  1. Not sure if this is the answer to your problem, but- when you first get into edit mode of a hex, there is the line that reads "Init By Wave" yes/no. If this is set to "Yes" that means filter/amp/pitch/etc. settings will reset to the point of original programming, upon selection of a wave form. Basically, it will sound like its name implies. If that setting is put to "No", selecting a different wave form will just "adopt" your present settings in the filter/amp/envelopes....... Dan
  2. I had a PX3s at one time - that would send, via MIDI, patch number/volume/reverb depth/chorus depth. Was kinda disappointed that when I got the PX5s, it only sends MSB,LSB,patch number. Maybe program the sound you want as close to the volume you need, then program a slider to work a range of just too soft to just too loud, like 80 - 110 on cc#7. Or, program it to be a little too loud and use a slider for cc#11, using a range that's comfortable for you. Then call up the remote sound and just touch a slider to be real close to balanced.
  3. I think 1.0 to 1.10 added some synth waveforms, but I doubt if you are still on 1.0 - so, short answer - no.
  4. Of course you can! MIDI out of the pedals to MIDI in of the PX. Pick MIDI channel 1-4 for zone 1-4, and put your bass sound on that zone. In the SS, turn the generator off for that zone so the keyboard won't play the bass sound. Adjust octave, volume, tone, etc. and save the SS.
  5. I came this close (thumb and pointer finger being held half inch apart) to getting a second PX5s. I wanted something to keep at home for practicing and writing. I got a PX-350w instead, so I could just power-on and play. Not the greatest speaker system, but I play mostly through headphones (apartment dweller).
  6. I'd love to hear what you could do with brass & horn section sounds. The PX's controllers going after sfz,vibrato types, etc. I just recently got in a situation where I play a lot of brass/horn/sax/sections parts and each song has its own little personality. A couple of stage sets that offer a variety of mixes and playing techniques would be cool. "My assignment to you, Jim, should you decide to accept it........"   7. Keys into mixer-mixer/monitor out to DI/house-mixer/main out to Yamaha DXR10. Mono all around and I do not play at a volume to fill the house, that is what a PA & a sound-man is for. Regards, Dan
  8. elecmuse3 - hi ! We do "At Last" along with "The Basement" as a mini EJ block - prolly add "I'd Rather Go Blind" soon. The problem I had with the Intro was not getting some of the inner voices - and not being able to grab a 10th on all the changes (specifically on the Bb). I play LH bass in this band, so I have the guitar doing the 8ths rhythm - like you.
  9. Thanks again. That's exactly what I ended up doing. You must be a genius, cause you think like me. Now I will do the Intro to "At Last" perfect every time. Just hit that low "A", play little air-keys, and grab that C9 chord at the end. Nobody has to know. Too bad I can't start it some other way - I will be so paranoid about hitting that trigger note.
  10. Thanks, Brad. I thought that must be the case. Is there any way to start the arps other than hitting a key? Can't I assign something else to start the arps, and then play on top of them without re-triggering?
  11. For the life of me, I cannot get phrases I have already recorded, or newly recorded ones, to play back on any zone except #1. Is this the case ? What if you want 2 different phrases playing two sounds in sync, not possible ? Should I be looking at assigning "arps" to trigger phrases ? Thanx in advance - Dan

    I hope this works OK - a zipped file of some SS I use in a left-hand bass situation. Bass sounds are panned hard left, to go to a separate bass amplifier. Right hand sounds & layers are hard right, to go to my stage monitor/DI box. Some are song specific and may not be of use to you. FB = Fingered Bass [couple different ones, one a hex layer.] AC = Acoustic Bass. PK = Picked Bass. SL = Slap Bass [only one, with piano/brass, for "Unchain My Heart"] RH sounds usually have a volume increase on slider 1 for soloing. Any layers are on Zone 2 - that's the channel my expression pedal works on. You can, of course, assign another slider to control their volumes - just so you know that if load up a layered SS, the layer will, at first, be way too loud till you set it up to your liking. It makes a world of difference using a bass amp for the bass sounds. I tried to make the panning as discreet as possible, but there is always FX leaking - not really a problem having reverb/chorus/whatever coming from your main sound into a bass amp - sorta nice actually. And I use almost no FX on bass sounds.
