  1. Does this happen on multiple USB drives? Multiple different brand names? Or on just one? If this is occurring on just the one device, then your PX is telling you that it can't read it. I'm sorry for stating the obvious. Maybe it's too large for the PX to handle. Maybe it's too small. USB flash manufacturers work very hard to make sure that their devices work with PC's, but not very hard (at al)) to make sure that they work with musical instruments. If this is occurring on multiple devices, then you probably have a hardware issue which would need to be repaired. That's all I've got. Sorry if it doesn't help much. --wpd
  2. Very nice! I'm going to have to pay more attention to the sound when I go to my next lesson. I know it was a lead sound, but I don't know much of anything more than that. Thanks for the help folks! --wpd
  3. I was at my piano lesson last week and asked my teacher what synth sound he had on his two keyboards. He said "Oh, it's a classic Minimoog sound from the 1970's". Does anybody know how to get that sound out of the PX-S3000? Does one of the existing tones come close? Does anybody have a saved registration with the custom DSP tweaks to make that sound? (I guess I could have tried recording the sound on my phone while I was there, and then listened to all 700 tones in the PX-S3000 to find one that matched... but I figured it would be easier (and certainly lazier!) for me to ask here first 🙂 !) --wpd
  4. Oops... I saw "px-s3000" in the question and said to myself, "Oh! I can answer that!", totally missing the fact that the OP was asking about the 's1000. Sorry about that. --wpd
  5. Can you give us some more examples? There are independent settings for the volume for Layer 1, Layer 2, and the lower split. You can adjust those through the SETTINGS menu. Is that what you are looking for? --wpd
  6. Also, the keyboard comes with a sustain pedal... it doesn't come with the fancy SP-34 pedal, but it comes with a basic on/off pedal. --wpd
  7. The metronome volume is controlled by the "Accomp Volume" parameter. See page EN-57 in the manual. --wpd
  8. That's a great question! I don't recall reading about that feature in the documentation... but it could be there and I just don't recall it. What I do recall is that you can press and hold the TEMPO button and tap a tempo on the keys, but that could be difficult to do during a performance. Also, I'm pretty sure that the tempo is stored as part of a registration, so if you had two registrations stored that were identical except for the tempo setting, you could switch back and forth at the tap of a button. This is interesting.... the manual contains this description for the EXPRESSION/ASSIGNABLE jack: "For connection of a separately available expression pedal, the included pedal (SP-3), or a separately available CASIO sustain pedal, selectable function (expression, master volume, tempo, layer balance, sustain (off, on), sostenuto (off, on), soft (off, on), arpeggio hold (off, on), play/stop, fill-in)" That word "tempo" caught my eye... Oh... look at page EN-9 in the manual... you can control the tempo with an expression pedal. That's cool! As I said... that's a great question!
  9. Is your daughter interested in being adopted? It could be a temporary adoption if you both want... just until Christmas or Father's day. 🙂 --wpd
  10. I ordered an SP-34 Pedal Unit for my PX-S3000. Here's a picture of the box it in which the pedal unit arrived arrived. Look closely at the warning label. It says "DO NOT STEP ON" I just received a pedal unit I can't step on!!!! 🙂🙂🙂 That tickled my funny bone. But I have been advised that I have a warped sense of humor. Enjoy! --wpd
  11. My favorite arrangement I've found in the Musescore library is an arrangement of "You Shook Me All Night Long" by AC/DC.... ...for a flute quartet! --wpd
  12. Thanks Mike. I don't see any way for me to delete this thread. I'll leave it up to you and the other administrators whether to delete this as unproductive noise or not. --wpd
  13. Here's what the email from casio@regconfirmation.com said: I just now realized that it said "20%" not the "30%" I mentioned previously. Another victim of the COVID-19 pandemic -- my glasses broke about 1 month in, and I didn't get a new pair until last week. So, when I read it previously, I thought it said "30%". (True story! 🙂 ) I would happily have trusted the Confirmation Number given in the email and not given it a second thought if the discount code and "Redeem Now" links had worked. When they didn't, and when I couldn't get a response any other way, I figured I would give it some time and then ask here. (Some people might claim that I am somewhat forgetful... I choose to say that I am patient). Perhaps this was a scam... but if it was, it was one that I "fell for" by clicking through https://www.casio.com/support/registration/, and if that's a scam, then Casio's infosec and/or legal team should be made aware of it. FWIW, I read the bit about extending my 1 year warranty to 3 years by registering my product in a post on 9/4 in the "POWER ISSUE ON PX S-3000" topic in this forum. If the answers are, "My PX-S3000 is warrantied for 3 years whether I register it or not" and "sorry, there are no 20% discount codes offered by Casio", then I'll call this done, delete this thread (or request that it be deleted) and apologize for the noise. --wpd
