  1. I do play along with a friend on wedensdays. We play mostly older rock but a bit of other stuff. Those great masters are " on every corner ,when you're trying to get home"ha ha.I have a couple channels on you tube about 400 vids.I get play and atta boys here and there. This xw had me going back to my other devices .Learning about filters, LFOs, waves ,I am finally grasping what they do a bit.I would love to use them'' all'' in a tasteful' incognito way. I am thinking this route for a minute. My old CTK 691 ,pushing my old roland jv1010 midi tones module ,anyway this thru a vu meter into the instrument in. solo synth.Possibly I will have synth filter capabilities on ALL tones.Keeping a clean audio might be a joke though By the way I think every one should be forced to play 1 polka per show,to keep them humble.
  2. Thanks JM Those are metal on the fingers. I play a bit of many genres myself. But heavy duty jazz never reached out to me. My problem not theirs. I really like mixing things up ,I should have started on keys in my youth
  3. That be Don Wayne Reno, following in the footsteps of his father. Not sure on where "paying the ticket'' fits in though.
  4. I went back and looked m 10 you are right that it isn't right, but more the fought of the lack of getting it in the right place, not the arp .I will try ''more'' if it will keep me from getting relegated to a bluegrass oom pah Thanks Brad ,don't know the tone ring on the bottom one Vega type? What is the brand on your masterclone
  5. I really am not looking to have a bluegrass vibe, but thanks.I have just had this synth for a couple of months so I am feeling my way around .I would like any and all suggestions but in the taste realm it is probably wasted, I liked it so there it is.Next time I will be into something else probably. As far as appeal I think little about that at this stage of my journey. Thanks for being friendly m10
  6. I actually used the trance arpeggio in the middle. All tones were the casio xw. Recorded on a consumer grade tascam stand a lone recorder. A three tune medley of string band standards
  7. I found it thanks to member T's advice here and trial and error . I had to go to performance/ midi edit and make sure good ole part 10(drums) was on.
  8. Thanks Brad ,I don't really want that ,so much as just looking for tidbits to ''figure'' the exact flow out. Is there any way to get step sequencer to midi out to the sound module . .I tried switching to channel 10 but to no avail,I set all midi outs I could find to'' on''.Pulled off an msb -lsb bank select until my 50 choices came up short to the 128 on the other but not really bothered there either. As mentioned I am hoping to get the step seq out and maybe after that utilize the performance mode on the roland
  9. When I hooked them together CTK midi out to xwp1midi in Then also xwp1 was hooked to th jv 1010 sound module. Here are discoveries so far.All are set to basic channell 1 The ctk has some cool auto accompaniment and and the ability to record about 6 original songs. It comes through the xw to the analog output. The feed from the ctk can be addressed in the xw's mixer setting. If I remember correct, they were part 6 thru 10.The only drums were on the good old dedicated part 10. I can play a note on the ctk and bend it with the xw. The feed from the ctk seems to be using the instrument parts on the xw which has a lot more wow factor. The ctk's own tones are definitely not heavy hitters but I love the waterfall keys ,and It has synth ,song recording, drawbar organ etc. etc.Hooked to the more modern equipment it has been quiet useful . Now to what has me confused. If i plug the ctk into the roland straight, the roland plays the accompaniment. But it does not go thru the xw to get there. As a matter of fact ,the only thing the xw does is plays patches on the roland JV The million dollar question? Is there some way to route the feed from the ctk and even better the xw step sequencer to the roland module.
  10. I got it .Step sequencer all steps turned off ,just leaving external in sounding ,but evidently note on note off gets thrown to the common block ,which throws it to osc 5.. The clock settings are working on the e gs
  11. It looks like I can MAYBE hit external block 5 with note on note off as a vitrual controller ,but I have not did much of that. What would I use as a source?
  12. I tried the step ,the other night But I may try it again. I will have make sure it's osc is on,thanks
  13. Using audio in on my P1.I can get it to work but with threshold settings, and gain settings galore , it is always hit and miss .It is only good with lots of time to spend at each session. I need to hit a note put the note on hold and sync the triggers to tempo WITHOUT the required hit a key again each time . I am thinking I can get my CTK 691 going on some auto accompaniment pattern, narrow it down to one note hitting on the beat and turn it's volume down . Then I will try to hook the 2 up after this. Sure would welcome some know how on this. I will be in the range of 100 to 150 BPm and hoping to trigger once or twice.
