  1. Day motion version 2 performance mode patch in the work. By accident I learned solo synth can be played by the step sequencer also one draw back is if the tone changes it also changes how the step sequence sounds but the step sequence standard stores the solosynth selected. I was happy very happy cause the step seqeunce controls did something awesome to it got a bit messy when I tried to much so I saved two version on the G1 to rethink stuff here are two demo's of the performance patch a work in progres from here on I'll just list the patches here and demo's on soundcloud.

Left hand soft string + sweep synth

middle C - Seashore which been used with arp to slap in sync with drum.

    Right hand Hirezmotion vox solosynth.

  2. I listened to and commented on these tracks the other day when they showed up in my soundcloud inbox.  You work some nice sounds into your tunes.  Color me impressed.

    Merry Xmas,

    Gary

Thanks Its a first that I worked with performance mode stuff usually I do stuff in a DAW and  sequence everything which kills creativity, now I can do one take and play on top I've discovered sound morphing using nrpn and sliders.  My second version of the daymotion performance is also in the works added a demo of that one. Needles to say i'm getting more done since I have a few weeks more time at hand now(yay vacation).

    And Merry Xmas all :)

  3. Excellent work. Have you done the songs only with XW-G1? The song "Darkhouse NightScreech" could end immediately. CONGRATULATIONS. :D

Thanks David and yes all sound come from XW-G1 only, I've used solosynth for bass and the G1 drumkits then recorded it in sample looper. The screeching solosynth is for download I called it "circuitbend". I've recorded many samples just with the sample looper. But am starting to get the hang of making nice and clean drumbeats by setting the velocity of each drum to an appropriate level.

  4. File Name: DAYMOTION SET

    File Submitter: XW-Addict

    File Submitted: 23 Dec 2013

    File Category: XW-G1

A work in progress plus don't forget to set the step sequence pattern correctly in performance patch.
Daymotion is an music project to gather lots of all what in the G1 and create a sonic musical event.
Ive used the arpeggio on the left hand and recorded a phrase on the right but there are lots of possibility's

    Enjoy.

  5. This is what free time at hand can do finally put my creativity into the max.

First NightScreech a song with screaming solosynth accompanied by the excellent drum kits bass and snare drums

the G1 has to offer its a loud one, As usual I do one take of my music so its not clean I especially love the screaming

around 3.20 of this one. I've layered the drums into the sample looper using bass drum and snare drum kits took me

a few attemps to get it right. For cymbals and hihat the Solo patches for G1 and RZ also available in the G1.

Next up is another Performance mode patch took me quiet a while its not finished yet so to figure how to do it I made a

demo song to get a few idea's. I manage to hook my mpx8 on the G1 for nice low abass drum.

I've recorded first layer into my four track recorder this layer is the performance patch with step sequence.

the next track I the four track effect vocalfx1 and used motion vox p79  on it which give a nice centered fx sound and

    played this track through.

The last track I've used marimba glocken , recorder , ocarina and seq.square , seq.pulse on top the end where the vox

ended it isn't smooth as much I'm trying out sounds that top each other off nicely.

Daymotion files are available for download its a work in progress.

  6. Try extracting the files from the corrupt card to your computer and then copy them manually to a new SD card formatted in the XW.

You may be able to salvage some of the files that way.

Also a good reason to backup your backups to the computer as well as multiple USB HDDs.

I'm a big believer in multiple redundant backups.  I pretty much have at least 5 backups of everything I do.  That's one reason I'm still using bookmarks I collected in 1998 :D

    Gary

EDIT ::: This is also a good argument to use the Casio G1 Data Editor Software which is free of charge on Casio's website.

That a good idea, Next time ill regularly all save everything to SD and the computer in separate folders with dates.

I make the mistake when saving a Performance mode patch that the step sequencer patch also gets saved which is not.

I'm now like Aaaaah hours in editing and adjusting gone specifically one patch that gave me satisfaction feeling of accomplishment.

  7. When I save a performance or step sequence the G1 does it nicely,

Because i'm afraid to loose everything worked on its also copied from

the SD card to my computer.

Recently when I put or save something on the SD card and try to retrieve

it I get an "Wrong data" message.

lost several of my performance patches already .More over

is that I did load an allsave file into the G1 which delete all the

performance  and step sequence patches I've made *sigh

So half of my files can't be read some don't even show up listed. The rest which

where on the G1 are lost.

