  1. I thought I had fixed the popping sound problem on my Casio Privia PX-850. I haven't. Last night, I had my ear phones on and I was nearly deafened by the sound. I am not tecko enough to record the sound. But the attached YouTube is identical to what is happening with my Digital piano just with two different notes as seems to be the story from everyone with this problem. https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=5lSEspHauEo . As this video demonstrates it is not the actual keys as when you do an octave shift those keys are fine. It appears to be the notes themselves and some problem with those notes being synthesized. For Casio experts: Is there a processor or a patch for the PX 850 that I can buy to fix this. This DP is way out of warranty. Please help.
  2. Lana, what a terrible noise! I hope you can get it fixed. I have a different problem with a popping sound with my PX 850 as best shown in this Youtube that I found. https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=5lSEspHauEo . As you will see, they illustrate the problem but unfortunately, don’t give a solution and imply that the problem is with the way that the processor tries to synthesise the frequency and that therefore, it is inherent with the DP. I have seen other entries into this and other forums describing what I think is a similar problem with this and previous Casio models but no solutions forthcoming except warranty which does not apply to my 2nd hand older unit. Although it is a different problem, perhaps my fixes may fix your problem too? I should say that I am not a musician. I bought this DP on Gumtree because I have just begun piano lessons to help me with learning my part for the choir that I am in. So, I don’t need all the bells and whistles that this DP provides for good musicianship. However, this popping is not conducive to practice! I have two keys which produce the popping particularly when I use the damper pedal. My two keys are B5 and C5, so not the same as the keys shown in the video which were A5 and Ab5". The noise was sometimes v. loud and gave me a fright. I believe that I have alleviated the problem (at least for my use) in that the loud popping has not returned. I figured that the problem may have had something to do with reverberation. So, I looked at the manual and I have done several things mainly around reverberation. 1. I did what the trouble shooting said to do with "sounds and/or effects sound strange" (4th problem in troubleshooting). I think it helped but didn't fix it; 2. I adjusted the String Resonance per the instructions on page E7 of the manual. I adjusted it to Option 1 = Suppressed. This definitely made a difference. Of course, this means you are stuck with a suppressed string resonance when you may want more reverberation. Being a piano newbie, those subtleties don’t apply to me; 3. I adjusted the hammer response per the instructions on page E7 of the manual. I adjusted it to Option 1 = Fast. (not sure if this made a difference); 4. I adjusted the Reverb per the instructions on page E8 of the manual. I adjusted it to Option 1 = Off. This definitely made a difference; 5. I adjusted the Chorus per the instructions on page E8 of the manual. I adjusted it to Option 1 = Off (not sure if this made a difference); 6. I adjusted the Touch Response per the indications on page E24 of the manual. I adjusted it to setting 3 (Function + Ab6). This definitely made a difference. In fact, if you set it at touch response = off (Control + F6) the pop could be heard in another country! Counterintuitive I thought, but hey I am no muso. So, the combination of these adjustments means that although a faint tapping sound can be heard from the left speaker(s) when striking my two problem keys especially when using the damper pedal, the tap cannot be heard above the music unlike the former pop which even for a complete amateur was very off-putting. Of course, I am guessing if you disconnected the left hand speakers, the problem would be solved too but that would definitely compromise the DPs performance. I hope this means that you can solve your problem too. Good luck.
  3. My Casio Privia Px 850 has the popping sound that I believe that this thread is referring to. I found this youtube: https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=5lSEspHauEo which describes what is happening with my digital piano. They don't give a solution but it does show that this is a problem with "the way the processor tries to synthesize the frequency". However, in my DP's case, this happens with two different keys B5 and C5. I am a beginner, just just learning to play the piano to support my practice for my choir. Whereas the people in this thread appear to be musos. But, I did solve the problem for my use anyway. So, sorry if this is suck eggs stuff but I would have liked to have read this to solve the problem. Firstly, I did what the trouble shooting said to do with "sounds and/or effects sound strange" (4th problem in troubleshooting). I think it helped but didn't fix it. Secondly, figuring it has something to do with reverberation, I adjusted the String Resonance per the instructions on page E7 of the manual. I adjusted it to Option 1 = Suppressed. This stopped the popping sound and the sounds did not return after the piano was turned off and back on. Of course, this means you are stuck with a suppressed string resonance when you may want more reverberation. I don't dare try the other resonance options in case it "undoes" my fix and in any case, being a piano newbie, those subtleties don’t apply. Good luck.