  14. I'm sorry to air my dirty laundry here. I will happily delete this post when this gets resolved. But I don't know where else to turn. I finally got around to registering my PX-S3000 a few weeks ago and was pleased to receive a 30% discount coupon for an an accessory purchase. (Aside... I'm kicking myself now for not having done that before I bought the carrying case -- which I LOVE BTW). Anyway, when I tried applying the discount code to purchase an SP-34, I was told that it was invalid. Then I noticed that there was a "Redeem Now" link in the email. I tried clicking on that link and FIrefox told me that there was a security problem with the site. I tried going the through the registration process again and got the same results. I tried telling Firefox to ignore the security violation and that allowed me to visit the site, but the discount code still didn't work. I tried filling out a customer support request form online at the Casio site and nothing happened when I clicked the "Submit" button. (Yes, I checked for error messages and made sure I clicked the "I am not a robot" checkbox). I tried calling Customer Support and got a recording saying that due to COVID-19, telephone customer support is no longer available. I tried emailing Customer support (on 9/30) and received the automated "Your request has been received" email response, but have not heard anything since. I know that his is all COVID-19 related, but I have still have 2 questions/requests: How do I know if my PX-S3000 has been registered properly so that the warranty support is upgraded from 1 year to 3 years? How can I claim the 30% accessory discount code so that I can purchase an SP-34 I don't know if @Mike Martincan help me with this. And I do request that this public forum post be deleted (if I cannot delete it myself) once these two questions are answered. Thanks --wpd
  15. Hi Michael, Welcome to the forum! Chordana Play for Piano requires a USB connection, not a Bluetooth connection. You need a cable that fits in the small square plug on the back of the PX-S3000 (not the rectangular plug -- that is for USB memory sticks only). --wpd
  16. Does anybody mind if we play another round of "How do I make that sound"? Is anybody here familiar with "Hungry Like a Wolf" by Duran Duran? If you're familiar with it, and you have a PX-S3000, do you have any advice as to how I could make that arpeggiated synth sound in the background at the beginning of the song? Which arpeggio pattern should I use? Which synth sound? I've never tried the arpeggiator on my 's3000 (or any other keyboard, for that matter). I'm still overwhelmed by all of the features available to me, but this sounded like a good chance to get to know this feature. Thanks. --wpd
  17. ...and my experience is that the knobs don't affect a newly selected tone.(*) They only have an effect if I change them after selecting a new tone. (*) ... for the parameters that affect tones, like cutoff frequency, resonance, etc... This is not true for parameters that affect the overall sound of the instrument, like keyboard volume. --wpd
  18. If you want to get files onto your computer, I'm pretty sure you will need a USB stick, not a cable. See the "USB Flash Drive" section of the manual. --wpd
  19. That's also a good "pro tip". Thanks! --wpd
  20. Thanks Mike. I thought about changing that at some point, but must have gotten distracted. Good catch! Regardless, the last time I managed to put my keyboard in a strange state I (must have) had unknowingly held down the MODE selector button long enough to put the instrument into "keyboard controller mode". I recall seeing "KC" in the lower right corner of the display. Once I did that, I must have played the lowest F (I play a lot of octaves with my left hand) and started the drum machine.... and then stopped it when I played that low F again. It was right in the middle of a song we were practicing/learning (so nothing was sound great in general) and added to the confusion. At that time, I had forgotten what I read about "keyboard controller mode" and had no idea what "KC" meant. But I looked it up after the gang left. Now I know. So, I'm going with my solution of shutting off the accompaniment features (by dialing the volume down to 0) in all of the registrations I use when I play with the band. They provide all of the accompaniment I need 🙂 By the way... the folks in the band routinely comment on how nice the sounds produced by this keyboard are. They have all played in a lot of other bands with a lot of other keys players over the years and they can't believe quality of the sounds produced by this mid-range instrument. (And I am still enough of a novice at playing in a "rock band" to assure you that they are absolutely complementing the instrument and not the playing thereof.) --wpd
