  1. That's too bad. It would certainly cut down on cords. Do you know of anything similar that might be coming from Casio that would be compatible with the CTX series?
  2. The new Casio CT-S1 using the AIX tone generator, also brags about the ability to use an optional Bluetooth device for wireless connectivity. The device uses the USB connector on the CT-S1, Is it possible to use one of these Bluetooth devices on a CT-X5000? If not, why, and if yes, where do you find them and the approximate cost. Are they Send/Receive or simply Send and only enabling you to Play through a Bluetooth receiver. If it does Send/Receive, is it compatible with USB MIDI? In other words, can it connect with a Bluetooth capable computer in order to operate with your DAW?
  3. Thank you Chandler! After looking at the website and associated literature, I believe the iConnectivity mioXM looks like exactly what I am looking for. A bit pricey, but once set up there would be no need for all the patching and wiring resets every time. I could just connect the ins and out of my 2 older DIN Midi keyboards and my 2 newer USB Midi keyboards as well as using a controller keyboard to basically play all keyboards with their assigned voices at the same time if so required and reconfiguring the setup would be done through the mioXM and compatible software. The computer DAW could provide voice change information to each keyboard or sound module independently. A great deal of possibilities. When I can convince my wife that I need another piece of equipment, I'll get one and let you know how well it works.
  4. Does anyone know of a midi interface that, for example, might have 2 or 3 midi in's and out's that would not pass through the name of the USB from the keyboard? Say that you connect 2 keyboards that have the same USB name (such as those 2 Casio keyboards mentioned above), but the names get ignored and the in's an out's are re-labeled as simply in's/out's 1, 2 or 3. This would allow a patchbay to use keyboards simply from the designated In/Out number, stripping out the specific name of each keyboard.
  5. I checked the pitch wheel as you mentioned above and it seems to have remedied the problem. I just ran the pitch wheel up and down a couple times and now it's back in tune with the CT-X. I turned it off and on again a couple of times just to make sure it was working properly and LO and Behold, it's fixed. Brad to the rescue once again.
  6. I have a CTK7000 with a tuning problem I cannot resolve. When I turn it on it is 1 1/2 steps sharp. I play a C on my CT-X5000 and I have to play a Bb on the CTK7000 to match tones. I have tried re-initializing and it seems to be corrected, but if I turn it off and turn it back on, it goes back to being 1 1/2 steps sharp. I have tried using the DEFAULT to set it back to factory settings and again, it works until I turn it off and then back on. Playing an organ setting this evening, it detuned itself while I was playing. As it is, it is worthless as a performance instrument because it will not stay tuned to A440. What could be causing this? I like the organ settings, the Leslie effects and the drawbar capabilities on the CTK7000 better than the organ voices on the CT-X5000, but it is completely unreliable. It might start out in tune, but go out of tune at any time. I don't want to chuck it, but I can't use it as is. I need some ideas as to how to fix this problem.
  7. Yes, I got "2 Pd 2 Type" one time. Now when I try to set it up I no longer get "2 Pd 2 Type" as an option. I get "1 Pd1Efect", "Pd1Enabl", "3 Pd2Efect", "Pd2Enabl" and "ExPCalib". did I do something wrong? I've turned off the keyboard, changed the polarity switch and now I get "1 Pd1Efect", "Pd1Enabl", "3 Pd2Efect", "Pd2Enabl", "1Pd2 Type" and "ExPCalib". I turned it off again, changed the polarity switch back to previous position and I get the same results. I am no longer getting "2 Pd 2 Type" as an option. I must have done something wrong. When I have "1Pd2 Type" on and use the + or - buttons I get "2 ExpType1", "3 ExpType2" and "1 Foot Sw". How do you select which of those you wish to use? What I want to use is Setting Value 4 (Rhy/Song) in order to start and stop the Auto Accompaniment. So far the only effect the expression pedal produces, no matter how I have tried to set it up, is as a volume pedal. It did function as a variable sustain pedal one time. Is Value Setting 4 only available with a foot switch pedal. It doesn't seem like an expression pedal could function as a start and stop switch.
  8. I recently purchased an M-Audio EX-P expression pedal and tried to set it up as the manual indicates. However, the manual says to select either "2 Exp Type1" or "3 Exp Type2", but neither of these options appear. The closest that does appear is "2 Pd 2 Type". This appears no matter which position the polarity switch is in. The other messages that I can scroll through at this point are "1 Pd1Efect", "Pd1Enabl", "5 Pd2Efect", "Pd2Enabl", "2 Pd 2 Type" and "ExPCalib". The polarity switch position does not change any of the prompts. Since I get no prompt as indicated in the manual, what should I use, if any. Is this pedal incompatible with my CT-X5000?
  9. Thank you so much for your input. You've given me some ideas to work with. But since both Casios are USB midi, I think changing one to DIN midi might require that host that we discussed earlier. I'll have to think about it some more, but again thank you for your advice.
