  1. I hate these kind of problems !! Brad, on your tip, I checked the line inputs, and heard a similar (low left channel volume) issue as was seen on the aux in, with external signal on line inputs... Then tried another cable set...no change. Ok now what...so, hoping it wasn't something on one of the system boards....turned off unit (had already previously turned on/off a few times), disconnected the 12 volt power cable. Plugged that back in. ...problem disappeared...(now audio level on Aux In and Line In are relatively close)....as would be expected... ...did this a couple more times - powered down, unplugged, plugged the 12V back in...issue has not returned ?? a little bit of a mystery, however things now appear stable.
  2. Have not plugged something into my 'Audio In' jack for a while (MP3 player, Tablet rhythm track App, etc.) Now, while monitoring/w thru a headset, seems like I'm only getting audio in the right headphone. Keyboard tones are OK, 'stereo' in the headset, I have tried both an MP3 player and also an small external mixer....using 2 different cables, swapped cables (R/L) on the mixer. Issue seems to remain with very low audio in left headphone ear - plug/unplug at audio in jack doesn't seem to change. I've been routinely in and out of the PC editor, and also changing configurations via the Keyboard controls/LCD screen. Is there some sort of Pan R/L or gain adjustment for the 'Audio In' jack and signal...that I might have somehow disturbed. ?? ...didn't spot any option in the editor to adjust parameters for audio in signal...nor in the PDF manuals <clue> - I have reassigned one of the knobs to adjust external (audio in) volume ??
  3. Is there a way of getting a third output on the PX-5s? Want to use Right/Left outs for Rhodes (stereo) settings, ....but also would like to see if I can route a Stage setting zone that has (left hand) bass patches to another output ??
  4. I've been working on a Rhodes type sound and Stage Setting that presently is quite 'Mono'. (as heard thru a stereo headset or monitor speakers) I need to make it 'wider', richer, fuller sounding tone. As an example if you toggle thru the stock 'Electric Piano' tones: Tone 'P013 Elect Piano5' is VERY Mono Tone 'P014 Digital EP1' has a fuller, broader, wider sound What effects could be applied to a 'mono' sounding tone like P013 to make it have the fuller, broader sound? Is it some sort of editing within the Stage Setting, or within the Tone? Some sort of Pan or 'stereo' type adjustment? (I'm pretty familiar with the use of the editor - could not seem to find the adjustments that might accomplish this)
  5. Haven't spotted this in the manual. With a SPLIT configured, loaded up - an EP on upper section of keys, and a Fretless style Bass on left. I would like to kick up the EP layer volume a bit, since the bass tone seems to be much louder. Is there a way of adjusting the volume for a layer? ...or do I need to try to adjust to compensate using one of the EQ settings?
  6. For a compact portable speaker I use the Roland KC-110 which has 'stereo' sound. US street price is around $350. It's only 30 watts, but very cleanly deliver a good acoustic piano or mellow EP sound in a small room. With this limited power, the low end does fairly well (in a small room) with a Bass split...(however, pushing the volume can get the amp to break up a bit on Bass). The KC110 can be battery operated (sim. to 5s) for busking; although power is limited to 20 watts. - amp also has XLR for vocal input. I do single, duo gigs in small venues....I ALWAYS bring this amp and also an Ibanez compact Bass Amp (300w) to fill out the 'bottom' of the sound, which I can slave to the KC-110. These will totally fill out the sound in a small club. For me when gigging, bringing two Amps is key (provides for backup), since I had one fail a while ago...and was able to get thru gig with the other. Same issue with Keyboards on 'decent' gigs. I have a backup PX-5s that stays in the van ( I have my 5s is so customized with tones/stage settings that my backup board HAS to be another 5s)
