  1. I can reproduce that. It is not a bug, it's a feature ;-) It was the same on all my Privia Pianos before. But on the PX5S you can program "Generator off" for each Zone. This will have the same effect, and is accessible via one key. Now with this configuration the StageSetup does not sound. If you want to use it for the internal sound, you must not reprogramm the StageSetting, you can simply connect MIDI OUT to MIDI In. The only restriction is, that some parameters (reverb, pan, chorus) will not be send via MIDI.
  2. The second method is using the SongSeqencer. Put the phrase in a song, and you will be independent from a stage setting. It is not necessary to edit Stage setups. You can use a 4 Zoned StageSetup plus a full drum track from the Songsequencer It is all described in the drum pattern thread http://www.casiomusicforums.com/index.php?/topic/4283-drum-patterns/page-2#entry6399 Or simply download the example http://www.casiomusicforums.com/index.php?/files/file/36-1ntitle/ and replace the patterns with that one you like. In SongSequencer you have to set the amount of repeatings. It does not play endless. This is the only restriction I hope that one of us will soon upload some standard drumloops ready converted as phrases and we could use the SongSequencer as a drum partner. It is just a (diligent but) routine piece of work. Ralf
  3. Yes you are right. It is a cool effect and you must know which level you need after pressing the pedal. Therefore you have 2 volume levels, like the normal soft pedal, but with a configurable 2nd level and a adujstable time from level 1 to level 2. Maybe usefull for a fade out. I have not programmed that, but it is your idea. So it would be helpful if you describe the steps to get that effect. But you can not emulate a real volume pedal, which you can use to adjust the volume in 128 steps depending on the angle of your foot.
  4. Brad: What do you mean with "Volume envelope"? Pedal 2 is just a switcher and can not operate as Volume pedal CC7 or CC11. I have testet that by plugging a volume pedal to the jack and I were not able to use it to control the volume. Sorry but this is not supported. The normal function of the 2nd pedal is a damper (soft) which reduces the volume with a fix value, but I think this is not what tylywt was asking for. The Volumen pedal normally has 3 contacts and the Pedal 2 Input only has 2 contacs.
  5. You can use one of the sliders for volumen control instead. I think this is one of the feature which 5 justifies the "Pro" You will not feel remorse. It is like a single cloud on the blue heaven. We have almost everything we need and this for a very low price. You have saved money to add an external equipment like Behringer FCB1010, Rocktron Midi Mate or MIDI Solutions Pedal to MIDI Converter or the Digitech Control 2 The Midi floor boards offer some other functions but, I don't know they will be able to send the required MIDI Data for changing stage settings on the PX 5S, or command effects on the sounds. Maybe some of the users her own such a board and will be able to report. Ralf
  6. Hi all, here we can collect some tips and tricks and "How To" hints. If the topic already is mentioned in the forum or on Facebook, we should use a hyperlink to the corresponding thread. If the tip is complex, please give a link to the source. If you want to discuss the tips we should use the Facebook group. If we find a better way to describe the topic the owner of the topic could edit his post here in the forum. This keeps tips short. So I start with this item: Howto Rename a StageSetting with the PC-Editor Source 2013-06-13 on facebook I just found out how to rename a stage setting: Use Tab "Stage Setting". There you find the Data selector. Load a StageSetting which should be renamed and then edit the Name in the Edit field right hand side of the Load Data Button. Then you have to press the "Save as User Data" Button. This is the button with a green arrow to a memory chip. There is a "Rename function" for StageSettings on the Editors "Transfer" page when double clicking a setting name. But unfortunately it only works for the left "PC" side and the PC-File name. If you drag it to the right "PX5S" side you will notice that the old name before renaming will be displayed. So if renaming directly on the keyboard is too inconvenient, and you have already launched the editor on your computer, use this workaround to rename a stage setting.
  7. Communication with the device is done by SystemExclusive Data. The documentation you can find here http://support.casio.com/pdf/008/nil%20%28PX5_MIDI_E_ver110_1305%29.pdf You "just" have to use the MIDI OUT / MIDI IN buffer to send and receive Data. Maybe you are able to modify the DataEditor Software. SourceCode seems to be available here http://support.casio.com/download.php?cid=008&pid=1342 Good luck Ralf
  8. "Normal" batteries will have the voltage of 1,5 V. So the keyboard will get 8* 1.5 = 12 V. This is also the voltage of the external power supply. If you use rechargeable batteries, they usually have 1.2 V. (NiMH and NiCd). So 8 * 1,2 = 9.6 V This might be too low for the PX 5S. But in many cases electronic devices still work with a lower voltage.
