A think I am really looking forward to is the programmable arpeggiator. Man this is hot stuff. Together with the AiX sound engine and the speech synthesis and the portamento  function, the new Casiotone seems tailored for EDM. The audio in the video teasers made me think about ELO’s Mister Blue Sky.

Can’t wait for January 20th. And with the pandemics, I hope that we won’t have to wait for months before the new keyboards will hit the shelves.

Programmable arpeggiator have details been leaked about the specs ?, I doubt it if the casiotones are fit for deep midi programming or setting. Being on the subject of midi I wonder which keyboard of the newer ones will have midi 2.0 specification .

I've found there also a Casio G-SHOCK designated MTG-S1000V-1A , A watch to match although its from 2015🤷‍♂️

  2. You guys 🙄

    Have interesting views 😌

Fact of the matter remains the only Casio keyboard that remains firm through time ,

without lots of criticism in return which baffles me more then anything is the WK 7600.

Anything after it is like a young whippersnapper prone to social attention while hardly

standing on their own key's. Its an culture thing here which mentions once on a crazy

moon. What do you gonna do. Its musing its part of the belonging kind. 🤭

  3. It is possible to make a stereo sound mono , Distortion effect is one of the DSP that keeps the sound centered, The only thing to do is reduce the effect so much that it doesn't kick in. I know cause by George I tried so much to figure out why it couldn't output in stereo. I think it differs between hexlayer  and tone sounds.

  4. Aside sound engine improvements, I'm thinking of something that is clearly unexpected or is.

An arranger-synth , Performance / arranger , Performance , Vocal string keyboard, Vocal sampler keyboard.

new definition keyboard class. Surely an expanded AiX with new features like vocal processing and enhanced

sampling capabilities to go with that, A keyboard with new presets and enhanced  performance capabilities

that maybe be reminiscent to Casio vocal sampling of the past but not necessarily.

I sum it up like expanded AiX processor with new preset sounds for CTX(if it is one) and vocal string sound processing

and maybe sound preset related for vocal sound processing. Anyway this can only be a powerful AiX sound

processor. I can only imagine how many sounds can add up to play a rich performance but someone mention it to be

an arranger type and that says a lot but we will see.

  5. Chas , Jokeyman123 like totally right the experienced of well known music pieces played as they should be, or self compositions played on an instrument

The thing that makes me happy as well when people listen to demo's I've made they don't ask what instrument its made with, More like

"did you make that music", I go yeah yes you like. If they really interested I tell them how and with what made that magic happen 😄

  6. I was pondering something for a few weeks now , So clearly some people retain an image that not true anymore.

Few weeks ago I went to one of musical instrument shops I love to go to and play some. While playing with on a

few brands I got into a conversation with a young shop assistant how this and that brand sound like, be great on stage

and a go to keyboard to work with. Than the shop assistant ask if I'm an artist, I said no but that I give a little performance

once a while at company parties, bbq , Family and other venue's.

I said either I do some sound design mostly or practice playing and the practice part was an item we talk bout good sounds for performance

and musical taste , I then said I'm using Casio and the shop assistant replied Casio no they don't have good sounds. Was a

bit surprised hearing that , so you don't know the latest or even the CT-S1 (I didn't bought mine at this shop which is huge shop to go at)

No that person said, I said really cause you would amazed, Casio changed their ante sure assistant thought about the older version good

for 8 to 88 hobby beginners.

Shop assistant looked at me "like serious no its you're thing" , Looking around didn't see any CT nor CTK they did have once.

I plugged them right there to try it me saying that in  a Moss voice from "the IT crowd" nerdy :)) . I understood it was my enthusiasm talking

but we where on "the good sound topic " for practice and idea's. Stopped the conversation cause well some don't know.

People still think toy keyboards its like this old view hits them with that believe , Maybe there no exposure off course people can look it up

on internet but it has to be word of mouth to know or bump upon to. This is this but what if , I mean there less musical exposure nowadays

I use to see in electronic shops, books stores and what not keyboard from 15 to 400 euro setup people toggling on keyboards. You don't have

that anymore maybe its obsolete with online shops and youtube but that not the same like tactile response. I'm kind of old fashioned with that.

