  1. btw the funk preset --seems to have fit some of this
  2. I usually go to my XW-P1 because I love the Solo synth--Hex Layer builds and Step Sequencer ease of operation--but I am slowly getting around to the Ctx--because of it's rhythms and tones--it is like Casio has taken what they already used on my old ctks etc.and expanded I play the banjo first track-then hunt and peck the rhythms trying to find a good fit--sometimes (most times} I do just play my own lines
  3. found it Mclandy --sure enough says 1 means off thanks
  4. that did it--so far I have not got it to switch to details mclandy but I need to get that done -- I revisited the manual with curiosity ---the manual was unclear about this---I had no idea first category was really "toggle off)--you guys are a gift I did figure out(guessed) I needed to say 3 beats was what I needed --to get it to give me 4 beat measures ha ha ten four
  5. I had it on play chord 1 so that is probably it Brad-- I ll switch to 2 and holler back the results some time in this evening thanks bunches
  6. thanks guys it is recording the parts--the one element i recorded-works as a user accomplishment--there is a way of isolating a part by itself--that chandler showed --then one simply pushes the exit button to go back to full element== --it sure would be nice to stack tracks on this --4 variations on the drums would help my mixes---I 'll give some thought to the video idea--i could accomplish that i just need to check settings again first
  7. thanks guys --but pre count I turned off-- And I have tried the accomp button long press and short press --got it fllashing for rehearsal -- and played along ==but when I push stop -start to record the accomp icon dissappears and it just sounds the metronome
  8. thanks so much for putting forth so much info Chandler--yesterday I was trying to do some rhythms from scratch--at 4-10 on your create new user rhythms--you have all parts blasting while you add a piano part--I can't find the right setting to do this--all I can get is the metronome to sync too --after I add something to part 2 drum or part 4 chord--I go to part 5 in order to add a new tone but only get the metronome to stack tracks with -I am hoping to find out what my mistake is--thanks in advance Never mind Chandler Brad and Mclandy got me straightened out already--but thanks for your works
  9. I was trying the recording of accompaniment part by part--when watching a tutorial it seemed the instructor could listen to the drum part and bass part while he dubbed the chord part--I can not get any thing to play except the metronome ----- while trying to stack tracks--I can even activate the rehearsal mode --but when i switch to recording I am back to just the metronome all pre recorded are silent If anyone has any information I would be thankful
  10. great --thanks-- this is what I asked for --now to study it --i'll report back
  11. There are about 20 of these settings--I might hit many different chords majors sevenths- dominant sevenths --sixes on and on--I was trying figure how these settings tie into it--It really is ''never shown''--It says the default would probably cover things --but I would rather not go with that first grade level --if I knew what the real concept--that was built into it---it says something about tension chords in one setting--and then one says it adds sevenths-- which are tension chords--one cluster seems to be for bass--another for chord playing --which at least could be tracked correctly to a 4 to 1 ratio on that guess
  12. long time no see guys--I know fair weather friend--I needed banjo time --anyway a question at hand--I think this rig (ctx-5000)can be easier than my drum machine for coming up with rhythms and much more fun--not to mention --the effects drum tone set------ anyway the question at hand In the manual on page 88 is a chord conversion chart--that I don't comprehend--It would take a lot of comparing for me to figure out --what they are trying to get across So if hit the same C2-E2-G2 major chord left hand each time and these settings are set what notes do they produce bass basic bass 7th-f root chord basic chord variation 2 chord variation 3 chord minor Seeing the end result without having to dig it out of the presets may save time and a lot of temper tantrums--thanks for any help--with these laid out I might see what they are losing me on thanks for being here
  13. If all is working fine --I don't do any firmware chance taking--kinda like weighted keys--no doubt more expressive --but I learned my few chops on a CTK--so I don't need them yet--not a correct approach but keeps things smooth
  14. you might enjoy running your "line out" thru a volume pedal== for best results--be sure to get a pedal that accepts line current not guitar level current warning I am not a seasoned pro --by any means
  15. Maybe maybe not --I am hoping to get this one (riders ots) down in a few months--there are some great you tube tutorials---anyway I always loved those electric piano samples ----Just wondering'' which choices'' to go for----- as a setting to store in the banks--the four tones and which rhythm--to be specific--DSP???
  16. Imo you will always be tweaking a bit---If you are striving to switch performances in mid song --you will need to adjust these to match up before hand and save them- PCM volume can be adjusted inside the zones or the first 4 mixer channels-- be sure to save your setting before you switch performance --the mixer has a good visual graph on it's volume setting
  17. btw though I am quiet the novice I will put forth one thing--a big problem to me was making sure an edit was saved--On page 16 of the manual, they mention the exclamation mark--If you edit a tone or sequence -the XW will show it as needs to be saved by showing this mark --once you save it there --if you also want it to become part of the current performance ----you will have to revert back to the performance mode and if you have not gone to a new performance---- it too will also---have an exclamation mark and need to be saved--If you switch to a different performance first --the XW will not save it and lose the mark ----at this point---you will have to relocate the revised item -----within the performance setting again and the exclamation mark will re appear--this time save it------same goes for arpeggios-- step sequences--mixer settings--Always back out the breadcrumb trail and look for the exclamation mark-- I never fooled much with some aspects of my XWs so can;t say for sure--I don't think chains in the step sequencer are saved to a performance --but won't bet money on it-- the exclamation mark -the exclamation mark
  18. I have done a few attempts --on the laptop to make sound fonts---they do take time --
  19. Solo synth is a powerful voice--but I have little ingrained in synth grooves so far--too busy playing all the tones--slow learner here Personally I ignore a lot of in depth programming also--but hex layers is nice for live quick tone switching-- Also simple step sequencer rhythms are easy --their velocity setting parameter on the drums is so much better than the drum machines I have known- punching buttons to add or subtract tones is toooo easy To Me--The filing system on the XW is not that in depth once I learned it's quirks-- However I myself also go where the music takes me and see nothing wrong with extended stay in solo synth land I never use an app to call up changes on mine--I prefer stand alone editing --until I get it where I want it--I'm stubborn to a fault
  20. have you looked inside?not that I know much--But sometimes a continuity checker can find some broken solder
  21. Sad --sad--I have a P1 that I love but that sampler would have been some fun-- Can you say a bit more about the failure and pcb part-what function did it lose? condolences
  22. Sweetwater had some vids up -but no casio in them
  23. I usually just record old school to my outboard tascam-- I am a track stacker from early 70s--The tascam DPO 1 puts out midi clock for automatic click track starting beat 1 with the button push -old habits--hard to break back to the velocity subject I never could get my pads correct on my alesis drum machine ===When I ran across the velocity setting capability on my XW's step sequencer ,I was very impressed-- I have never revisited the alesis's programing --it had settings but they did not do the job== I am definitely looking forward to making some personal rhythms on the CTX-- I do use computer programs on imported wave files --but that is about it--- so far --but who knows--thanks
  24. got my host box in==works like a charm---the xw and ctx are going to be a fun challenge --I am going to have to start using program and bank change something I always turned off--
  25. Yes I could not see much worth while --just punching it in and pecking around--It is going to take some rereading to get all you have said mclandy but-- it won't be wasted -- I have already delved into rhythm creation --- a question to anyone I have on this is --are these mostly to be used with velocity switching another subject that I ignored --when Alen K was kind enough to write about--thanks PS I just revisited an Alen K companion article on velocity switching in hex layers -of course we are not in hex layers here ==but similar --he says that when playing live -specific velocity points were not even possible for the best of plastic ivory ticklers--so that falls into a programming at leisure scenario-