  9. Mike has rejected this in Facebook forum. I understand that these parameters are tied to the sound. That means: Adjusting 80 for ambience could be on the PX5S much and on your external MIDI device too less. So if this parameter would be send out you would change the sound which was programmed on the external device. In many cases this could be also unwanted. As as decision Casio has selected not to send it on recalling the StageSetup, but to send it on moving an assigned slider, if necessary. So have you tested the second solution if you still need an automatical setting with the songseqencer. It may be an alternative, if you need the sliders for a range. Start recording a new phrase. Move a slider for adjusting the PX5S Level for ambience (or pan). This starts the recording automatically. Stop the record with the record button. Save the phrase. Press Song and Edit. Then press Track Edit Ent Press the INSERT Key (above the Number 1 of Stage Setting) Press Exit an go to Song Mixer After Enter scroll down and setup the prgram Change for your external device Volume pan etc. Delay Reverb ,whatever you need. Don't forget to swich MIDI OUT to "On" Save the "song" and give a name for your external setting. Then press START to "play" the song. Now the external MIDI device will receive the commandos. After that check if the PX5S sounds are still ok. If yes you will be able to play, otherwise call a stagesetup, wich will set the parameters for the PX5S. Please check if this is practicable for you Ralf
  10. Note: A Song of the Songsequencer will send these MIDI Data when it starts. Maybe you can use the SongSequecer to setup your external device with the requested parameters. You only need to assign a very short phrase with one usual MIDI command (e.g. move the modulation wheel). Then instert it for Trac 1..8. Afterwards, you can assign the chorus, reverb and pan to the Tracks, to control your external MIDI device. Ralf
  11. Edit: Now I understand why we have an option to save the "tone". Even if it is saved within a stage setup, it might be usefull to have a tone which you have created for one Zone in another Zone or in a totally different StageSetup. So save the "tone" you have yust created to by pressing "Write" and then selecting "tone" to a userdefind place. Now you can recall a different StageSetup and load that tone for a zone. If you give this StageSetup to someone else, he/she must not have the saved "tone, because all parameters are stored within the Stagesetup. Its is just for transporting all Tone Data to another setup. Correct?
  12. If you connect an external MIDI device to the MIDI out you can play the PX5S internal sounds and/or the external device. If you change the StageSetup on the PX5S you might notice that the sounds on the external device will change too. You can assign the extenal Soundnumber for each zone with the Parameter "edit, Zone Edit, Midi Edit" and the scroll down. Here you have to set "Prog & Bank" to Prg or Bnk (depends on your external device) Below that you will find "Prog & Bank Edit" Press enter and select the Sound Number for your external device. If you later call the stage setting, it will assign the correct soundnumbers. But if you don't want that the sound of the external device will change you have to select "off" for "Prog & Bank Out" This is a setting for each Stage Setup and each Zone which can be turned to "off", if you don't want the change the sound. But there might be a Problem for one channel. If have not changed anything within "SYS Settings" you will probable notice that the external sound will change when you call a stage setup If you go switch the "Prog & Bank Out" parameter to "off" it will still change the sounds on channel 1 depending on the stage setup number. The reason is a command which is send out before the Program Change Message. This command selects the StageSetup on a external CasioDevice. But if you have no compatible Casio Device connected unfortunately it changes your sound. Workarround: To prevent this go to SYS SETTINGS, MIDI, Scroll down and select "Basic Chl" and change it to 16. In this case the "Stage Set.Chg" which is described on Page E40 will be transmitted to channel 16 which is in most cases not used. Note Even with this setting the extenal sounds change if you use the keys "-/No" and "+Yes" The manufacturer will say: This is not a bug "IT'S A FEATURE" @Mike please add a new requirement for the next firmware: The Parameter "Stage Set. Chg" must have the additional value "off"
  13. Yes I can reproduce that behaviour. I guess it is a bug. It works like a the stagesetting filter for MIDI OUT. Maybe Casio thought the values for the controllers should only set the internal sounds and you want to have different Chorus/reverb settings on the external MIDI device. But in fact If you have assigned a knob or slider the information will be send via MIDI If you use the zone with "Gen Out = off" or the whole keyboard completely in "local-off" mode, it makes no sense to filter these settings. So this is a topic which should open a ticket to Casio for the next firmware to fix --> The settings for Controllers #Bx which are assigned to the zone have to be send via MIDI , when a StageSetting is recalled @Mike would you do that for us? Workarround: Use the slider for the requested parameter (reverb, chorus) and set the range to the requested value. Min = Max = your requested value (You can assigen two parameters to one slider !) If you have recalled a stage setting just move the slider a bit, and you will get the requested value Best regards Ralf
  14. The signal passes the compressor. For testing you can bypass it with the new firmware. look inside the partners of the master compressor and turn threshold to a higher level
  15. At the moment I am not sure, if the Stage Setting tansports even the tone data. So when you press "Write" , you can select "Stage Setting" or "Tone". What is to do if you have modified the "tone"? In the discussed StageSetting it uses Hex U 50 for Zone 1. This is a Hex Layer with 6 Oscillators. The Name on the Button in Zone 1 Tone but if you press the button it is called "Hex E Piano1" . I am a little confused. I guess this was the template where the user started to modify . If the StageSetup transports the changed Tone Data, for what do we need to store them separately?
