  1. I'm NOT saying that software, videos, etc. are bad ways to learn or that they have no advantages. They can be very useful and if they get more people playing and enjoying music, that's great. But YOU asked where they are lacking and I answered. Technique isn't just finger numbers. Body, arm, and hand positions can be shown, but if you don't do it right, there's no one to tell you that. If there are weaknesses in your playing, I don't know of any software that can tell you, "hey, your fourth finger is weak, you need to develop that and here are some exercises for it," or "to get from here to here, instead of what you're doing try doing it this way instead." Meanwhile, my piano teacher does this with me all the time. I've seen it tons of times. Someone will post about having some physical difficulties which seem likely due to issues with their technique, and the only answer is for them to find a teacher who can analyze what they're doing and correct it.
  2. Yes! It's all in the manual and you can connect your keyboard to a computer to do it, or use a USB flash drive (I think). There appear to be some songs from Casio you can download, and you can also use MIDI files. http://support.casio.com/storage/en/manual/pdf/EN/008/PX850_EN.pdf
  3. The first thing I would check are the headphones themselves. Make sure the headphones sound full and have bass response with other sources. The other thing might be that for some reason, the headphones aren't connected properly and somehow you're getting the sound in mono and maybe things are cancelling each other out.
  4. Proper technique. There are aspects of this that are much better suited to someone observing how you play. Software or videos can tell you what you should be doing, but they cannot give you feedback to tell you if you're doing it correctly or not.
  5. How often do you use the headphone jacks? Next time this happens, try the headphone jacks, and see if the speakers work after you unplug your headphones. Perhaps the switch in one of the jacks is sticking, and inserting and removing the headphone plug may free it.
  6. Erm, I don't think so... I would generally take this to mean don't PM Mike. a) It doesn't help everyone learn and 2) he can't answer everyone. Even if he did, it would be a while before he got to you.
  7. If you want to record the audio from your keyboard, you need to use the audio outs and connect them or the headphone jack to your computer. You might need an interface to do that, depending on the Mac model. Some do have audio inputs. If you have one, you can connect with the right cable. MIDI only sends data such as Note On, Note Off, and what note it is.
  8. But Casio did announce new products at NAMM in January. http://www.casio.com/news/detail/casio-to-introduce-new-electronic-musical-instruments-at-winter-namm-2017 There was even a thread about it. http://www.casiomusicforums.com/index.php?/topic/12930-namm-2017/& I get why some here might be disappointed with those announcements. Those aren't really products on my radar, either. But that doesn't mean Casio has been quiet as far as EMI. I wouldn't expect nor want them to announce too many new products at once nor even close together as that can cause some products to be lost in the shuffle. Also, Music Meese is a different market than NAMM. Casio sells different products in different regions so what gets a big push in the U.S. might not even be available in Europe or something.
  9. I didn't think it came back on once you turned it off, but I haven't checked in a while.
  10. Have you tried plugging in the headphones and removing them again? There's a switch in there to disconnect the internal speakers, and perhaps it's getting stuck. Reinserting and removing the headphones may free it.
  11. Are you running firmware version 1.13? http://www.casiomusicforums.com/index.php?/announcement/4-make-sure-you-are-using-firmware-version-113/ If so, see some other threads on the topic. But for most people, once they are running 1.13 the problem goes away. The other threads have a link to a survey about this if you are running 1.13. Put the update on a USB stick and do the update even if you have it.
  12. The PX-860 should work with newer versions of macOS. Get a copy of MIDI Monitor (it's free) and see if it shows MIDI data when you use the 860 with your Mac.
  13. Hold down the Function button, and press the lowest F key to lower by half steps, press the lowest F# to raise by half steps.
  14. It may depend on the organ tone you are using. Try the sustain pedal.
  15. Check under System Settings and see if the speakers are enabled. The internal and external speakers are the first two items when you go to that area. Another thing to try is to insert and remove the headphones from the headphone jack a few times. There is a switch in there that disables the speakers when using headphones, and it is possibly stuck. Make sure to try both headphone jacks.
  16. Capo - available on iOS and Mac AudioStretch - iOS, don't know about other platforms Anytune Pro+ - iOS, don't know about other platforms
  17. Isn't this due to the fact that the USB device is formatted as FAT? I suppose Casio could implement VFAT or something, but I don't know what that would introduce or if it would take up space they'd rather use for data.
  18. Mac OS X 10.6.8 is the latest version of Snow Leopard. I can't imagine how connecting your Grand Hybrid to your Mac via a USB cable would break anything. You should be fine.
  19. They had to get yours to you somehow, right? A quick search led me to this. There's a support page with service centers shown. http://www.soundtechnology.com.au
  20. Is there such a thing as "Casio Australia"? They would be the ones who could tell you if there are service centers on your little island.
  21. I've heard that some non-Apple camera connectors don't work. If you can try it with an actual Apple connector, that would be your best test. It's hard to tell if songbird got an Apple connector or changed USB cables. I'm guessing it's the former.
