  1. It's called GarageBand. Actually, that's largely what Apple did. They stripped all the MIDI Out from Logic and ended up with that. GarageBand takes what's difficult out of Logic and gives you a pretty simple multitrack recorder that also records MIDI to play the built-in software instruments. Here, MIDI is only used as a controller to play the internal sounds.
  2. On most Stage Settings the four knobs are set to EQ - Low, Low mids, High mids, and High. First, make sure all these are set to zero. Second, what is your amplification? Some systems might emphasize the frequencies you're talking about. Third, see if turning down the Highs or the High mids fixes it for you.
  3. Yeah, I could have changed my settings so it wouldn't sleep, but didn't feel like bothering with it.
  4. Sorry, Brad. The only problem I had was when I forgot to keep my iPad awake and lost the connection when it went to sleep. If I had a newer Mac, I would have AirPlay-ed from that, as it's set to not go to sleep nearly as fast.
  5. Ooh! I forgot about AirPlay! Streaming to TV...
  6. Too bad Ustream doesn't do Apple TV. It would be like having Mike in my living room!
  7. No, the All File at the beginning of this thread is not what you have that came with the PX-5S nor the firmware update. You need to install the All File separately.
  8. I run mono. I only run one speaker for my monitor so there's no point in stereo for me. It's also easier on the house, most of them don't think in stereo either, or each instrument as a point. If I ever get a SpaceStation, that will change things at least as far as my own monitoring.
  9. These are heady questions! A lot of what you describe just depends. If the venue is small and the amps & drums provide enough sound for the venue, then running just vocals through the PA is not uncommon. Also, since everyone in the band wants "more me" I'm not sure that putting everyone in the PA would help that. I mean, they'll just want their instrument louder in the monitors then. One thing that's a common problem is that guitar players often don't point their amps at their ears. Instead, the amps are pointed at their feet, and they wonder why they can't hear them. They often also drink, which seems to make people turn themselves up. Built-in speakers on the PX-5S would probably not be loud enough to help you with this situation. Having everyone in the monitors would only help if the problem is that band members couldn't hear each other. That doesn't sound like what you're describing. When I run into a PA, I go from the keyboard into a DI (direct box) and that signal gets split to the PA as well as to my amp if I use it. Sometimes I let the house provide my monitoring but then I usually can't hear me.
  10. Congrats, Max! I hope you can share what you do with it, and enjoy the keyboard.
  11. Yeah, it's just the headphone port as described on page E-6 of the manual. http://support.casio.com/storage/en/manual/pdf/EN/008/PX150_EN.pdf You'll need to provide the venue with a way to connect to the stereo jack. Remember, this will also mute the internal speakers so you will either need to provide your own amp to listen with or the venue will need to put the keyboard adequately in the monitors. Some venues handle you giving them stereo than others. You might want to talk to the sound person ahead of time if you can.
  12. Yeah, but that $200 Logic already comes with some really good plug-ins.
  13. P.S. I moved this topic to an area that is more appropriate and maybe more people will see it. Also, MIDI doesn't carry actual audio, just musical performance data. If you could hear MIDI, it wouldn't sound musical. It needs an instrument on the other end to play the notes that are being told to play.
  14. I just had a quick look at the PX-700 manual. While other Privia models have Audio In jacks so you can listen to CD players, MP3 players, etc. via internal speakers, I don't see that feature on this model. If it did, you'd route the headphone out on the Mac to the Audio In on the keyboard, not the MIDI. Your only options are to connect the Headphone out on the Mac to some sort of speaker system, or to get an interface for your Mac that connects via USB or perhaps Firewire depending on the Mac model and converts the audio that way, but you'll still need the speaker system. The advantage of the the interface is that it can also give you some audio ins for your Mac if you want to record other instruments with a microphone such as voice or guitar.
  15. Who gave this topic the great rating?
  16. I get a kick out of the covers of the manuals for the Privia series. They all place the keyboard on that modern-looking oval table, slightly askew, with the chair right there. For example see http://support.casio.com/pdf/008/px_110_01_e.pdf I guess it's to show you can use the keyboard anywhere, you don't need a keyboard stand and bench. But I find the attempt at the generic nature of the image rather funny. I've also noted that the PX-5S manual cover simply removed most of the features of the keyboard. That could be any Privia. http://support.casio.com/storage/en/manual/pdf/EN/008/Web_PX5S-ES-1C_EN.pdf What do you guys think?
  17. (I always seem to be asking this) Do you have another keyboard and MIDI cable you can plug into it? The PX 110 has MIDI In/Out, and using another MIDI keyboard you can test a) whether you can play the PX via the other keyboard, and whether you can play the other keyboard via the PX. This would tell us if the problem is the PX's keyboard mechanism or connection, or the internal circuits.
  18. I had the Radio Shack version, DP-4073 I think. It was a pretty nice board. I sold it when I got the PX-3. It was a pretty nice board, though I like the action on later Casios better. It's a great board for some, and can be found for a great price.
  19. I'm a little confused by what you've written, so my apologies if I've misunderstood. You can't record the sounds of your PX-5S via MIDI. MIDI only records performance data (keys played, pitch bends, and so forth). In order to record the sound of your PX-5S, you'll need to connect it via the Audio Outs on the PX-5S to the Inputs on the Mbox. The track in Logic will need to be an audio track with the inputs of the Mbox set up as its input. The Mac/Logic will still not show it as the PX-5S. It's just some audio source to it. If you do want to record MIDI data, the track in Logic has to be the right type. I haven't played with Logic Pro X in that regard (I have Logic 8) so I'm not sure what the track type should be.Software Instrument is one type, but that's usually to play Logic's instruments or a AU plug-in instrument. If you want Logic to be able to control the PX-5S like a sequencer on playback, the track type might be different.
  20. They aren't anywhere on your PX-5S until you actively save them there. You get to choose what Stage Setting slot in which they get stored. See this thread for more info. http://www.casiomusicforums.com/index.php?/topic/4778-tutorial-how-to-install-px-5s-downloaded-files/ As far as the pedal and rotary, I'd have to think about that. I've not had an issue when it was set up, but it's been a while since I've messed with it. Hopefully someone else will chime in with a better answer.
  21. I don't know if anyone has done a preset for Money, but I can say for sure that the wah effect can be controlled from the sustain pedal. There are Clavinet Stage Settings that already do this that come with the PX-5S, and Mike Martin demonstrated it in some of the videos.
  22. I can't say for a fact that they are, but I would guess they are similar. I know that all the x50 and the PX-5S use the same action, which was an improvement on the previous generation (x30 and PX-3). There were some differences between the x30 and PX-3, but I'm not sure if there were any in the action itself or if it was just the surface of the keys.
  23. I think you'll want to read this thread. http://www.casiomusicforums.com/index.php?/topic/6597-px-350-keyboard-mod-success-at-last/
  24. Check out this thread and see if the answer is in there. http://www.casiomusicforums.com/index.php?/topic/7015-almost-decided-upon-the-px5s-but/?hl=transpose
  25. Can the PX-350 set up different zones to control different things like the PX-5S? Besides what Scott said, the PX-5S would be a much more powerful controller if it can do the splits and zones while the other models cannot. While the PX-350 (and 150, and the rest of that series) may be technically older than the PX-5S, they're basically considered part of the same line up and as time goes on, will be considered about the same age. Just like the PX-3 and the 130/330/etc. series are about the same age (though the PX-3 actually had a different keyboard and action).
