  1. Oh I also found out that when u have an accompaniment running you can change the tones on each layer. Thus ending up with completely different style.
  2. Hi I have been making my own styles and it’s going well but I notice that when I get to the last layer (chord 4?) (or the number 6 button), the sound is choked or truncated as if the machine is running out of voices.
  3. Thanks Brad if sorted it. It works with direct connection but I'm going thru a 6 in 1 c type multi thing for iPad. I think I need to attach it to a powered bus or a Scarlett the 'thing' doesn't have enough power on its own. Cheers. Dr John Campbell sounds good thru the Casio speakers tho
  4. Hi I'm trying to output my iPad thru the audio in on the ctx 500. I don't think it's working any ideas ? Cheers
  5. Also people have different expectations. Complex ones defined by what experience of musical equipment they have tried. Some people like me are amazed at what these things sound like. The last synth I had was manufactured a good 20 years ago so I am blown away. Trade offs is the word for stuff. Wish lists are common. Some things have work arounds or mods and other stuff gets sold on. It's unusual to hit a brick wall with a product that you love but is ultimately you can't work with. So yes I guess Casio would have to look at at how many units they've sold. And what they have in the pipeline to amaze people in the future. If nothing much happening in the research and design department go back and rectify a couple of things that could have been implemented more satisfactorily
  6. Hi just thought I would comment. Yes I agree this was an over sight on behalf of casio. Unfortunately this is common amongst all manufacturers. There are always design faults in gear. We are buying imperfect designs. Also the less expensive a product the more unwilling manufacturers are to rectify or halt the signing off of things. The people who make them are human and make mistakes. The lack of ability to change the relational volumes of voices is quite a big one to be frank. But it's not something that would warrant a recall or an update because both voices work and sound fine ect. I always find that manufacturers of products ( for instance children's toys ? ) Rarely try out out the products they've made. If they did design flaws would be noticed. I get the impression Casio thought wow we've got this amazing aix chip and were a bit blinded by this. If they hadn't had the chip they would of had to have made the product stronger in other areas.
  7. This thought fills me with horror. One of the best things about this / these keyboards is the invention of the tablet. Maybe an I pad. But these are way out of my price range. The keyboard should be able to talk to the piano software on iPad. Hang on. Didn't the ctx 5000 come with some music lessons? I forgot about that. Anyway imagine a living piece of sheet music in front of you as you play. With lyrics aswell. That would be amazing. Yes I bought a kareoki machine for my kid and we haven't used it. It's just too many wires and leads already. I am lead phobic.
  8. That's handy I wonder who wrote all these 'sounds like house if rising sun' type tunes. I bought a kareoke cd (150 songs) expecting them to be originals but they were all done on a keyboard similar to this one I presume. I felt short changed but thinking about it a song is it's basic thing and it is also a product or commodity which has millions spent on the production in order to get a return. I am experiencing a certain dimension in music where the vocals and the sentiments behind the song/ beautiful songwriting becomes the most important thing. As well as well known songs bringing people together who already know the songs. Think it is a very interesting and satisfying thing to do. Modern day folk music I guess. It's (ctx) is a perfect tool for it. Think of the huge goldmine of amazing songs already written. There is definitely a unique skill in translating these songs into arranger format - esp live. I want to do a godley and creme one. Cry?Many musical people are walking juke boxes anyway. I think the most important thing is to feel some enthusiasm for anything in life so I think products like this are very valuable things.
  9. As an aside I just got a gig bag for keyboard. Was going to get the cover but thought might as well get the bag instead. Just not sure how they expect the volume knob to survive it.
  10. I'm not sure about manufacturing things but I get the feeling that a certain amount of redundancy is just part of the situation with modern affordable technology. On the subject of home keyboards Vs their professional equivalents I have a very old Casio professional keyboard which is built like a tank but I never use it cos it doesn't sound very interesting and it's too heavy. I bought the CTX 5000 so i could share it with my young son but it actually sounds much too nice to let him play on it. So in the ctx5000 I have a professional sounding keyboard ( that you could use in a film score on a movie (?) ) But at the same time it might not stand up to the physical stresses of a professionally made instrument. If the keys went I would plug in a midi controller keyboard
  11. Yes looking forward to the day when I have a good overview if what the hell is going on. What we need is a PowerPoint overview of the architecture. It needs some graphics for definite. I still don't know what system tracks and solo tracks are. This keyboard is supposedly aimed at home keyboardists and hobbyists who don't have the time to devot to studying paradigms. Mind you it is quite exciting knowing that a whole lot of mysteries are to be discovered. But frustrating. I think the best thing these keyboard makers could do is have a microphone input and what ever you hum into it , it will translate it into musical data. That would be useful. And so easy to implement. I mean everyone can sing a tune. None of this step input palarva. How out dated is that? Anyway good luck. Thing about music and this keyboard in particular is that there is something for everyone. The player. The programmer. The sound designer. The midi person. The composer. People who can't play much and people who are talented and might use 16 sequencer tracks. So I think it's a great machine. And also it's evolved. I think being able to play different sounds on a piano is now an amazing thing, as technology has finally given something that sounds actually pretty good. After decades of sounding a bit suspect. And fairly cheaply.
  12. Oh while I think of it I remember seeing somewhere the point that a button is not as good as a dedicated modulation wheel. I thought that a button could be used as a more percussive effect - that was my thought although I haven't tried it !
  13. Not sure I understand the concept of a system track yet - but I'm thinking that is everything?
  14. That does sound interesting. So basically if you create your own style and make a song with chord changes and everything you can export the midi into a daw?
