  1. Be sure not to confuse rhythm sequence set in Performance mode with step sequence mode they both differ , If you want to create a new rhythm with bass, drum chords and a few solo then step sequence mode is the place to be. In performance mode you can select the preferred sequence or one of your own custom made sequence available to your performance patch. Based on which mode you are say Performance mode the lines show the key range for each zone an or effects you've selected in addition. When you edit your performance the display shows value's from the knobs and function you've assigned to them. the right side of the display shows the channels 1 to 16 where 1 to 6 (in case of P1) shows the hex layers followed with the instruments part with step sequence mode. While creating your custom step sequence with bass, chord , drums and solo's, Selecting edit and going to the copy function to copy 1 pattern to another pattern from the eight pattern button selection or a track. Its also possible while recording a sequence on part 1 by pressing another pattern button 2 for instance to continuously record a drum phrase. Its really amazing doing it like that without interrupting your work flow. Using the step buttons or part buttons on your lower left of the keyboard shows which channel is appointed to for settings or edit by pressing mixer you can edit each channel for their respected value's like volume or instrument tone etc. Try changing an existing performance patch and slowly moderate every value or setting of it this will increase the learning rate to get accustomed with these modes.
  2. Another lazy-sunday night on my G1 it was kinda embarrassing to post i'm not a full-fledged keyboard player as you know but with small steps I can create stuff. So I did while doing some sound designing on other performance patches I quickly did two others plus a solo synth. The goal was a blend of solo synth and hex layered performance but my inexperience as a keyboardist and musician lacks certain creativity in arrangement so did a quick sloppy work. patches used (available for download and adjust as you wish) Performance: Mackleed <- Initially used guitar on zone 3 changed that to GM fr horn - 198 Fluitled <- for ambience and a bit of odd fluid sound work Solosynth: Sexyvoice <-Solosynth for Fluidled patch. I've used the HipHOp U1 step-seq has a nice rhythm to work with. And used Nylon Guitar - 215 as the lead instrument. Its sloppy but on a lazy day like this quiet fun to do. My other patches in the work will sound better. Sundown.MP3

Two lazy-sunday patches that accompany a quick and sloppy song I did on my four track, I wanted to do some sound designing that reflex a certain kind of tune. Cant get it quiet right so I've recorded hasty that song just to hear the patches if it sound right. I've also added a solo-synth patch sexyvoice to delve deeper in the world of synth on G1 it sounds nice ).

  5. When it is about sound creation and designing using the Hexlayer or Solo synth both are equally accustomed, However the P1 has more Hex layer capability then the G1 and a variety of extended tones to play with like Piano ,Organ drawbars which are also better in tone quality then the G1 does. The G1 as being a groove synth max to four Hexlayer has a variety more drums then the P1 less on instruments but in addition you can create (recently discovered) multi-samples which can enrich your hexlayer, As it is 16 bit samples depending on the quality you can use all the sample banks for one rich multi-sample or each of the eight sample banks as additional sampled instrument tones. The looper let you instantly create or add loops to your repertoire. Creating a solo synth on the G1 also has the capability to add sampled wave forms to it if sliced very well your sound design go's beyond the sound available even with the Solo synth, I don't think the P1 can add samples to the solo synth. Both are evenly great synth it's just what the keyboardist seeks to add in his/her repertoire.
  6. LOL there is no shame using translators that why they for ) I use and test them often its amazing how good they get over the years.
  7. I've tried that out DSP is the main and only DSP, I guess this also means you've got one DSP over all these zones. If you select all zones, You'll get one DSP effect on all these zones, And If one zone is selected for DSP and you don't want that for the others that leaves the reverb level to be set for each zone to set. While also in Performance mode the solo synth gets the soul usage of the DSP over all the zones keeps the DSP for itself meaning you only get reverb for the remaining zones and no DSP at all. Its handy to keep that in mind while designing a new performance patch. EQ falls over the whole patch. But its possible to create 3 off the same performance patch with the DSP set on those specific zones you want and switch over these on the fly using the multi-function key in performance mode.
  8. I was checking these Piano out on youtube just to find out more about them and noticed a particular comment about that problem seems to do with. I pasted it in here maybe it will help you find out if its similar. I bought one of the first 620s shipped into the U.S. from Kraft Music, back in March of 2010. Adam at Kraft was very helpful, and the piano was in perfect condition when it arrived. I'm very satisfied with the instrument, but did experience a mysterious, intermittent buzzing resonance when I played in the lower register. Nobody at Kraft or Casio could explain this. Eventually, I figured out that the buzz happened when the keyboard cover wasn't firmly shoved back into the case.
  9. So to answer the question right what to compare the XW with depends how many samples and algorithms manipulating and producing the synth tone does. Romplers by definition well the XW does a decent synth tone all in a keyboard for live performance without a computer or else it would have easily been done as an Casio synth App ) in a rack. Guess I chose well going for the G1. Ah well the way I see it I have a bit of everything out there, the XW is made to hook things in it as such you can hook it into a DAW. I've hooked it to my four track Boss Br and made just as easy a song. Just as Mike Martin proved it can do anything depending what kind of music you create even without a computer. Now I'm even more excited releasing my four performance mode in creation patches so I can say i'm a beginner it's not much but it made me proud.
