  1. The mic stand, speaker stand and music stand always made it more than one trip for a load in. But when I put my stool like this I could put all the stands in there! And now I just carry my Casio in with my other hand while pulling the dolly. David
  2. I had a MO 8 and was looking for a while to replace it with a smaller 88 weighted keyboard that sounded as good. Gotta be the 88 weighted keys in a small package that can do the same things the Mo would do for a great price. Is that "one" thing?? David
  3. I mainly use my px-5s as a piano, and sometimes layer strings. I also split the keyboard with organ and piano to play tunes like "Smooth". Also layer electric piano and strings for songs like "What you won't do for love." Pretty simple stuff, but its so cool that this instrument will do everything that my MO 8 would do and its half the weight and much smaller. I can now play a gig with my whole system (kbyd, mixer, speakers, mic stand, piano stand, speaker stand, computer stand, computer) and get in with ONE TRIP, which is HUGE! After MANY load ins, I found out how to perfectly load my dolly and took a picture so I wouldn't forget how I did it! I know, little things make me happy.. David
  4. Mckeys, I had the same problem at first, I was completely lost with the 2 manuals, which didn't help me AT ALL. I learned everything I needed to know by going to youtube and watching "pianomanchuck"s vids. Just go to youtube and put in PIANOMANCHUCK ps-5x. I learned everything I needed to with those vids. Mike has some good vids on here as well. I used to own a Mo 8 (and traded it in for this one) and after watching those vids while sitting at my keyboard, this keyboard is MUCH easier to program then that one was. David
  5. You might want to TRY to save the drum sound under a different category like a string or piano tone. That way you would be able to put it in any zone. Mike was trying to show in a video that you couldn't do this, but then was very surprised when it was allowed. Just a thought. David
  6. When I set up my piano/strings setting, I used #7 volume and it worked on the individual parts just fine. That's why I asked. David
  7. This is a GREAT template. I didn't know what it was by the name until I clicked on it and read that it gave volume control for the 4 zones. Exactly what I need!
  8. when is it a good time to use #7volume, and when for #11expression? David
  9. Oh, I forgot to mention, GREAT video! David
  10. Chuck, I should mention that it sounds really complicated at first but once you get the hang of it, it is easy even for me. One question: why do you use #11 expression instead of #7 volume? Do they do different things? David
  11. Ok, I uploaded my piano/string sound, but had to make a new topic because I couldn't figure out how to put an attachment in a reply! Could I have put it here in a reply? Oh, I just found it, "reply options", dummy me. David
  12. Thanks Brad! I'll start messing with FILTER now! David
  13. I couldn't figure out how to put this attachment in my post "what strings do you like" so I put it here. Just 40 secs of piano/strings. I like how the strings now fade in and swell a little then fade out, pretty unobtrusive. What do you guys thing? David ZOOM0083.MP3
  14. This is great! I need all the help I can get. David
  15. Newbie, I am VERY new to this stuff. Could you dumb it down for me? Pretend I know nothing about this stuff (that's just about right). I have been messing with the filter stuff on a string sound. Would that be a sound that would not be affected much by the filter variations? I'm hoping that I am not the only one that doesn't know about this stuff! I'm a teacher and I always tell my students to ask ask ASK!
  16. I just got my Privia case and it fits great! Not a lot of padding, but if you don't throw your piano around it will work fine. Plenty of room in the pockets for my good sustain pedal and other things as well. David
  17. I have been working on a string sound and I have found that when I work in the AMP section, I can change attacks, releases, decays and other things. But when I mess with things in the FILTER section I don't hear anything happen to the sound at all. So, what do the things do in the FILTER section? Thanks, David
  18. I worked on some other adjustments that I didn't think would would affect my last problem but it took it away for some reason! These new adjustments have made my string sound BEAUTIFUL with my piano layer! I did some tweaking on my string sound with attack and attack level, and decay time and decay level. The strings now come in a little softer and later, and swell just a little, then decay as the piano sound decays. If anybody is interested, let me know and I'll post the exact changes that I made. I only made changes to about 6 things and they are all in the AMP section.
  19. I moved my release level up to 5 for some sustain after I release the keys. Was that the wrong way to get sustain? David
  20. Playkeyz, I never run stereo so that panning shouldn't affect me at all, right? David
  21. Yep, I've used the concert strings as well. That is one of only 3 string sounds that work for me. I don't know anything about using a pedal to fade strings in and out so I had to put the fade in the sound. But it created a problem Here's a question: When I hit a chord and hold the sustain down the strings and piano fade after a few seconds, like I want, but when I then pick up the sustain pedal, the strings make a sound again, like I hit the chord again. Is there a setting I have to change for that? Anybody?? David
  22. I knew somebody would ask what kind of string sound I was looking for, because there has to be millions of string sounds. I really don't know how to describe what I want but i'll try. I was looking for a synth string to layer on my piano sound. I'm looking for a slow attack, not too bright, and a reverb at the end. A lot of the strings on the 5s have a quick sharp attack at the beginning or are too bright. But I'm looking for something really simple, not something that does something at the end of the sound, or gets louder in the middle of the sound. UPDATE: I just messed around with my string sound (string patch 40 GM synth strings) and I'm liking it better. I turned up the cutoff to +5 which brightened it a bit. I also moved decay time to +12 and decay level to -64 which makes it fade like a sustained piano chord. I also upped the release time to +5 which makes the sustain a little longer. I'm thinking I wasn't liking how the strings held on at full volume when my piano chords died away.
  23. Ok, digital piano! I traded in my MO 8 for this Casio so I think that is a testament to this key.... digital piano. I just love the keyboard, weighted keys and portability. I just need a good string sound! Dshoff (David)
  24. Thanks! I knew there had to be a simple answer. David
