  1. That was going to be my first question. How would you know what the patch would sound like without the synth hooked up. It appears you have this covered, though. I don't know if I could program that way, myself, but it sounds like a worthwhile update to the software for those, like yourself, who wish to do so.
  2. You are correct. The "user" rhythms are really just tweaks of the preset versions. Here is some previous discussion regarding the WK-6600, which has the same capabilities as the CTK-6200, just a larger keyboard and increased event capacity for the sequencer: http://www.casiomusicforums.com/index.php?/topic/5692-can-create-rhythm-patterns-for-wk-6600/ . I'm a new 6200 owner myself, and it definitely has a couple of annoying limitations, but I'm having so much fun playing around with the tone editor and arpeggiator that they don't bother me too much.
  3. Sweet! Thanks for bumping this thread. I'd love to find one of those KX-101's. Nothing quite says 1980's (my glory days!) like a boombox synth (except maybe a Flock of Seagulls hairdo)!
  4. Edited for correct info. Sorry about that, nuronerd. I totally screwed that up. I guess that's what I get for posting advice on a keyboard I've had for a day and a half and after 2 hours of sleep the previous night. If you're still with us and it's not too late, try this: 1. Press the Song Sequencer button to enter that mode 2. Press Function + Song Seq. button. This will show your editing options. The first one highlighted will be Event Edit, which is what you want, so... 3. Press Enter 4. Press Quantize. This will take you to where you can select what to quantize 5. Scroll until ALL appears in the heavy brackets 6. Press the Tone button with the corresponding note division you want (1/8, 1/16, etc.) 7. Press Enter. This will show you the YES/NO option. 8. Press Yes 9. Press Exit Your track should now be quantized to whichever value you selected. Really sorry if my previous advice added to your confusion.
  5. Easy sampling is always loads of fun, whether you're a kid or a middle aged guy who still acts like a kid (like me).
  6. You can purchase a midi retrofit kit that may work on this unit, but it wouldn't be cost effective (~$45 for the board alone plus assorted jacks and wires, plus paying someone to install it). Your best bet would be to look for a CTK-2300 or 2400. You can get them for ~$100. I believe both have usb. edit: Just realized this was in the wrong section. Should be under CTK, etc. general discussion.
  7. You'd probably want to look into some kind of MIDI pickup. I'm not familiar with this kind of gear at all, so I don't know if they only work with specific synths or any MIDI gear, or what other limitations they may have.
  8. I asked Mike a similar question via youtube, and he told me that any of the sequencer tracks can trigger any of the internal sounds. For example, though tracks 1-5 are labelled for drums in the manual, they don't have to be used for drums. Based upon this, I'd say you should have 8 monophonic tracks for whatever internal sounds you want to trigger with them, 1 polyphonic track, and 4 controller tracks. How this applies to external instruments via MIDI, I can't answer. I trust happyrat knows of what he speaks, however.
  9. I don't have an XW yet, but it's on my short list. Mine would be used for Berlin School all the way: TD, Klaus Schulze, etc.
