Thanks Gary. I have two more weeks to finish it up and I will try that idea out. I plan to break it up a bit to make it more interesting, the original bit is the overall tone I have in my head for the piece.

Thanks for the response and the link, I will try it out over the weekend. I've been checking craigslist for a Leslie or a good rotary pedal. I missed a 122 for $125 recently. I'm about convinced that the Leslie or a Ventilator (or similar, I want to check out the RT-20) is the ticket. Obviously, the pedals are much more portable and I'll probably go that route if I can. However, most keyboards don't have an effects loop. The closest i can get with the gear I have now is a Digitech TR-7 and a chorus pedal in the chain, but I don't think it's very realistic. However, when I run it all into a Marshall, it cops decent "angry" tones like Jon Lord and Steve Winwood that are acceptable for live performance. I have one slot left in my JV-1080 and may fill it with the Keyboards of the 60s and 70s board. That's the cheapest option, but the least flexible. However, the board has some fantastic Wurli, Vox, and Farfisa tones on it as well, I do have one grumble.... WHY do 90% of the rotary effects pedal demos feature guitars? The Behringer RM600 sounds surprisingly good. This isn't the best quality video, but the guy can play. However, after reading reviews on the construction quality, I remain skeptical.

Nice article, this is an interesting piece of gear. I looked at the Krome, but hated the keyboard. I'm very curious to hear the organ sounds on the PX-5S. Can it come close to a B3 tone? The Wurli sounds very nice.

Hm, I'd better dig into the manual and take a look at how to upload patches. Any patch including "WhiterShade" gets my immediate attention. If I could nail that tone, I'd be a very happy man. My NI Vintage Organs nails it, but I'd like to have it on my Casio. My JV-1080 also comes close, but neither device is very portable or requires a computer. Another tone I need to work on his Winwood's from "Gimmee Some Lovin". Mike, I do have an offbeat question for you and there's no sense starting a new thread to ask it. What's under the rubber pad on the inside of the XWs? Empty space (I hope)? If you don't know, I'll take a peek myself. I have an idea.

Nice work Gary. The Venom really sticks out in the mix. There is a very identifiable sound quality to that synth.

I'm not familiar with the Korg, I use an LPD8 controlling Superior Drummer and a BCR2000 controlling some synths. Try out the software, it should allow you to map MIDI messages between the Korg and the Casio. You might also find that there is a group supporting the Korg. There is a BC2000 group on Yahoo that shares information about the Behringer controllers.

What external controller are you using, and what software are you using to map?

I'd be curious to know the settings for your B3 sound. I haven't attempted to create that tone yet, since I have NI Vintage Organs and a JV-1080 that do a good job. However, it would be nice to have on the Casio.

David, when I refer to an interface I mean a recording interface that is attached to the PC by firewire or USB with a MIDI connection to the keyboard. That is one way of connecting, the other is MIDI over USB that tnicoson described above. Casio has several files for the XW series that you can download from their site such as the data editor and a firmware update if you need it.

I bought mine as a customer return from AMS for that price. I would never have known it had been out of the box.

David, have you installed your XW-P1 drivers? Also, how do you connect your MIDI, through an interface?

I like that last video. The PX seems to be a very good all-around board. I'm curious as to what the limits of storage are for the USB input. In other words, is there a limit on the number of gigabytes it will support? Could an external hard drive be used with it?