  10. I got the Korg to play by inserting the OUT DIN plug on the midi2usb cable to the IN midi port on the Korg. Now, if it's possible to change the usb label on one or the other Casios, I will have all 3 playing from the controller keyboard.
  11. Jose, I am doing what you suggested. I had a midi2usb cable (unfortunately, the same one you pictured). I downloaded a Soundigy Midi Patchbay which allows for IN's and OUT's of up to 8 USB's. I installed it on my desktop (it runs Ableton Live), instead of the tablet. The desktop runs Windows 7, the tablet uses Windows 8.1. I got a 7 port USB Hub. Connected the midi2usb DIN IN's & OUT's to the Korg module, then connected a USB cable to the CTX5000. I also have a CTK7000 which I also connected with a USB cable. Then connected the UMX61 controller with a USB cable. I mapped the patchbay IN's & OUT's to all 4 instruments. I am receiving input from the controller, but the only instrument playing is the CTK7000. I am getting nothing from the Korg and since both Casios appear with the same name, I can't have 2 with the same name in the output. One is automatically removed, so I can get either Casio to respond to the controller, but not both together. On the midi2usb cable, the output LED flashes when the controller is played, but no input LED lights up. I am getting nothing from the Korg no matter how it's configured in the patchbay. When I play on the controller connected to either Casio, I get the Stage Piano. Changing a voice on the keyboard doesn't change from the Stage Piano. How ever you can use any voice you want and play it on the Casio, but if you play the controller as well, you get the Stage Piano voice added in. Am I assuming correctly that the piano voice is based on midi channels, and other voices can be selected depending on which channel is directed to which voice? I may try a higher quality midi2usb connection. Can the names on the Casio's usb label be changed or modified, so that I can connect both Casios? Do you have any suggestions? I think this will work once I get the bugs out. Lot's of possibilities. Thank you for your input.
  12. Jose, I see that you've explored the midi capability quite extensively on the CTX series and I appreciate your input. I did get a controller keyboard a couple years ago and it has both USB and 5-pin DIN connections. I've been using it to control a Korg EX800 sound module or the Ignite composition software I have installed on a tablet computer. The Korg uses 5-pin midi but the tablet uses USB, but the controller keyboard can only use 5-pin OR USB at once, at least I haven't gotten both to work at the same time so far. The controller is a older Behringer UMX61 and the manual seems to indicate that both ports are active at the same time. So far I have been unable to have the CTX respond through the USB connection from the controller even after unplugging the 5-pin. Do you or anyone have any suggestions?
  13. By the way the link to the micro.Ghost manual is: www.disasterareaamps.com › micro.ghost-manual.pdf
  14. I was also recently looking into a way to connect my CT-X5000 to my other, older keyboards which all have the 5 pin DIN connections without using a computer. After seeing the post about the Kenton MIDI Host, I tried finding if there were any others costing a little less than the $140 price for the Kenton. As was explained above, a MIDI host is not quite the same as a MIDI expander or interface. A Host translates USB MIDI data into 5 pin MIDI data and can be used to control devices with 5 pin IN, OUT and THRU capabilities. The data should also be bi-directional so that data generated on a 5 pin MIDI device can be transmitted though the USB to the CT-X5000. I was able to find a device by Disaster Area Designs called the micro-Ghost which, from their information, is capable of doing what the Kenton will do for $89. It seems to be configurable using multiple DIP switches. I will post a link to their website below, but I would also recommend downloading a copy of the manual which gives more info on configuring it with the DIP switches located on the bottom of the device. It does not come with a 9 volt power supply though. If anyone has experience with the micro-Ghost, I would appreciate any comments or feedback you could supply. I think I will purchase one and post my experiences here. https://www.disasterareaamps.com/shop/micro-ghost
  15. When you've been in music as long as I have, you collect a lot of stuff. Here's my current keyboard rig. From top of the stand is a Yamaha DX-21 4 operator FM synth, Casio CTK-7000 and the CT-X5000. On the desk is a Korg EX-800 analog synth rack mount module midi'd to a Behringer UMX-61 controller. This is all routed through a 16 channel mixer to studio monitors. Too much stuff. I don't have enough hands, but I got lots of voices.
  16. Brad, thank you so much for being patient with me. Your excellent video showed me the error of my ways. It's amazing how simple something is once you know how. I'm sorry you had to go to such lengths to educate a newbie like me, but I think your video will help others in the future. Now I am able to explore some of the downloads from forum members much more advanced than I. This forum is great! Thank you once again.
  17. The only way an idiot like me could do this is to have step by step instructions. I thought I could load the tones into user tone slots, but I can't do that. I can locate each tone and select a user slot and according to the manual, once I have the tone selected I should press WRITE and REPLACE should appear, but nothing happens. I tried the section "To Copy A User Tone". Selecting a tone on the stick and holding down RECORD/STOP. Nothing! I am at a complete loss. Evidently it's too much for my feeble brain. I just worry that I won't be able to understand or correctly follow the instructions in the manual in order to use any of the other functions. I know how to save a particular set-up to a Registration, I've done that. But with this, I keep trying different variations on the instructions in the off chance that I might stumble on the correct procedure, but no luck. Thanks anyway.