Time changed but if they don't know now they know.

I know this is a bit late but:

I'm not sure if this will help if you store everything as All files.  But, if you have many different tone, phrase, sequence, stage settings etc.  type files, then you can create packages in the Data Editor that will group the things you want to together or loaded into the various sections (tone, stage setings, phrase) of the PX-5s without having to load or save everything like you do with an All file.

This is only useable through the data editor.  What it would allow you to do, for example, would be to create a package that contains several different tones, maybe a couple of stage settings, maybe a phrase or two, maybe a sequence in whatever combination and assigned to whatever user slot you want.  You can create several of these packages that organize the types of data you have however you want.  You then transfer the package to the PX-5s and it wil affect only those things that you wanted to load.

That would do it , There where specific phrases that didn't need to be part of a stage still was because of how I wanted it, Which was not necessarily again cause I wanted it for anyone to create their own melody how they wanted it with any other sound. And I wanted to leave room for new composition just with the sounds in the stage. I'm going for the packages solutions I've got lots of renaming to do for the drum , bass and melody patterns / arpeggio, this solution can work out excellent. Thank you.

Le Femme Beaucoup Du Vent , 😂

Good to hear it didn't disappoint by much, Enjoy.

  9. I say, Its odd replacing Midi in to function as a power input, That means disconnecting it from the main print (as Midi itself is a print attached to the mainboard)

and reconnecting the wire with the main input of original dc from another board , But this also means someone has put a din connection on the adapter removing the original

one. That kinda cheap and messy cause now its missing din midi In/Out. The original adapter input on the keyboard has to be totally rekt.

That a wrong substitute for power adapter. If anything else happens to the keyboard you'll have to explain that modification, Chances are they won't fix it further as it

    is in a poor state.

    I fully agree with @Jokeyman123

In addition I won't recommend anyone doing repairs themselves on the unit unless you really really know what you're doing, cause there are really sensitive parts inside of it. And once these are broken there be a hard time to replace those parts. Something of this keyboard made me gasp in awe and freaked me out.

But if you're adventures and want one go for it, Just leave it as it is , if it isn't broken don't fix it.

    Hi,

You don't have to use channel 1 and 2 for song track 1 and 2.  You could start the song sequencer track at MIDI channel 5 and use the hex layers on zone 1 and 2 in the stage settings.  Likewise you can set a song sequencer track to drums.  The drums don't have to be on track 1 or 2 of the sequencer or on channel 1 or 2.

If I understand what you are after, you could setup and entire song sequencer at say tempo 110.  You could set hex layers on zones 1 and 2 and you could set up an arpegiation for that stage setting.  Press [Song], choose the song, then press exit.  The song light will stay lit.  Press start and also play the keyboard at the same time and your arpeggiated stage setting will play with the song in time.

The drums and the hex layers won't step on each other.   You would have to manually start and stop the song when playing the keyboard.  Am I missing your objective?

Not at all missing the objective 🙂 That is all indeed possible both ways  but to do so require lots of handling as the song sequencer

really not a part of stage but will play useful  if triggered by control option as sort of backing. Song sequencer purely for playing and

groove on top of a stage sounds. song mode , stage mode , wav player they're all their own entity bonded by Midi CC controller.

But I expect to much while this is a stage piano not a performance synth like the XW *sigh* discovering cool things on this its like the

saying go's  limitation breaths creativity maybe I'm rambling .

Managing track channels specific to not interfere with zone channels hex/tone usage of a stage also can be done luckily. If it were not that  Hexlayer

sounds have their own tones to play with , There for If two hexlayers make up a big sound like a specific bass or piano zone one and two are taken for,

either use one hexlayer in song mode and reserve one for stage , use two hexlayer for song mode and none for stage and vice versa. Concession if I say

this correctly to be made. Either way hexlayer stay fixed at channel/zone 1 and 2.  You'll only notice when hexlayers playing big role in sound designing your music,

I'm burning to know how PX560 users manage with four hexlayers(and one dsp).