  8. I wasn't sure of it I'm still trying to convince myself, sometimes I'm getting it and then I don't there is to quote someone that reviewed the keyboards "A muscle memory learning curve" here and it is tricking me.

This is the thing I don't have the P1 I have the G1 I did that cause the need of sampling without a computer plus I wanted an Casio. I knew about the P1 hexlayers but bluntly though the G1 has it also(It did but not so greatly as the P1).

The learning curve tested me to find out everything about the G1 and boy how it did. In short after several months pushing twisting and sliding knobs and sliders it let out bit of its self what it can do and not and for sure the thing it is capable of.

 The G1 can do more then the P1 actually can in sense of Performance and Groove, The G1 is a Groove synth a while ago a member asked about if something like Karma could be done for the XW series. If you look at it Karma does lots of complicated midi messaging and pattern assignments algorithmic. The more I've delved in the step sequencer capability and slider knobs control option shows G1 can change behavior of a tune tone , note , effect, arpeggio , groove  etc.

I don't know about the P1 but the G1 step sequencer and performance mode can be edited in way's that can change every single pattern of a sequence from the eight assignable pattern buttons even switching instruments on the fly how cool is that. The tedious part is programming the synths virtual controls sliders and setting things up for performance even less midi CC message which seems short on effects. However I can only know then when I'm using something like the midi designer app suggested or something similar.

At first I also though the buttons and slider function between the P1 and G1 where similar but they greatly differ for instance for me it was normal to create a two wave solo synth tone and then edit the sound by the sliders and pressing the buttons on the left of the synth. Never took notice that it was different for the P1.

It seems a bit blunt to say the XW series synth function differently even if some of it engine part work the same they each hold their own purpose of performance.  Its all there a synth you can do lots with just by discovering stuff inside of it..

There is a certain muscle memory learning curve at work but surely one that pay's of in time.

  9. If I would guess the next Casio could be an extended or improved WK or CTP serie as a teaser. Well the XW series and PX5S came as an surprising Casio hit after several years absent from the synth market. I'm guessing if Casio does their market study right and go forward on the their impressive sounds and action the latter doesn't matter as the quality of what they produce and the price that go's with it are perfectly balanced as always.

Still I want more DSP , arpeggio's , after touch , velocity switch control I already love the knobs and controls almost everything can connect to the XW-G1.

still I agree with someone else on this forum the midi CC lacks information for effects and what not but the NRPN partly suffice as of yet I don't know how far that reaches still scratching the surface.

Performance mode is wicked cool, Once figured out that the step sequencer might be programmable by midi on the fly i'm going to be hooked on Casio for life.

  10. It will take quiet some button work to get your sample as you wish to play on the key's best to use the editor application for this, I think a better intuitive sample editor app would be best for the G1 ;)

  11. Actually on my XW-P1 both the Hex Layers and the Drawbar Organ as well as the PCM patches DO respond to aftertouch when I use my PC3K8 as an external controller so the Casio engineers had the forethought to build that capability into the kebyoard.

I didn't notice any modulation in the Synth sounds when I tried but I'd imagine that the aftertouch parameter could also be programmed into those patches as well.

    Gary

So how do I do that with the G1 using layers.

  12. No one answered. So...

Both the G1 and P1 can velocity switch between drum instruments in a drum set (and likely do this already in the presets).  But for the G1 that's the extent of user control over velocity switching.  As you know various PCM melody tones in both models automatically switch between different waves depending on velocity but there's no user control over that at all.

Aah to bad so it means the tones are fixed velocity's. Its odd cause I though tone 334 StringSpacePad as one of a few has some after touch in the velocity if i'm saying this correct. So it also cant be done in the layers of the G1?.

  13. What definitely persuade me to buy a synthesizer so bad is a good fun and entertaining demonstration.

First time I got into synths was about a year and a half ago blown away with Jordan Rudess on the Kronos,

But I could not afford that one then my MW1 came after that the Casio XW came into the picture it was like

travelling back in time to experience the synthesizer world again. And then came PX5S I like how Mike Martin

demonstrated the many aspect as well for this guy Ralph Maten.