  7. 'Brad' wanted to thank you for the tip...did note there were a few steps I had to go thru to end up assigning DSP parameter 'DriveRotary- Fast Rate' to a slider...so I thought I'd note them all here for those wanting to make similar settings. Clarification on ...assigning a slider to adjust the Fast Rate for Drive Rotary – Rock Organ 1 1) Use the <zone/part/step> track buttons to display the zone description for the zone that requires the slider/knob assignment setting: e.g. Zone 3 – tone Rock Organ 1 2) With Zone 3 selected, press edit>stage setting>common edit>, then scroll down to the knob/slider number that needs the particular knob/slider assignment: e.g. Slider 5 3) Go back to the <zone/part/step track> buttons and toggle T1/T2 (the Targets) in the display to see choose the slider target that will receive the Fast Rate assignment: (note: each slider/knob can control two targets) e.g. Picked T2 - which initially had 'No Assign' 4) Use +Yes/-No buttons to choose the control (CC# or other) to assign to 'T2' for that slider e.g. Select Fast Rate – in order to make assignment to 'Drive rotary-FastRate' 5) Enter Min and Max Values for slider/knob control – range of 'Fast Rate' adjustment using the slider/knob
  8. I'm trying to assign an organ DSP parameter (Drive Rotary - Fast rate) to a Slider. Under the stage setting common tab, as you scroll thru the listing of available 'targets' for a knob or slider you do see a percentage that have a descriptive term associated with the target number (CC74:Cutoff, CC71:Resonance) ..but you see a LOT of targets that are not defined - example. CC80, CC81, DSPParam13 Looked thru the User manual and the Tutorial manual...did not see a table that describes the function of these target numbers (such as CC80) that don't have a clear meaning such as Resonance, Cutoff, Audio volume, External volume. As noted in my first statement I want to make a slider assignment for DSP parameter - Drive Rotary - Fast rate, but there are likely other assignments I will want to make for other DSP functions
  9. Brad/Scott, my suspicions have been confirmed, thanks (I do have a couple of Bass midi modules, but am trying to avoid bringing gear when possible).
  10. I use an Amp that allows a stereo connection...usually connecting 5s right/left line out to the AMP. Have also been porting from that smaller AMP a mono output to a 300W Compact Bass amp....to support the SPLIT zone I use with a Bass sound. Current problem is with the 5s stereo output running first into the smaller amp (where it is 'lined out' MONO to the Bass Amp), the smaller amp tends to 'clip' at higher Bass levels, as the signal is passed thru to the Bass Amp. Can the output from the zone with BASS sound be redirected to another PX-5s output jack so I can run it directly into the compact Bass amp, while running stereo cables from the Line Out jacks to the smaller Amp?
  11. Many EP sounds assign [AMP] setting to slider 2, allowing the EP sound to vary based on the type of AMP selected; Jcombo, Acombo, Mstack, RStack etc. to simulate running the 5s thru a variety of AMP types For many EPs as you move slider 2, in the upper part of the display window you see - AMP [Fcombo], where the bracketed name changes as you move the slider - No Assign is seen just below that in the display In the Editor, for most of these EPs, when you go to see Slider 2 assignment in the Editor (Stage Setting -> Common Settings -> Slider 2), you usually see assignment of that slider to: DSP Param 8 Question: When I try to assign Slider 2 to DSP Param 8 as 'target' in order to be able to select an [AMP] , AMP does not show up in display window after making this setting as I move Slider 2 I have not been able to find in the editor where DSP Param 8 is associated with AMP ?? How can AMP assignment be made for a slider; can this be done for both Tone and Hex sounds? Have tried to look thru tutorial PDF, and forum threads (30+ pages), but did not spot a similar topic.
  12. Dave - A very nice suite of sounds that notably improves the Bass side for split performance with the PX-5s. You did a great job on the dynamics and realism of all the sounds (surprised of the inflection and response you were able to 'squeeze' out of the board). I can see where CASIO might have an interest in your sound pack (whether to release for PX-5s community or possibly port some of them over into the PX-560) - these will surely continue to shore up the PX-5s as a performance board. The current Bass tones shipped with the 5s are OK, but your new tones sound like they will make it 'STELLAR'. Look forward to loadin-em-up ! - either purchased from you..or from a CASIO release.