Thanks for the detailed answer. There's a lot to unpack there. I will have to study it more carefully. In the meantime, do you have any audio examples of those techniques?

I have projects that I've ranted a while back about , Can't do though at the moment or coming weeks. Its an interesting project but I got to finish the other ones I have little or no time, I was pondering about it some more the solo-synth is basically a monophonic hexlayer it could do it as well but with legato.

Okay. How would a hammer-on sound be programmed in, say, a PX-5S or PX-560, which both have a better Hex Layer implementation than an XW but do not have, AFAIK, any hammer-on samples?

It might not needed be hammer-on samples per se if you got synthesis. For special purpose instrument it would be nice to have but that is workstation range keyboard. And I'll bet even the popular sold WK-7600 doesn't have that.

PX-5S and PX-560 every sample is a wave sound and has certain properties that can be used,  if there are no samples fitting to an instruments musical behavior one can approximate those with wave sound within both instruments. That is what synthesis is for its not only for manipulating synth sounds like pulse , sine and other sampled instrument to just layer on top of each other like wow. It would be a waste of an instrument to not look at it as such one can purpose it in anyway u want . One of the reason for me to look and ask for expanded capabilities like better more filter , dsp - chains, eg, step-lfo , holds etc because the tech has great sounds, fine synthesis to open up ones creativity creating emulating the missing parts for an performance.

Thrills and triple strikes thus fast play is the magic which i keep in mind cause I'm no guitar player and I once saw how a piano player played two note interval to get an modulation. If possible playing two notes like that an hammer on is also possible , On a synth you can cheat with  Key -off , velocity ,  filter envelope and .

Two notes three tones, The first tone the note pressure mustn't die the transient attack has to stay so you don't want the amp envelope changed,

however the second tone has to get plucked quickly and balanced in the transient when you hit that note it shouldn't bounce it need to get locked in harmonious. There what the second tone is for this one plucked should fall in balanced with the transient attack of the first tone level so it has to be filter response for this one where it has to lock into the first tone , the filter has to be set on the same length as the transient attack of the first tone, but there a problem surfacing cause you don't get that hammer-on effect because it will sounds to harmonious like a dyad, So you want to mask this long enough to hide overlap of two separate tone. that where the third tone is for.

This Third is the key-off this tone is when the first tone is struck and softly plucked by the second tone filter response only the second

tone when played  figural speaking struck the second note by velocity response while transient attack still continue cause the first note has to continue until the moment the key is released .

this triggers a key-off by  the third tone which is programmed short on the amp level but with high filter envelope response as an off tone

Meaning  this third is a short -off version of the first tone  but with filter envelope response to match the second tone filter envelope.

The velocity level has to be as such,  hammer on is playing fast without plucking a snare full on a second time like the first one has been done.

the first Tone pluck has to be played at full range with out losing its transient attack, The second tone has to be locked in without getting bend it has

to stay balanced with the first pluck that when filter response comes in at the point it can lock into the first tone transient. The third tone is when this

second tone get released it twangs a little at the same level of the second tone filter response level like it left after the second note thus both exposed as

a nice harmonic twang end. Both second and third tone should play at the same velocity level to pull that off. So I guess the first tone has to be a lower

velocity level and second and third note at highest velocity. This is when the modulation comes at play with two notes just like how I saw it done. :).

I've used some principle methods that are much related as and from layering with hexlayers.  I agree totally that the implantation on the PX560 and

PX5S are far better. Tone edit on the XW is limited actually its all put in solo synth, XW tone not a true ADSR compared with the PX.

Realistic slides even with no other notes playing are hard to accomplish without actually sampling them. Hammer-ons and pull-offs (do bass players do the latter?) are also difficult to do well without sampling. Maybe impossible given that I have yet to hear any of those done convincingly. Maybe there is something in the TwiddlyBits library, which I have not heard other than the few freebies that were (once) on the company's website.