  21. I came up with a partial solution and/or tip with regard to this issue last night. I looked in the FUNCTION Parameter Settings (pg EN-57 in the manual) and saw that there was a setting for "Accomp Volume". I dialed that down to 0 and confirmed that if I accidentally (or intentionally) press the ACCOMP button, I no longer get strange sounds out of my keyboard. In fact, I get no sound at all from the notes below the split point, but I would prefer that over getting unexpected sounds, especially during a gig. Similarly, if I accidentally (or intentionally) tap the START/STOP button, I don't get an inadvertent drum machine playing over whatever I was attempting to play (and distracting the drummer and guitarist in the band). I made that part of the Area 1 Bank 1 registration that I dial up whenever I first turn the keyboard on. I'm going to make that same change to the rest of the registrations that I use for gigs. Hey @Brad Saucier I wonder if there is any place on this site where we could start a curated collection of "Pro Tips" for the PX-S3000 (and similar sections for the S1000 and other instruments). I don't know if my suggestion to dial the accomp volume down to 0 would qualify for that list or not, but I suspect other suggestions like "Use the registrations... that's what they're there for" and "Put your favorite sounds/instruments/tones in Bank 1 Areas 1 through 4" would qualify. I'm sure others on this list have also found (and contributed) tips that would help us all. --wpd
  22. oops... I wrote "modulation" above... I meant "resonance" Anyway, my best understanding is that each tone has tone-specific "default" values for the cutoff frequency, resonance (whatever that means), brilliance, attack, release, vibrato, Portamento, and modulation, not to mention the default values for the DSP settings for the tones with DSPs. I would love to see a chart of what those default values are, for all 700 tones. I could construct the chart for the DSP values.... it would just time and effort.... enough time and effort that I haven't been able to convince myself that it's worth it. But every once in a while I think about finding a wiki page somewhere that I could start the chart, and then I and others could fill it in as we learned things. But I keep coming back to... it would be a lot easier if Casio supplied this information directly instead of having to derive it. Oh well. --wpd
  23. I too am curious as to how Casio decided on the settings for "Cutoff Frequency" for each of the tones. I'm even more curious to learn what "Modulation" does... it appears to do different things for different tones. Finally, I'm curious to learn why these two settings were important enough to rate the #1, default setting for the knob selection. I'm not trying to be snarky... but if I understood more about what they did, and why Casio designed the instrument this way, then I would like to think that I could play it better, just because I understood it a little better. Regardless, my experience is that the knob settings are not "permanent". That is, if you pick a tone, and then dial the knob all the way to one extreme or another, and then select another tone, then the knob setting goes back to its default (tone specific) value for that new tone. Moreover, when you go back to the original tone, its knob settings also revert to their default settings. If you want to preserve the knob setting for a particular tone, you would need to save that in a registration. --wpd
  24. So... this happened to me a couple of times as well, very intermittently, sporadically, randomly, and only when I was practicing outside with my band (so, right in the middle of song while I frantically tried to recover). I always attributed it to user error. Finally, it happened once when I was practicing at home and I was able to stop right there and take a close look at the settings on my keyboard. I saw that I (must have) inadvertently pressed the rhythm button and placed the instrument into ACCOMP mode. In ACCOMP mode, the lower half of the keyboard (everything below the split point) plays chords instead of notes from the currently selected tone. I have no idea how to change the tones that it plays. --wpd
  25. Does that have the same velocity controlled fall as the brass tones?
