  1. it's set at 100, prob by default since i haven't used that feature. if the XW vol is over halfway up, it distorts.
  2. i replaced my harmonica with amaverick's tone...it's just better. I'l listen to Brett's later. i posted the dilemma of harmonica tone on HC forums, and the best point made is the fact that so much variation in the breathing, dual tones and mouth position makes a single tone duplication tough. maybe messing with the mod wheel and sliders with different fx may get it closer.
  3. i run my XW-P1 L/R thru the PX line in L/R and heard quite a bit of distortion the other day that i didn't notice before. i looked at the PX line diagram and noticed it goes thru the master compressor and eq of the PX. I thought i turned the master compressor off (didn't i read a post about this being on by default and recommended turning it off?). I ran the XW thru the PX in mono and it sounded clean. Any comments about this? I'm going to run more tests later today and check on settings and different wiring arrangements, so I may edit this later, but just curious if anyone else had any issues with running instruments thru the PX line in/out is stereo?
  4. thanks... I'll listen to it soon. I uploaded my harmonica (with split bass). http://www.casiomusicforums.com/index.php?/files/file/506-basshar/

This is what I started for the 'harmonica' challenge. Split bass and attempt at harmonica, but looking for a 'good' harmonica.

  7. there's a lame harmonica (IMO) in the XW and I've tweaked it some, but still sounds more like an accordian-like creature. I looked on the web to try to find the tone harmonics for the single note and can't find anything... i added layers with different c of tone, as well as trying a fourth/fifth/sixth/octave up. Anyone know a harmonica guru that may explain the tones or harmonics involved? I realize it may not be possible to get it exact given the computing engine and filters involved, but it's fun to mess with it and try to get close enough so it sounds believable to people in the audience. I got rid of my harmonica or I would play a single tone and use a waveform analyzer to see what's going on there. Anyone want to try a collab with me to get a tone? I'll have to upload what I have later... and i realize there are many types of harmonicas... The harmonica tone would be similar to the one used in 'Last Dance for Mary Jane', or if u could duplicate Stevie Wonder's tone since he uses a chromatic piece?
  8. this is a good site to learn about all sorts of audio production... they do a good job of explaining things in easy terms. it's arranged by topic, so you'll need to bounce from one topic to the next. http://tweakheadz.com/guide-to-home-and-project-music-studios/

A stage setting that sounds good for the Jimmy Buffet song Volcano. I took a standard setting and added/changed it. It's not exactly like the song, but sounds good anyway.
  10. Yeah, I've owned Yamaha, Korg, Roland, Casio products over many years... I've had many questions over many years and do you think tech support can answer them all???? I can't even remember calling tech support unless it's a hardware issue that I'm thinking the machine may be broke. Has user forums answered them all???? If you get impolite and impatient people, let them complain and buy another product... then they will buy everything on the market and still not be pleased. You can tell I don't work for customer service. If u want to buy a highly technical product, expect it to be highly technical... and you can't write a manual to cover everything. if u want something easy to use, spend less than $100 and there u go!
  11. Sorry, but doesn't work for me as a harmonica... i like the 4/4 drum phrase tho and may use it elsewhere.
  12. I made this awhile back and can't remember exactly, but modified a SS and now use this for the Jimmy Buffett song Volcano. Not exactly like the song but sounds good on stage. download it here: http://www.casiomusicforums.com/index.php?/files/file/504-volcano/
  13. sound is subjective... if u don't get anything soon, edit your post with a sample of/ link to exactly what u want for the sound and we can try to duplicate it. The PX has some killer rhodes sounds,,,
  14. Good idea for a pinned 'stage setting' for a song request... you should also do this for the XW synths. my prob is using the XWP1 over the PX and using my preference of un-weighted keys for most custom synth (solo & hex) and organ sounds... some of the songs willf mentioned are already available with minor tweaks or adding a custom zone over an existing setting, ie, I use one of polysynth settngs for 'Jump', Whiter Shade of Pale, Africa,,,
  15. I have the Deep Dyno Rhodes in my 0- bank, where I keep my 10 best of each type of setting.
  16. where did u buy this? new? did u contact them? sounds to me like u got a device with failed firmware, but I'm not an expert here. if u can't get to a menu to initialize it, then contact the vendor and demand a replacement. Mike may help.
  17. Strong concert grand style. Maybe not like a real grand but more punch.
  18. I loaded a new stage setting into 0-0 I thought I was loading it into 9-9. So instead of loading the stock 0-0 grand, I was wondering what others had for their favorite? Looking for a nice, full impressive sound... OH, and how do i load the old 0-0 back in if i don't have the zpf file for it? I have the orig zal file.. can i load it from that without loading all orig presets? Dl'd most piano/grands and liking the ConcertD2. Thanks for the link Mike... I couldn't remember where it was. Between he Facebook and Casio posts, I can't keep them straight.
  19. i know that you can use the data editor software to convert the midi to a phrase... i've been doing that, loading it on a usb stick and loading the phrase in the PX. Since you're doing drums there may be some midi translation issues with the parts, ie, snare may be an A1 on the Yamaha and C1 on the PX. I don't know if that's ever been standardized using channel 10 midi or not over the years.
  20. I got invited to play with an acoustic trio (guitar, vocalist, keys) and was wondering if anyone else was doing this? I'd love to have a good stage setting with drums, bass and piano or the like... if u have anything like that could u pls upload it to the stage settings? or if u have another way that u manage your live playing... I'm trying to avoid using more than one keyboard for this to keep the profile low. Edit: I noticed that the Whiter Shade stage setting has a drum setup, bass, and organ.
  21. that's the trick... u must use the DE to convert the midi file to a phrase file... which can only be done AFAIK with the PX or XW hooked up to the computer USB. OH, just noticed the post... let me try to run the DE without the PX hooked up. and SUCCESS! Guess I need to go thru the whole process before I open my big mouth about something. I could swear (did swear) that previous versions of the software would not open unless the instrument was attached via midi.
  22. Just looked at the DE manual and it looks simple. Just wondered if there was a way to do it directly. It's kindof a pain to have the PX or XW hooked up to USB to run the data editor... i understand why, but it would be nice to work on a different computer away from the instrument and save some phrases from midi on the USB stick. Must not be much of a demand to do it. My Casio request would be a small prog maybe on the iPad that converts mid to a phrase.
  23. Haven't opened up the data editor yet, but if I create midi files to play and insert into stage settings, do I need to create a phrase from the mid file in the data editor and then insert the phrase in the stage setting? I do quite a bit on a different computer with midi, and the PX is in another location... just want to confirm there's no quick way to insert my mid file on the USB into a stage setting?
  24. +1 on good B3 organ sounds desired... and maybe a nice guitar lead like on the Roland synths. I have to admit, I like the organs on the XW-P1 better, esp sending the midi out thru the iPad with Galileo loaded up sounds pretty good.
