  1. You sure are great at figuring these sounds out Brad.
  2. yeah, it was really more of an interview with Krazy Kyle. He looks like Moby's cousin.
  3. Did not realise that at all. I bet there's a lot of references I don't get in the stage settings.
  4. yeah not really music related. It is audio related though and pretty cool. http://www.tokyotimes.com/casio-logosease-makes-communicating-underwater-easier/
  5. here you go download px5s update 1.12 from here: http://www.mediafire.com/download/7eldfkgang6h4g7/PX-5S_Updater-1_12_140407.zip
  6. I'm uploading it for you somewhere. The forum limit is 50mb and the file is over 100.
  7. I'd listen to it definitely. Always hungry for content relating to px5s.
  8. Interesting. That's roughly the price for low-end quality headphones but I expected them to be half that price, just because Casio seem to be able to beat everyone on price while still making quality gear so that makes me think these are a bit better than low-end and might sell for twice that from a different manufacturer. I do like the way they bend and the fact they are metal if that's true.
  9. Thanks Scott, I seemed to have missed #1 but searched my mail for it and I'm all caught up now. Great work!
  10. I wear mine most all day. Maybe it only affects some people. All I know is, my hair started thinning exactly under where the band sits. I stopped wearing it there and my hair is back to normal.
  11. Not losing it any more since I started wearing the band over my forhead. It wasn't just my barber. It was visibly noticeable. I don't know about hats but I think a hard plastic band directly in contact with your head can damage your hair. I've seem them talk on audiophile forums about it. Supposedly you can avoid it with certain headphones though I'm not sure what to look for. See this thread for example: http://www.reddit.com/r/headphones/comments/2ak2qq/listen_to_the_advice_of_this_subreddit_you_dumb/
  12. Not sure if I'll be able to continue wearing headphones. I was wearing a pair of cheap sony ones (~ €20) and the headband was making my hair thin. I was going bald because of them. Didn't realise they were the reason until I came across a discussion on another forum randomly. My barber confirmed this happens so I started wearing them with the band hanging over my forehead away from my hair. 2 months later and my hair is back to normal practically. I'm stunned. I wear a motorcycle helmet every day and caps and these never effected it. I guess when the band is too tight to the scalp, it smothers the follicles. I wonder if more padded headphones have the same problem? Anyone know or have their own anecdotes? Anyway, I don't seem to be able to find these Casio headphone for sale anywhere and reviews are scant. I can't even find a price for them.
  13. Thanks Mike. Excellent Rhodes and a great idea with the pan on the arpeggiator with the tempo on slider 1. I did something similar on one of my stage settings. I also liked the way Slider 2 does on/off and volume for zone 2.
  14. You want a hex layer with the piano one layer and the strings on another? I actually think this might be a little more complicated than it sounds as the piano samples are recorded as Left and Right and you need to use both samples in the hex layer to make a piano sound and then you need to pan them properly but I'm not sure how much. And then you might need to adjust some other settings to get an exact matching tone like stereo grand piano. If you go into layer edit in he hex layers and scroll all the way to wave 1 and wave 2, you will see two piano samples called something like piano1Left and piano1Right. Hopefully someone else will chime in or create the hex layer you need for you. It is possible and to set the slider to control hex layer volumes too.

  16. yeah, you could trigger a drum phrase in zone 1 by pressing the start/stop button (turn zone 1 off so other drums won't sound when you hit a key, the phrase will play regardless of whether zone 1 is on or off). Then for zone 2, select your looped phrase in the arpeggiator and turn off the arpeggiator for the other zones. Make sure it's set to fixed and the arpeggiator is set to play repeatedly (by pressing the sys setting button and arp button together so the light flahes). Next time you press a key, the bass loop will start. Then on zone 3/4 you can play over it. I've attached a stage setting to demonstrate this. Press start/stop to start the drum loop on zone 1 and then press any key on the keyboard to start the looped phrase in arpeggiator for zone 2. Then create and save your own phrases and select those in place. You could also just select the drum in the arpeggiator for zone 1 aswell and bring in the zones using sliders or other controls set to control the volume or cut/off of zones. drumBassLoop.zip
  17. Thanks Mike, so if the cut-off is set to 0 (like in the piano stage settings) in the settings, then is the slider's range will be between 0 and -127? Would that mean if I had the cut-off set to 0 and the cut-off slider set to 22, then the actual cut-off value is -105? If that's the case, it it possible to save the stage setting with the cut-off at -105?