  18. Brad, I appreciate all your assistance and patience, and I have followed your instructions, but it still doesn't work. My MUSICDAT folder only contains the files in order from top to bottom: .DS_Store, FullBar.TON, FULLBARC.TON, GospOrg.TON, GOSPORGC.TON, JS Org 2.TON, JS OrgC2.TON, ORGAN1.RBK and RokOrg 1.TON. The sequence I used was: FUNCTION (enter) MEDIA (enter) LOAD (enter) TONE (enter) at this point the display reads: 001FULLBARC. When I press ENTER at this point, the display reads: 806 No Data. If I press ENTER at this point the display reads: Sure?. Pressing YES at this point the display flashes WAIT momentarily then it says COMPLETE. In a few moments the display changes to: 806 FullBarC. If I turn the dial as if I were changing voices, 806 FullBarC is displayed in 801, 802, 803, 804, 805 and 806. None of the voices from the MUSICDAT folder exist in any of the 16 Registrations. If you can spot what I am doing wrong, let me know, but you've spent far too much time helping me with this issue and and it still doesn't work, so I'll just quit on it. There are a lot more things I can do with this keyboard and the factory voices are more than I need to work with. Thank You!
  19. When the original file was unzipped, the 2 folders (_MACOSX, and CTX_Organs) were unzipped into the MUSICDAT folder as subfolders. I opened the CTX organs folder and all the TON files were contained within. Should I open the CTX Organs file inside the MUSICDAT folder. Should I also open the _MACOSX folder as well?
  20. Yes, that ALL_DATA.DAL was my own saved file since before I updated the firmware to 1.07, I was instructed to Save > All_Data. I tried the Media>Load>Tone, but as soon as I pressed Enter at Tone I got Err_NO FILE, it went no further. I tried Media>Load>RegMemBK and got the same results. Is it possible to load each of the TON files separately into the User Tone locations?
  21. I don't know what I'm doing wrong. Starting over, I deleted everything except the MUSICDAT folder from my thumb drive, then I unzipped the CT-X organs file into the MUSICDAT folder. I only got 2 folders, (_MACOSX, and CTX_Organs). This time there was no ALL_DATA.DAL file in the MUSICDAT folder. Before I started over, I followed your instructions to use the Load > All Data menu option (this was while there was still an ALL_DATA.DAL on the thumb drive). The display said WAIT and then COMPLETE. I then went through all the 16 Registrations and nothing had changed. The organ tones were not in any registration bank. That's when I decided to start over from scratch, but now there is no ALL_DATA.DAL on the thumb drive at all. I tried to unzip the file a number of times with the same result. So I tried Function > Media > Save > All_Data. I then checked the contents of the MUSICDAT folder and now the ALL_DATA.DAL was present along with the other two folders from the unzip. Now I tried loading using the All_Data option as you instructed and again no organs on any registration. I know I'm doing something wrong, but what? I hate to be a pest on this, but I think this is something important that I need to learn.
  22. When I unzipped the CT-X Organ file above into the MUSICDAT folder, it expanded into 2 folders (_MACOSX, and CTX_Organs) and one file (ALL_DATA.DAL). When I tried to load data from the USB flash drive (Function > Media > Load > RegMemBk) the display says "Err No File". Did I miss something? Should the 2 folders and the one file all be in the MUSICDAT folder on the thumb drive? When I open the CTX_Organs folder, I see all the .TON files (7). Should the CTX_Organs folder be opened in the MUSICDAT folder, in as much as there is only the ALL_DATA.DAL file for the 5000 to see? Also, how can you direct the organ tone files to a specific registration bank? This maybe normal due to the thumb drive being 32GB, but when I go to Media the display says "Mounting", which lasts for maybe 30-40 seconds before going to Load. Is that due to the size of the flash drive? I am looking forward to exploring Mike Martin's organ files and many of the other member created tones in the Download Section, once I learn how to do it correctly. This Forum is a wonderful tool to help explore all the possibilities available in the CT-X5000. I appreciate the help.
  23. So the CT-X5000 does recognize files with the .mid extension. I'll give it a try. Files with the .smf extension are MIDI files as well, are they editable on the 5000 or do they have to be created on the CT-X. Thank you for all your assistance.
  24. This file was created years ago (not by me) using the pretty cheesy GM voices. I was hoping that through a DAW or the CTX5000 itself, I could replace the GM voices with voices of the CTX, change the tempo, or maybe add another part. A lot of my experience with MIDI is from the '80s, primarily to interconnect the 3 synths I used in performance back then, so I have a lot more to learn in order to utilize the possibilities of MIDI available. LadyMadonna.mid
  25. I have a number of old MIDI songs which have the .mid extension. The CTX5000 does not recognize .mid files but it does recognize MIDI files that have the .smf extension. Is there a way to convert .mid files to .smf files?