  13. I don't think it matters what SS you start with, a SMF will send patch changes on bank 0, so the PX5 will just use its GM soundset. Now, if you can get in and edit the file you can change the patch bank numbers to access the PX5's own sounds. The banks (MSB) numbers are in the tutorial- pianos=#64,EPs=#65, etc. The hex layers are still limited to Zones 1 & 2, but drumsets can be called up anywhere (like ch.10).
  14. I think General MIDI sounds are bank 0, 00-127. Is that what you are asking?
  15. Create a MIDI device (PX5s - channel 1). Now create midi presets (name, MSB=112, LSB=0, patch=00-99) Assign a MIDI preset to a song. You can have it send the preset with song selection, or when you touch the MIDI icon(s). You can have more than one per song, like a different SS for verses, choruses, etc.
  16. I think the main idea for the two headphone outs was teacher/student, doing "silent" lessons. You could also use them for late night recording - one for the keys player, one for singer/guitarist/bassist- bring the DAW back into 1/8" input somehow. Also, use one phones output to feed a camera input ! Don't know bout cameras, but I imagine a cable that is 1/4"TRS to 1/8"TRS would feed stereo audio from the PX to an audio input in a camera. Now, if you also sing and want to record that too - whole different can of worms.
  17. Sorry, I have no experience with the PX-A100. Perhaps a Casio person can answer that for you. Some things available on the PX5s, that may or may not be on the A100: Global setting for touch response (soft/normal/hard) Hammer response (reproduces the delay an AP has from key strike to hammer strike-can be turned off, too) Velocity sensitivity to the filter and amp (separate settings) These things help make the PX5s feel and respond like an AP. Hope this helps.
  18. 1- No, you're not wrong. I assume your sequencer is some sort of DAW, and they all record MIDI cc's, sysex, etc. The PX5s' knobs/sliders/wheels/pedals can send cc#00 - 99, as well as many other commands. 2 - Too much personal preference involved to give a yes or no answer. I love the PX5s' feel - both action and physical texture. My favorite keyboard since the yamaha S-80 for expressive playing, piano or anything else.
  19. Make sure the PX is not in any edit page or mode. Also, there is no phrase or arp running. Hope that helps.

    Here are two LHB splits for those of us doing this type of thing. The first is a "Fingered Bass" and a bright piano, for Rock/Pop stuff. Both are melody tones tweaked to my liking. Bass is going out the right output, going to a bass amp [ the EQing is set up to sound good in the amp ]. Piano is going out the left, with slider #1 giving an EQ & volume boost for leads. Damper pedal only works for piano. Compressor and master EQ are boosted a little, also - as long as you don't have their settings locked. The second has my attempt at a "SuperBass" - Brad sort of dared me to come up with a HEX bass sound. I have that split with a SaxSection - this is on zone #2, so my expression pedal controls its volume. The bass is supposed to be funky & punchy, without sounding like the Seinfeld theme. I've come up with about 8 different basses and 25 split SS's. Please let me know if you want more of them. Also, feel free to comment and criticize {i can take it].
  22. The PX5S. Mostly the "FingerBass2" tone sent to an Ampeg 115 amp. I use about a half dozen other bass sounds (StandUp,Picked,PianoLayer,Fretless,Slap....) over 35 different StageSets. These are called up automatically with SetListMaker on an Ipad. I have a Roland VR09 for Organ and Synth stuff.
  23. HaHaHa, yeah - as soon as I get in that "mode". Right now it's heavy-duty practice mode. Anyhoo, I'm trying to get a bass in mind, and then go after it in programming. Its gotta be something for the funkier songs we do. Like a cross between "FingerBass2" and some SlapBass character, but not sound like you watching Seinfeld reruns. Know what I mean? We do "Can't Go For That", trying to cop the DarylsPlace/CeeloGreen version. That's a great bass sound (and a super player!)
