  1. Hi Will - The cable holder just rests on the PX-5S - it's a pretty solid block of rubber so it doesn't move on me. It's very handy - it holds the USB and 1/8" stereo cable when my laptop isn't attached and provides a nice mount for the clip-on light. My son got them for me at Target for Father's Day - such a thoughtful lad.
  2. These little clip-on lights are life savers.. I actually use two - one for each side of the board.
  3. Amazing programming, Brad! Dead on - Follow the instructions as written and practice the solo... and die your hair orange... Here's a demo of what it sounds like.. https://soundcloud.com/keyz2401/sweet-dreams-casio-px-5s-stage
  4. I haven't been able to locate a list so if Mike doesn't have one in his archives, I will make one over the next week. There's only 100 so if I do 15 a day....
  5. You are able to use a USB cable to connect it to your computer. This will allow you to record MIDI files using sequencer software and play them back either on the computer or the PX. See page E-24 of the manual... http://support.casio.com/pdf/008/Web_PX130E1B.pdf You can also use an audio interface to record the keyboards audio the same way. If you have any questions about either of these, just ask.
  6. Hi Fargus - yes it is a case of mono vs stereo.. this came up on the FB group. I think Mike suggested using the RIGHT audio out instead of the LEFT/MONO out. See if that helps.
  7. Jeff is an amazing programmer and player! I had the privilege of meeting him earlier this year and he gave me a demo of his XW-P1 sounds. Wow! Just wow... He's a very nice guy, too.
  8. No way! I was hoping you would port that patch to the 5S! :-)
  9. Very dramatic strings sounds. Play staccato in the lower octaves with lots of velocity - nice big reverb.
  10. Yes even aggressive playing can nudge the mod wheel up... One nice thing.. well maybe the ONLY nice thing.. about Roland's pitch/mod "stick" is you can't accidentally get stuck in "mod mode".
  11. Can you email me the files in question as an attachment: scott@px-5s.com
  12. The pedals would be able to help with this as well - someone in the FB group is working on a complex Horn Section patch using both pedals to do swells and dips. Excited to see what he comes up with.
  13. Yes - the velocity switching is a great way to make the timbre realistic.. the real issue is making realistic voicing arrangements. That's where special software like SH is really handy - it maps the chords to the style you select. It's not perfect but it works. I really think a clever programmer could do something very similar on the PX-5S using phrases and key mapping (not sure if that's the right term) - but it would have to be unique for each song/style to pull it off.
  14. Hey we've all been there... I usually have several moments a day. Glad I was able to help.
  15. If you aren't opposed to soft synths, Session Horns by Native Instruments might be something to look at. https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=R9ic4Sb_F20 http://www.native-instruments.com/en/products/komplete/orchestral-cinematic/session-horns/
  16. Wow - that is strange. Let's start with the obvious.. and I apologize if this seems like a no-brainer.. but is the modulation wheel all the way down?
  17. Nice punchy brass patch - good swell on sustained notes.
  18. Mike - I looked at some demos of osc. sync - learned something new. Is that something the XW's can do?- Some of the demos I listened to sounded like the sounds I have been hearing in the G1..
  19. BRAD MX PX: It's best if you find a stage setting that is close to what you need and then modify it for your specific needs. That's real good advice from Brad. I find the one that most matches what I want and then back-engineer by disabling all the layers/zones and working on one at a time. It's also a good way to learn the architecture of the PX-5S.
  20. You may find this a good read... very interesting history: http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Casio
  21. RE: 1 - Please post a YouTube clip of the sound you are referring to and/or describe what you are looking for in more detail. Re: 3 - If you put a .wav file in on a USB drive, you can use the foot pedal to start it- this can be as long as 14 minutes IIRC. You can also put backing tracks on the USB drive and play along to them. You can not play back samples from the keyboard though. Cheers!
  22. I love Casio watches! Here's some "torture test" videos of the G-Shocks... I am going to make some videos like this with my son (he's 9 and loves this sort of thing).. I will be using my old G-shock - not my nice new one! https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=PrYQmRRmCOM https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=NT3v8LN-O2o https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=Se3XFxycEhY
  23. Oh that's a great picture. Is it OK if I use that in the Facebook group video? I will post the video here when it's done.