  16. The Keys Keyboard picture in the Editor should have Numbers. (C0, C1, C3 which is the middle C) It has more than 88 keys and so it is not clear where I am. In the discussed Stage Setting you will see Zone 1 for more than an octave, but on our keyboard it is only one key usable.
  17. The PC Edition 1.0.0 crashes sometimes when using the "Save to File" button within the Tab "Stage Setting".
  18. I just found out how to rename a stage setting on the pc Editor. Use Tab "Stage Setting". There you find the Data selector. Load a StageSetting which should be renamed and then edit the Name in the Edit field right hand side of the Load Data Button. Then you have to press the "Save as User Data" Button. This is the button with a green arrow to a memory chip. Normal parameters are send directly to the keyboard when you change it in the pc editor, But the name will only be transmitted within a whole data dump
  19. Hi all, we find in the download section 2 Files for "Ain't Nobody" from JimmyJames and IM29 And one phrase "JK's Sweet L2" For better understanding install the phrase from Jimmyjames and the StageSetting fom IM29 I tried to install and had some problems. I am not one of the 2 uploaders, but I think is a good idea to discuss here which problems we have to import such files to our keyboard and learn about the restrictions of the editor. If you install the file from IM29 http://www.casiomusicforums.com/index.php?/files/file/49-aint-nobody/ you will notice that 1. The filename contains HTML code for characters Aint't Nobody.3 ist displayed as Ain&39;t. Nobody 3.ZPF. ---> So we should not only use standard characters. 2. The uploader IM29 tried to rename the StageSetting within the PC Edtior. When I installed it on my keyboard the Name was "JK's Sweet L2" Unfortunately renaming in the PCEditor or the filename does not rename the StageSetting Name if you transfer it back to the keyboard. ---> We need a fix for the PC Editor. This must be a known bug, because I found in the manual, that renaming does not rename the Names inside the keyboard. I had a look inside the file and found the "JK's Sweet L2" inside, but not "Ain't Nobody". So it must possible and we demand a fix! @Mike Would you please assign this to the Casio testmanager. Thank you. 3. It was unclear where to put the phrase in. The Stage setting has just pointers to the Number, where the phrase is located to the piano. In the ZPF file it points to U-102. So If you want to put the ZPH file (the Phrase) to a different locaton, we can do this, but then we have to edit the stage setting Now: Where should the phrase be used? I think it was made for ZONE1 And it is a Arpeggio phrase. -> The assignment U-102 was made for Arpeggio. This you can see, if you press the Arpeggio Button long If you had put the phrase somewhee else (in my case I put it into 111) I corrected it there to 111. Now you have to turn off the button "phrase" and then turn on the Button "Arpeggio" and press the Button SYS Setting at the same time, so that you'l get the HOLD function (Arpeggio flashing) Now if you press the lowest key on your keyboard, the arpeggio should be heard. If you had used the StageSetting filter for Tempo, you have to adjust the Tempo to 200. Now you can play the Zone 2 in a small range above the lowest key with a string sound. From e-1 upwards there is a clavi sound up to G2. Above that key you hear nothing if you play on these key. IM29 has configured that for playing an external MIDI device. I wondered why we have several places to assign phrases and found out. The Phrase which you select in Stage Setting, Common Edit, Phrase, assigns the number you get if you press the "PHRASE" button. The PHRASE Button will play phrases only for ZONE 1 (correct me If I am wrong) The Arpeggio Button can be pressed long. Then you will be able to select a phrase or arpeggo for Zone 1 - 4 by pressing the Zone/Part/Track -+ Buttons. This setting you will also find if you press Edit, StageSetting, ZoneEdit, Controller Edit, (scroll down) and then Arpeggio Select Scoll down and there you will find the "Arp Phrase Numb" and the Name "Ain't Nobody". Same you will find in the EditorSoftware, but on the StageSetting Tab and "Zone" Tab you must scroll down to "Arpeggio" The Phrasesetting , which you find on the "Common" tab, corresponds to the phrase number which is mentioned above (Zone1 Phrase) So we have a very complex machine, but mighty! Maybe IM29 could use the SongSequencer to record a 3 track demo, for the song. This would be a great demo for the capacities. Best greetings from Ralf
  20. Update to the problem that the tempo of a song changes if you select a different Stage Setup. I found out today that this behaviour can be prevented by the "Stage Setup Filter". If you go to"Sys Settings, General, Stage Set Filter" you will find the parameter "Tempo". Switch it to "On". This prevents the tempo been changed if you select a different stage setup.
