I use the stagepas 300 at home, and we tended to use Yamaha stagepas 500 for hire, I tend to find the Yamaha amps are very neutral in sound and don't colour the sound unlike many other amps. Plus you get the full wide stero effects. The 500 was powerfull enough to run a Viscount envoy 3 manual digital church organ in cathedrals.

OK I'll take the bait. You want the sound of a £6000 cvp 609 which is basically the top end clp480 which is now a clp585 and a tyros 5 in a piano that costs £700-720. I have played Roland Yamaha kawai Casio didital pianos yes they are all different, everyones ears are not the same hence some prefer roland for warmth over yamaha. Why does the organ sound on my Casio not sound like a Viscount envoy? Because an Envoy costs £8000 - 11000 not £700-720. Why is the grand piano sound not like a Yamaha C3 acoustic grand £20,000 because its only £700-720. I think you get the picture If your going to compare sounds compare like for like products. I can tell you there is nothing on the market that gives you the flexibility of altering the sound to your needs at this price point. And by the way much as I like piano man chuck I think he's spent to much time playing old acoustic pianos in pubs the man has no touch whatso ever. If you like the DGX650 which was nearly abandoned by Yamaha when it was the DGX640, then buy it and have fun with the cheesy rhythmns. Yes the keybed seems to get critisms not for feel only for noise but what do you want for £700-720. In all the years working in the industry building and delivering Casio digital pianos I can't recall ever having to go and uplift one for repair. In conclusion you either like the sound or you don't you either like the feel or you don't but please compare like for like. Anyway that's quite enough of me on my soapbox. sorry if I've upset anyone

Have had the PX for a bit now and can honestly say I am completely happy with my purchase. Key bed rattles and is louder than I'm used to, but is very responsive. Would have no trouble recommending this product.

I have to agree with Scott. I worked for several years at a yamaha home world shop(other brands are available) Owned a Clavinova was always a yamaha keyboard player until recently. I have just recently bought a PX 5S and I'm impressed with the expressivness and sound of the grand pianos. Through headphones its sublime but through my Yamaha stagepas its excellent and certainly not thin. I would have no doubts obout recommending this piano. Anyway thats just my 2 cents. Thanks Graeme. PS. We always used Sennheiser HD201 at the shop cheap but brilliant for pianos.

Just a quick update. Whilst on a trip to a cold, windy and snowy Edinburgh I popped in to my old shop for a chat and a possible cup off coffee. After all the pleasantries and being shown all the new hybrid Yamaha pianos the new CLP range and a beautiful £20,000 acoustic grand piano the inevitable happened, Ordered a PX 5S should arrive in the shop on Friday Why is Friday so far away no doubt i'll have plenty of questions.

Hi Scott. Thanks for Taking the time to read my post, I did miss the community even though I was only involved for a short time. I guess I was just unlucky. For all the time I worked at The piano shop in Edinburgh I've lost count how many Casio's I've built and delivered to customers there never seemed to be any returns or faults.

Thanks for your reply. I was always envious of the PX 5S users, Bur couldn't afford one until now. I have watched every video on you tube including all Mike Martins live clinics and am convinced its what I want, and i'm even selling my beloved Yamaha Clavinova as its going to be surplus to requirements.

Hi folks, As the title says thinking about revisiting Casio. About a year ago I purchased a Casio XW P1 with high hopes. joined this forum, even joined facebook despite resisting for many years thanks to Scott Hamlin (curse you) Loved the P1 from the minute it was plugged in. Loved the features sounds were great but most of all loved the hex layers. However the love affair was short lived. within 2 days the keys became clicky scratchy and velocity was all over the place. Took it back to retailer as you may remember P1s were like hens teeth in UK due to the XW's being discontinued, so no replacement and had to go for repair. 6 weeks later P1 returned don;t know if the key frame was repaired or replaced but the gaps between the keys was like a broken fence some with huge gaps others with gaps non existent., but it felt tight so I was going to let it pass, however within hours some of the keys started to click and grind just like before so I had a choice send it back again and be without it for another 6 weeks or get a refund. reluctantly I opted for the latter, so my brief time with Casio was over. As time passed I really missed the P1 , and missed the synth scene. (have since purchased a Waldorf Blofeld Keyboard) Now my fortunes have changed a have the opportunity to buy a PX 5S or another synth/ workstation Possibly the MOXF6. As I can purchase the MOX for the same price as the PX5S through my old work, its a conundrum. So after a long ramble I can get to the point. 1. How have users found the build quality. 2. Can you create your own orchestral hex layer and layer two together. 3. Is the key frame the same as all the other Privia's.( PX5S;s are non existent in Scottish music retailers but have access to the PX350) and can order on line from England. Like yourself I had resisted facebook until I had purchased a P1, joined the Casio Music Forum and was invited to join the XW FB group. Like the forum it is informative and fun with a wealth of knowledge. Will check out you newly uploaded sounds when I get my P1 back from Casio.

This is what we did at my shop in september with the yamaha tyros 4. We knew the tyros 5 launch date we knew how many 4' s were left @ milton keynes so we bought as many as we could afford to sell pre 5 launch. Or it could be down to poor or slow sales in Uk, (At full price, big decision to buy, pre xmas price drop, no brainer Units fly off the shelves) We wait with baited breath.