  14. I am not sure about this being a newbie, but last night I wished I had copy and paste on envelope settings
  15. LED meter on the inputs or outputs would help me,
  16. If I set one of these to 127 is there a millisecond equivalent . If so 1 would they all be the same 2 would 64 be half that long 4 would all 18 envelopes be the same thanks tom
  17. This thread is strictly concerning using the syn as an effect processor. Newbie here again. I have my external input figured pretty good .I am staying in solo sync.Adding effects or not.Creating tones and performances without accidentally erasing them ha ha. I know my way around on the envelopes and the few effects it has. It seems the envelopes are going to be a good place to piddle. I have tones for each envelope created. Pitch follow on one.No pitch follow on another. Anyway here is the question. My usual way ''when stacking tracks''on my digital recorder is this. The recorder puts forth clock out . I set a tempo on it. My other processors either receive clock in or I do the math and punch it in. The xw so far is doing best withr external trigger. According to Alen I do not get a true envelope retrigger when I sync to clock. I have not touched the virtual cc buttons yet because I would be back to square 1.I really don't need to slave to my recorder but I would like to set the tempo, push a button, hit a key on hold ,then get a retrigger on the beat. .Is there a way? Thanks Tom
  18. I just went through hours trying to run down unwanted distortion with my new xw-p1.It has the same set up. I was hitting the instrument in'' too hot'' but no knobs were maxed out. hint hint all my other things have leds that let you know. Since I am woodshedding on the inner workings there are umpteen gains and volumes,, so it was a bit like the rubick's cube ,but I found it. It was line level out of my mixer .I was coming out of the'' monitor send'' so I had no warning there either. Personally if I was coming out of an earphone jack I would have the volume really low about 3 and go into the line in.It is what they call an impedance mis match still but that is the'' best way'' that I have gotten by with in the past. On my mixer this will work with the earphone volume high but will jump really quick. It is better to boost the signal elsewhere.
  19. I have watched Mike, thanks anyway ,I am almost there getting this figured out. Alen K's book has helped but also about a week of punching , looking ,writing down .,I have one Performance tone combo created that is acting just right in solo synth.I can come into the plug put the key on hold and start enveloping and add an effect, . The notes are not changing keys. That is what I need for idea one. Idea 2 was having the same ability on the signal with envelopes and an effect .Where it differs I want to have the key follow 64 on the pitch. This i think is possible I just have not got there yet. This quest is all I have until I get this under wraps and make some ruined music. Of course there was always making a Margaritaville performance with steel drums, calliope and piano, then using the mixer sliders to punch them in .and out at appropriate times. Basically I am feeling out the edits in Performance tones and mixer,I am leaving the LFO off, but adding effect to make sure I can tell the difference when I am in.
  20. I will try Brad Setting 1 I want to plug into it with an instrument and will not be using the keys to play notes . I don't want any other things sounding at this point ,just effects, envelopes ,LFOs etc. on the external line. I want to use it as the ultimate effects processor. I will use this setting live and also in ''stand alone'' recordings Setting 2 Run a loop into it,that i can play like a keyboard tone , normal pitch shift here(key follow64} I need to know the best performance to punch in on each setting. Thanks Brad
  21. I posted my history on my page .I bought this a week ago and have been burning the midnight oil ever since. It took me a week to get logged in here. I was really looking forward to being able to access Alen K's book and I am tickled to death but overwhelmed .Mostly I am thankful. What I have read and comprehended has reinforced suspicions .One being even in tone mode the performance setting has strings attached. My first attempts( beyond calling up presets and playing the keys) are these 1 I want to plug my banjo etc. mixer channel out to the instrument in. This would'' not'' need to change pitch with the keys ,I would just want to use use all those bells and whistles on an external source. I know'' basic mic'' in the solo sync preset tone does this but the problems i have with this is It is a tone and i don't know which performance to pick. '' Basic mic"" also disables external source in the mixer. Any suggestions would be helpful. I can create a user performance or tone if needed. Also is playing a key and hitting hold going to let the oscs etc cycle? 2 For the kid in me ha ha,I want to hook my CD looper up to the same input and do the same as above except I would want keyfollow 64 on this. that does it for now ,I have a toy to play with and a book to read several times . Thanks Tom 🧐