  21. Yes of course, but you were asking how to record your voice on the USB Stick which plugs into the PX5S. It is recorded on one track in WAV File format together with the internal Sound. Your idea of using a DAW just for amplifying the mic is curious, and I would not recommend this, but lets discuss it. If you plug the Microphone to the "Mic In" of your computer and insert the "AudioOut" or "headphone out" of your computer to the AudioIn of the PX5 you will get a higher level for the microphone and would be able to mix and record it with the PX5S. But your soundcard must be able to "monitor" the input signal directly to the output. It is an more expensive variant to amplify a microphone with the computer but also possible. This soundcard normally will be blocked by this function and additionally can not be used by the DAW software. So if you have a DAW Software, you must have a independent second AudioInput for the computer, because the first AudioInput and AudioOut are used for amplifying the mic. If your computer has 2 independent AudioInputs your DAW Software will be able to record voice and Sound from the Keyboard on the second entry and you would not need the USB recording function on the PX5S. Ralf Ralf
  22. The question is aswered here. Use a 6,3 mm jack. But you will find in most cases the mic will be too silent. So use an preamplifier. The cheapest I found is this one. You will able to mix an external MIDI device with your voice and then connect it to the PX5S. An other cheap alternative is the Behringer MIC100. There is a video review . But I suggest a better one with an internal effect for your voice, because you can not use the internal hall for audio which comes into the PX5. These signals only pass the equalizer and compressor. To get voltage for an external amplifier it may be possible to use an USB 1->2 adapter. You can also get voltage from the batteryslot. Here we have 7 V. But I don't know an adapter for that. This would be a cludge. You will have to know how much power consumption you need an be sure that the USB Port of the PX5S will offer that. Ralf
  23. The Inputsignal must have LINE Level. A Microphone does not provide this much higher level. You have to use a preamp. This will help you to adjust the level of the voice. Under special conditions you are able to use the Audio In with a dynamic microphone. It is not made for microphone input, and the internal sounds must be lowered. I would not recommend such configuration, but it will work as as workarround if there temporary is no pre-amplifier present. - test a dynamic microphone which needs no phantom power. - put it to the left audioinput (L/Mono) to have it centered. - press SYS- Settings and select Generator and then "External Volume" : Here turn it to 127 (maximum) - press exit until you can edit the volume of your sound. - If the mic can be heard, but is still to silent in comparison to the sound you play, then try to reduce the volume of your sound - For this you also use the stageSetting Edit meno or Mixer menu which you find on "SYS-Settings Generator and then select "Mixer Part 1-16": - There you have to adjust the "Volume" of the used parts (1-4 ore more if you use the Songsequencer) to a low value. -> In my case i had to turn it down from 127 to about 30 to have about the same level as the microphone. Again: It is not recomended, because you have to edit each stage setting for 1 - 4 Zones, but glad to know it is possible. There maybe products on the market like a DI-Box which transform the low mic level to a higher. But normally you need an active preamp. Ralf
  24. Hi, For example I have used the Audio-In to record a Mp3 Song which came from my smartphone on the USB stick. (YES, it samples the Audo IN Signal to a WAVE file on the USB stick!) Then I was able to play the redorded Song during the exercise hour with my band without putting a cable to the PX5S and looking for a place to put the phone on. The Signal on the Audio-In goes through the equalizer and compressor (of the PX5S) to the Audio-Out and will be mixed to the internal sounds. If you use an external MIDI Expander, you do not need a mixer. The Output of both devices will be under control of ONE Level knob for you and you will only need one (stereo) cable to the main band mixer. Ralf
  25. It is not necessary to use an external event editior. Within the DataEdtior for the PX-5S they implemented an "Event Filter" i guess exactly for those problems. Near the field where you selected channel 10 to filter the drum track there is a pull down menu. Scroll down an select CC007 Volume and press the ">>" Button. If you notice more problems you should add other filters. Then drag the file to convert again, and then use the "Transfer" option to send it to the PX-5S. Ralf
