started down that path! Thanks so much
  17. OK so this feature works more or less (only on that kit) probably not supposed to be there.anyhow good to know 🙂
  18. Yes I saw that there's really a lot! Most are really good and punchy can't complain here. Would you know of any way to apply dsp or filter here? Otherwise I will work with the detune it may be OK for time being. Thanks!
  19. Hello! I am looking to obtain a specific kick drum sound which is common in ambient and deep dub techno type. The kick is simple, deep, has no overtones, typically highs are filtered. I checked everywhere and the deep kicks have a top layer (noise or bass sound) which I would need to remove. Applying filter to a kick does not seem possible. The other option is to detune a kick lower using the bend range. It's close but it's not quite right. Is there any other trick one could think of by any chance please? Could I use DSP on drums in some way? Thanks
  20. OK very nice! It was not easy to find in the manual..for some reason the most important things I need are hard to find in the manual 🙂 Much appreciated!!!
  21. Hello! I am trying to record some drums. Sometimes, a recorded element is not right and needs to be redone. Is there a way to clear the element without deleting the tone patch or otherwise exit the bad recording (write?: no) without also exiting the drum mode? It looks like what I am looking for is a overdub which does not seem to be available on rhythms.. Only way for me right now is to record empty elements with the patch and "save". Then any additional discarded recordings will maintain the patch. Is this the right way? I am also looking at copying blank elements from another part. Any suggestions welcome. Thanks
  22. OK! You just saved me a week here! That is great! I really think Casio should make it a bit clearer (especially the rhythm beats) or include an annex eventually. I will be writing this down on a sheet for reference in any case. Thanks again much appreciated.
  23. Can you please point out on which page is the table for beat values for rhythms? I really can't find it...sorry. As for the back and forth, it looks like the default drum tone (765, standard1) comes out everytime I clear an element...looks like normal behaviour. Please confirm? Thanks
  24. Very good!! Is this in the manual? Now can you please tell me how to ensure the proper drum set is maintained when I edit? It seems it defaults back to the first one after some back and forths. Thanks!!