  13. Dave, appreciate your bearing with my earlier tongue-in-cheek Trilian 'challenge' For Acoustic bass, a sample per your suggestion https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=Hw_O_pH_mhI It would be nice to capture the tone inflection and resonance one hears at around the 1 to 2 minute range ....and an adjustment for longer sustains as heard around 42-45 minutes (slider assignment?; possibly noting in 'pack' how to tweak some of these functions in the editor) ...the 'stock' acoustics on the PX5s, typically have a short sustain/early cutoff I would think one could attach some of these functions in the editor to knobs/sliders, but would likely end up stealing those controls from ( in a split mode) what the player may have selected for the right hand tone (Rhodes/Wurly variation, organ, etc.) I think we would defer to your knowledge of the the PX5s, (and exposure to Trilian products), to come up with a (two?) new acoustic bass variations. Your Jaco fretless sound is great... Look forward to this latest 'pack'
  14. Dave, Your Bass Pack will be a nice addition to the '3rd party' tone/setting files being created for the PX-5s. As with your other Packs (Piano, etc.) - look forward to the release. It's nice that Mike (and company) have rolled out a product that allows 3rd party development of tones/settings, since that encourages growth of the product line (a competition killer!). ...a little bit of a challenge... I saw in some other forum that as part of this release there would be one? Acoustic Bass tone/sound. - may be hard to beat, but here's a challenge: ..if MIke is reading this.....on a next release of a Casio keyboard editor, might be good to have it edit tones/settings for the PX-5s and the PX-560m. Would allow sound developers or players to port over their PX-5s sounds to the 560m (accounting for the differences in keyboard configuration, also allow 3rd party developers to create sounds for either board.
  15. I have two ON STAGE KS 7150 stands (road/home-studio) ...good option for a single board (street price $80 US) https://on-stage.com/products/view/116975#parts I also have this adapter that I use occaionally: .On Stage KSA7575 ..a Mic Attachment bar that work with these stands. ..add a gooseneck, and you don't need a floor stand for a mic. https://on-stage.com/products/view/11983/117177
  16. willf - Based on your suggestions, I decided to go to another one of my other Windows 7 PCs and try to open the Editor (did not connect piano) ….it did load Observations. The XP SP3 PC I tried to initially open the editor on was a Dell Pentium 2.6 Gig machine with 2 Gig Ram…it did not open, ultimately locking the machine The 2nd machine was an Aesus mini laptop with Win 7 and 1 Gig ram….same issue locked up the machine Both of these had my Band in a Box and Korg SV1 editors installed and working; apparently the Data Editor for PX-5s needs more horsepower. My 3rd machine is a 3.3 gig Dell PC with 3 gig memory and a Video card with additional RAM. The editor loaded on that PC. ...looks like the Editor has some minimum requirements for RAM/performance in order to even open…. Now that I’ve sorted this out I’ll wheel the PX5s up to this PC and see if I can fatten up the Bass sounds…..I usually gig out with a PX-350….lugging a Roland Bass/Drums midi module to get the FAT bass sounds for when I use left hand bass….hopefully I’ll be able to tweak the PX5s Bass tones…and eliminate dragging the Roland box. Thanks for your ideas and help
  17. Having troubles getting the data editor to start up/install. Also, the PDF associated with the editor seems to be missing some steps. First step in DATAEDITORPX5-E1A.pdf states for Windows: Display the ‘stage setup selection’ screen. Going thru both the Tutorial and the ‘Basic Users Guide’ – I was not able to find this specific screen or a button that would bring me there. There are obviously ‘stage setting banks’., but no ‘stage setup selection screen’ was noted. This steps implies that if the PX5s is not in this configuration, “you may not be able to transfer or delete data…… Prior to this I believe the Data Editor manual should state: Turn on computer, connect midi cable, turn on PX5s. These steps work, since Windows noted Casio USB driver installed. Problem is: I’ve tried to start the editor on both a Win PC with XP SP3, and also with Windows 7 laptop. I also tried a different USB cable, get the same response noted below: Editor 1.0.0 window pops up, the blue bar goes to about 30% across, then stops. - like it waiting for something. System utilization goes to around 100% - usually have to hard boot PC to get out of this mode. - I downloaded the Editor a 2nd time to make sure I didn’t have a corrupted file…still having the same issue. The PX-5s was updated to firmware 1.1 and otherwise seems to work fine. As noted in step 1) above does the PX-5s have to be at a specific screen for the data editor to completely install ?