  10. I partially have to stand correct about what I've commented because you're right about the "Engine" even I get confused about emulation and a total new engine concept in the growth (maybe the XW defines itself as mystery engine X haha). The PX5s was defined as the better synthesis engine or rather the next evolution of the P1 and G1. As you said it we could be in the mist about the architecture as a hint made towards Kurzweil VAST as with Korg they have invested in engine after engine for Korg it leaded from Oasys , Karma to EDS as the last been a part of engine derivative made way to other synthesis efforts which became different synthesis modelling algorithm into the Kronos concept. Same for kurzweil maybe. I actually was astonished how you've put it I realized it afterword like my gosh he's right . The XW has also multiple engines in a package which makes it even versatile like the rest of these synth but at an affordable price and PX5s above those two whatever comes after might be better expanded engine and soundscape for the need of live performance or such. I don't know this and have to ask is the part of VA-emulation from the solo synth or just a PCM sample part or actually the performance side of the XW ?. (Honestly I had to refresh myself reading a few pages of Peter manning - Electronic and Computer Music).
  11. Hahaha I would say less then more the King Korg is way above the XW series league it could have also for the AN1X depending on how much effect can be adjusted using these percussive GM sounds to sound like and if the solo synth would have bell timbres and did not be monophonic alone then it could have......just by a bit. It is a nice synth but its just above older vintage synth like DX7 series Moog and drum computers like 808 and such it can slightly match any "Performance" like function on other brands depending how you do combine and program the sounds for it. Actually I don't have a clue what to compare it with but it looks nice and let me find out things sorta you won't know unless you start to program it and I found it the hard way doing the sound designing I'm busy programming four different patches which really sound nice (to me, I'll post them in the coming weeks if time grants me this). With that a synthesizer is a thing to program and create sound with how you do it depends on the music to be shared. (edit) I forgot to mention the XW synth might be the only synth on the market now with substractive synthesis from the external oscillator.
  12. Thanks for sharing I think this is a good time to express not to update the XW series with the latest upgrade until its clear what wrong with for which Casio will have to look into this matter.
  13. Would you mind to demonstrate this function please cause I'm getting square-eyed and my laziness and impatience get in the way figuring this out while my creative mood want to do something else .
  14. There are comments and then you have comment's I don't see any substance in those comments about getting in touch with the XW series, I think all they babble about are the specs and what they feel like the lack off certain functions. Any person taking a first look at the XW series makes guesses what it is spoiled by the view they have of other brands of synths, it leaves people second guessing without knowing actually by playing with the synth instead of looking at it or watching product or unboxing video's. I also was spoiled by other brands for what a synth could be but once I had the G1 starting to play with it that when its potential came clear to me. What do people want people don't know but for some reason there is a need for the sound of vintage synths and the trend of finding those classic sound. The XW series provides a nice blend for those classic sounds and new ones you don't necessarily need a sofware synths emulation with a library here and there. With a touch of a button you have your XW for that stocked with lots of those vintage waves.
  15. That dude know's how to play his second also good
  16. Thanks everyone so many choice and free courses as well hope this will help anyone else to ,While reading and searching I see they still sell books about synthesis for the casio CZ and FZ series.
  17. Do you have a book about synthesis I really appreciate it if the back ground theory can help beginners into synthesis theory to learn about how to setup your own solo synth patch I've looked into a few site for books about synthesis , There are so many which surprised me cause our local bookstore only covers guitars is there any good book that could be recommended for learning this stuff.
  18. When I saw that video for the first time I said to myself "you have to be open minded" and that worked I hear the wide variety of noises.
  19. You might like this one also it ROCKS one of my favorite for the Casio SA-76 Have to add the accompany is not from the SA-76 XD
  20. If you go to the casio.com site select on the download section which data-editor you need agree to the terms. Then scroll down there you will find "Source code release" its software covered by a GNU Lesser General Public License (LGPL). So you're practically on your own by it so read carefully what source they provide. From there you can download qt-everywhere .. files. I have not looked properly into it have not tried Qt however it tickled my interest cheers. Here the link. http://support.casio.com/en/support/download.php?cid=008&pid=20
  21. No sorry I wrote it wrong did "without" instead of "with out" XD frankly I don't know any app that does the karma like thing most apps are for midi control and not sending notes like a phrase pattern, hardly phrase generation. I'm searching tho if I find an app good enough I'll post it on this topic.
  22. Aww you got me all drooling for that would be truly awesome to see Karma on its own. It also would take incredible lots of time to build. Casio has released a library to create software for the P1 and G1 and in a way Mike Martin has provided an app for those two plus as what karma does without the phrase conversion creation or edit better yet this app can do stuff what Karma cant and that controlling the solo synth entire oscillators and settings.
  23. Thanks to this forum I've taken an extra liking to Casio keyboards and the contribution of the users and admin specially Mike Martin for lending us an ear and providing us with many tips help us to get even more out these Casio products. I thank you all for the inspiration and liking as true musicians by heart. Not to sound dopey or sentimental sob but its how I feel about it .