I totally agree. Why would it be on the stand alongside the PX5 and in the live feed if it has been discontinued, it would make no sence. I'm only reporting the view from my old shop and what music retailers are putting on their websites. It would seem that retailers in UK/Europe cannot order XWs for what ever reason. Casio USA seems have a different stance than that from Eurozone.

More UK music retailers advertising sale of XW P1 and XW G1 because its discontinued stock. I was on another music retailers site today who were stating this. An officail statement from someone at Casio would be nice. Confirm or quash the romours.

Hi Jokeyman, Yes read your topic "pooched my XW". sorry to read about your problem, only wish I'd joined the forum and read your post before I charged ahead and did the update. fortunately all went well and had no problems. My problem with the P1 was several keys in the key frame were very noisy, scratchy and very clicky, from the outset, the shop I bought it from had no more in stock so were unable to swap, so back of to Casio it went. Having played many keyboards, digital pianos from all different manufacturers, some very bad keyframes, but at least all the keys were bad not just some. So I await the return. Hope your situation gets sorted, You would think there would be a simple factory reset that could be done cheaply by casio, when my daughter unplugged her laptop during critical updates it would not reboot. All that was needed was a simple reinstall of the original OS. all of the data on the hard drive was recovered as well, reinstalled handed back £40.00 ($65.00). Thanks.

As the title says. In december had to give up work due to ill health (although still get the chance to go in for staff cover, or a chat with coffee and a play around) Why did I love going to work? Because it was here. And second withdrawal is still no P1 back from casio. so I've had to invent my own synth using an old Yamaha EZ30 into a Boss GT10 guitar processor with some interesting results.

Definately sitting. Never gigged with keyboards, or guitars any more. plus there is no headroom in my loft unless I stand in the middle of the room. I use an office chair, don't have any problems with the arms, this allows me to move around various instruments and computer without getting up. No P1 in picture because it's not back from casio yet.

Maybe they're upgrading the Keyframe. Its probably the only thing I would change. but at the price I paid £199 ($325) you dont get any better from other brands in the same price range, and all said once I get mine back from casio with a fully functioning key frame i will be delighted.

Sources from my old work have kind of implied the same XW P1 discontinued. Here in the UK a large guitar retailer with a recently opened Digital store apparently bought up the remaining stock and was selling it for £199.00. So the only UK stock is ones that shops have in their stock room. I couldn't get my shop to order one or even if they could they couldn't price match at £199.00.

Have been looking into USB Audio interfaces which look good in principle, the cheaper ones have RCA phono L + R in and USB out to computer as well as RCA phono L+ R out to mixer. I have 1/4" jack to RCA cables Don't think I can get away with buying much more "stuff" 11 guitars Boss gt10 processor 2 Guitar amps Small PA Yamaha CLP digital piano Yamaha psr Casio XW P1 I'm currently having withdrawal symptoms at the moment as P1 has gone back to casio for repair (3 keys very scratchy and click when pressed) Have resisted joining facebook this long. But I guess "resistence is futile" Definately will have more questions. Cheers.

I think looking at Sonar user interface compared to Adobe Audition for my level I may be going down same route as Scott do all the Keyboard stuff first then upload to Adobe. then add the rest of the tracks.(typical guitar player doesn't need a keyboard player, I'll do it myself, why do I need a drummer when I've got a drum machine) You would think I should Know better Having Worked for a large Sound and lighting company and latterly a Digital piano and keyboard shop in the UK. Although in my defence was a Yamaha Homeworld and yes other brands are available. Thanks.

Thanks guys, Definitely can't use Audio line in on lap top, the background noise, electrical interference is terrible (pretty low spec laptop) . Yes had noticed that sonar had recognised P1 via midi. Have downloaded file, but not being computer savvy that's as far as I've got. Any Ideas how to install this file. I'm old school, very analogue . Guitar > Pedals > Amplifier > noise. Thanks again.

Hi, thanks for the quick responses. I guess I was looking for audio not midi( GT10 sends audio both ways via USB) I assumed P1 would do same, that would explain a lot. Was trying to avoid using mic in and Soundcard on Crappy laptop, sound quality s rubbish. Will have to look at other options, matbe an older Boss br600 digital recorder. then import as mp3 or wav to Adobe Audition . Thanks again.

Hi All. I've recently purchased an XW P1 to put down drum tracks and soft synth pads as backing tracks for my guitar. I use Adobe Audition and have downloaded Sonar X2 (30 day trial) as a test as I could not get Audition to recognize the P1. P1 not recognised by X2 either. Connection to computer is via USB only. I use a Boss GT10 guitar processor connected via USB. Both programmes recognise the GT10 at start up. The P1 is recognised by my computer when connected via USB. File transfer using data editor is not a problem, have been into MIDI setting and set as follows, MIDIOutSel [ USB ] USBOutSel [ key ] MIDI in [ON ] USB In [ON ] Any help would be greatly appreciated. I assume the P1 is the same as the GT10 Guitar > input GT10 > USB > computer (Audition) Audition output back via USB to GT GT10 outputs L & R TO Mixer. This allows the ability to live record in Audition and listen at volume at the same time. P1 > computer ( Audition ) via USB > record track with P1 Sound out from Audition back to P1. P1 output L & R to Mixer. Is there something I'm missing or just having a senior moment and doing something stupid? Thanks in advance. Graeme.