No hexlayers and zones are the trick , Most notes can be programmed in a way that with velocity that single note slides where it needs to go.

including hammer-ons. I think the mistake people make with zones is for different instrument usage while in reality one can program one single

instrument using all zones complete with velocity dsp and eq. This is certainly true for PX5S and PX560. The XW maybe the P1 hexlayer but not

the zones without cause of the limit tones have. Dave Weisner made cool bass sounds.

  14. @Jokeyman123 I can't believe I've read a post from Jokeyman aligned and well with spaces for once 😂.

Its to bad my XW is down for the moment I've probably found the problem and can fix it as it seems being a well known

one, Back to the subject we've talked about so much and yes still true to this day is the XW, (G1) hybrid processing

sound system, PCM, Sample and Solo synth, (P1 - Organ , Hexlayers). I wouldn't mind same (although with slightly improved)system with different form factor though and the true identity of the secret sauce of sound waves from a

well known company. It would be fabulous and exquisite if it had the keybed of the latest.

I almost forgot what I wanted to go about, XW was the latest synth back then with "Feed Back" loop, I didn't payed much

attention to it because of it roughness. Not many synths have similar feedback functions , Understand me correctly feedback and not modulation one osc to another nor sync or drift. Love the XW solo sounds cause they're like deep editable similar to PX5S hexlayers . The XW Ipad app is still the best de facto editor to program solo sounds.

Every keyboard that includes a GM sound set has a slap bass tone or sample. But it is almost always ONLY a slap bass tone or sample. When playing a bass guitar in the slap-bass style, two other tones are typically produced in addition: a "pop" tone made by pulling a string away from the body, and a dead-note tone resulting in part by muting the strings or string with the fret hand.

Does any current or past Casio keyboard implement any of those "extra" tones? If not, has anyone here managed to emulate them by editing some other tone? I have a few ideas along those lines but I don't want to re-invent the wheel, so to speak, if it's not necessary.

Mike programmed a nice example contained in the second PX5S All file if its any help, its a guitar hexlayer with the muted strings and I believe a pop but not string with the fret hand. Interesting that you mentioned this right now cause I was examining phrase slap bass 1 on the PX5S today , listening to it at tempo 20. Keyboard players  such as me at my level can't play bass creatively I pondered how to put the pops and mute's as well nice bender value's to get going.

  16. I'm so lazy I create like tons of tones and stages which good enough to put up on the download of the forum.

But they're everywhere in equal amounts of all files. I mean it will take me a full day to sort that out.

What finished I'll copy to the first bank and second and the rest garbage but once you're in that creative fit.

Its everywhere and because most stage have custom phrases that wont get saved along well you can guess.

There has to be a faster way my lazy bum didn't think off I'm open for ideas or plan a day to manage the files

give me a few pointers please.

Basically, are you asking for a way to use more hex layer tones with phrases?

No actually 🤔 , Two hexlayers could be enough I've never felt to be on the point of needing

one more there is only something in the way , like the fixed drum its in the way , its only there

for movement of a groove but if Its needed in the zone there a choice to be made with sounds

in the stage not to be chosen. Mostly the drum gets the priority over the sound. I dunno.

If hexlayer could have part that can be arpeggiated or phrased and another part not would be cool

but that would be to much technically way complicated. Zone 1 is actually a domination between

hex ,  drums , phrase recording  and stage piano.

Either one more zones could have helped or having one free arpeggio/phrase sequencer assigned

to an channel not in the way of the zones. And select that channel for whatever midi sound, drum groove hexlayer to another zone or outside the zoning than just 1 or 2.  Or have song mode with two

function the other be drum channel that sync play with stage mode this could be fully assigned in the

mixer if it could have worked like that.

Ive noticed this with the XW as well you can create sounds and their enough arpeggio's and phrases to

create movement or an groove and free channels to use something external. the tools are there but they

stand themselves in the way being not freely assignable its same here with PX5S basically it has nine phrase

sequencer but they're limited. no key ranges. its all there but limited or each other in the way.