  18. Small thing but I've been meaning to ask this for a while: You know when you have a stage setting where slider 1 is set to cut-off, well where do you find the location to adjust that cut-off without using the slider? Say for example, I use the slider to adjust the cut-off....well a lot of us know, if you save the stage setting, that adjustment won't save because you made it with a slider and these are considered temporary changes. You must make adjustments in the settings for them to save. So say, I have cut-off set to 28 by using the slider. It sounds good so I want to go into the settings and manually set that to 28 too. But if I go into tone edit>filter>cut-off which I think is the location of the cut-off, I see it is set to 0. I change that to 28 and the sound is totally different. I notice the scale here is -64 to +64 where as sliders all operate on a 0 to 127 basis....so maybe if I change it to -36.....but still it isn't the same. If I change the reverb to 56 using a slider and go into stage setting edit>etc...>reverb send, this is set to 56 in the settings so this is why I am confused. I presumably can change that to 55, then back to 56 manually, save the setting and it will save. I'm thinking maybe there is another location for the cut-off, I haven't noticed and this is what I am changing when using the slider?
  19. I finally downloaded the reverbgrand stage setting today: http://www.casiomusicforums.com/index.php?/files/file/20-reverbgrand/ When I used it, I didn't think it sounded like Mike's sample: https://soundcloud.com/casiomusicgear/px-5s-reverbed-piano This could be because I am not a very good player which is true but it could also be that I maybe have some system settings altered and those settings save and load every time I turn on/off the keyboard. A while ago, I realised this did happen so I set auto-resume to off in the options. So just to give me peace of mind that it is my playing and not some system settings that I messed with at some point, could someone please listen to a sample of me playing with Mike's reverbpiano stage setting and tell me if they think it sounds as it should? Cheers! I'm afraid you will have to turn the volume up as it is just the raw wav file straight from the usb key and it records quite low. I haven't figured out how to increase the volume yet or decrease the size so I could upload direct to the forum (10mb limit). https://soundcloud.com/smallchanger/ellens-dritter-gesang Ok, I brought it into audacity and normalized it per BradMz's instructions in another thread so the volume should be louder. https://soundcloud.com/smallchanger/ellens-dritter-gesang-1
  20. You're more than welcome dlm. Like I say, I've gotten loads of help on this forum too so I like to play it forward. I still have a lot to learn too. Best way to learn the features of the board I think is to watch Mike Martin's clinics: I don't want to drown you in vids and some of this might be covered in Mike's videos and some stuff you probably already know but PianoManChuck has some good tuts too: I'd like to check out your stage setting, sure. You have to zip it and then click 'more reply options' which gives you the option to attach a file. And you're right, the px5s is an amazing keyboard with a lot of possibilities.
  21. yeah, I recorded it as an e. But lets, go over the steps to change that to an c so you learn something. The arpeggiator is already set up to play whatever phrase is in #125 in the phrase list for zone 4 so let's just change the phrase in #125 from a looping e note to a looping c note. Press the phrase button twice so the two lights are flashing.Scroll down to end measure and change that to 2. This means it will record for 2 bars. You could put any number but lets just pick 2.Next time you press a key on the piano (or a control), it will record for 2 bars and then end.If you left "end measure" on auto instead of 2, you would need to press the record button to stop the recording. So press and hold the c note you want until the recording ends.Phrases record only zone 1, but it doesn't matter what tone is selected on zone 1. Phrases don't record the tones, they only record the actions you make (notes you play, as well as slider/knobs or pedal movements you make) so any phrase you record can be played back with any instrument. You might record it with the piano on zone 1 but you will be playing it back with the string sound on zone 4.Once it has finished recording, set loop to "on" if it is set to off.Next you need to save and overwrite the phrase on #125.So press the write button. Phrases are set up to automatically save in the next available slot so you need to change 126 in the top right to 125.Then press enter and yes and you are done.Any trouble, please ask. A couple of things to note about phrases: They only record everything after the recording starts - for example if you hold down the sustain pedal before you start recording, it will not record the pedal movement (similarly if you have a chord or note held down before the recording starts, it will not record). You can however trigger the phrase to start recording by pressing a pedal. You might have seen an option when you pressed the phrase button twice called "rec mode". Change that to "OUDB" which stands for over dub when you have a phrase recorded and that's when the real fun starts. It will loop over and over while you add more and more to your phrase. It's a lot of fun, even just recording slider movements over a phrase. When you are about to record a phrase you can press the edit button to change the time to 3/4 5/4 etc etc. Default time is 4/4. Also press the tempo button to change the tempo. You can of course change the tempo after you have recorded your phrase.
