  1. The Bose L1 Compact? The one that weighs 30 pounds? No way I'm carrying that on the NYC subways! I need light and small........ I didn't know they could be ran on batteries - do I have the wrong unit?
  2. Cool; thanks. That distance is the same as my basic On Stage, and I thought it wouldn't be wide enough... It will leave a foot at either end - so if that's cool, cool. I'm either going to buy that or build my own out of PVC pipe at 10% of the cost and hopefully the same weight - 7 pounds. This is for a busking application, to be played standing up by me at 6'6", so the tops of the white keys from the ground need to be 40" ideally. Obviously, the PVC has to be stable enough or it's the K&M 18880!
  3. Given the chassis on the PX5S, what is the minimum recommended width for a stand? It's 52" wide, and the K&M 18880 is 28" wide - is this enough, or will the chassis be put under too much stress? Thanks....
  4. Can somebody please measure the distance from the bottom of the PX5S to the top of the white keys? Thanks!
  5. Original Street or Street EX? I tried the original at GC today; sounded good but I'd like louder. I only have room for one - I don't want to carry 30 pounds!
  6. More like a laptop, then. Cool. I ordered mine today - will be here sometime next week, as is shipping Monday!
  7. So, I'm ready to place my order, and I notice that the wall wart is being sold as an "optional accessory" on one internet seller's website.... I'm not sure the salesman will know, so... Does the PX5S ship with a power brick/wall wart? Thanks....
  8. Hey, I vote for the Chick Rhodes then! Anything Metheny would kill..... Stanley's tone on both BP and AB would cover it all nicely, actually. He's one of the few cats that truly sound great on both. But, whatever you can come up with is cool!
  9. As to weight, Denon-Marantz are releasing the Envoi, which appears to be perfect, with a 10" woofer, but 41 pounds. There's actually a ton of battery powered portable PA systems out there, but they all weigh way too much or are of dubious quality. I've yet to find a powered speaker that uses a wall wart. If I can, the RavPower would appear to work.
  10. Power brick. Converts AC to DC. Found on every laptop.
  11. I play tenor and alto.... I can't find any lightweight AC power solution, so I think I'll have to go for either one of the Rolands (KC110 or Street Cube EX).. Either that, or just buy a new battery for my Samson Expedition (if they are available). I played my Kawai MP11 through it today at high volume. It's clean enough, but I was wishing for a bigger presence. I'm not sure the $500 spent on a new amp will sound that much better than the Samson, which has served me well for yeas for backing tracks for saxophone. What I'd REALLY like doesn't exist - the PX5S of amps - really lightweight (like 10 pounds max), really loud and clean, and a wall wart. That way, I can use a RavPower. Come to think of it, what powered PA speakers/amps DO use wall warts? Any?
  12. This new JBL EON portable PA system sounds fantastic (at least with a phone inputting MP3): http://www.jblpro.com/ProductAttachments/EON206P_Datasheet_082114.pdf But, no batteries and 25 pounds. Might be great for piano. Next trip to Guitar Center for that one....
  13. That looks pretty cool but, no batteries. Looks like no wall wart, either, which means deep cycle battery & inverter. Too much weight! Thanks, though.... never heard of 'em before....
  14. I agree regarding stereo for busking. Obviously, there's no stereo triangle involved. Except perhaps regarding the ability to output whatever sound I'm using in mono - is this available as a global feature, or is it sound specific? As to the bass, the Samson has a 6" woofer and does a good job of playing background music with loud bass. It has bass and treble EQ, which helps. I may be able to replace the battery. The Roland Bass Micro Cube might be good, but it's only 5 watts. I would have to think that the Street Cube EX, with 2 8" woofers and 50 watts, would be better.... SPL ratings are new to me... what are they? I'll certainly have to bring my Samson to a store that has the Street Cube EX and a-b it. Of course, my local Guitar Centers don't have it, and have to "special order it." Then, of course, they want you to buy it. I'd rather buy local, but such brick and mortar stores can't really compete with the mail order houses in this regard. Same with PX5S - nobody has them at the store.
  15. I second the E bass.... Stanley Clark, Jimmy Haslip, too How about A bass - Ron Carter, Dave Holland, Eddie Gomez, Rufus Reid, Miroslav Vitous, etc. AP - Fazoli, Bosendorfer EP - Chick (I know Yamaha actually sampled Chick's Rhodes and is including it, blah, blah...) Guitar - Pat Metheny (obviously, you could have several ones there, also his guitar-synth)
  16. I'm looking for the most portable, lightest amp for piano and playing backing tracks for my saxophone, for busking - in New York City. I don't want to screw around with a deep cycle battery & inverter - too heavy. So I'm left with battery contained devices. My current busking amp is the Sampson Expedition 40iw, but its battery is failing, and I don't think it sounds that great on my Kawai MP11. For my forthcoming PX5S, I'm looking at the newer Roland Cube Street EX. Their keyboard-specific KC-110 is also an option, but it's only 20 watts (or 30, if the RavPower device is used, per PianoManChuck's video). And I've heard it's bass-weak. The Steet Ex is 50 watts (again, I don't know if that's with AC or not). I may end up with two RavPowers, one for the keyboard and one for the amp. The Street EX is guitar-centric, with some useless guitar-type effects ("distortion," etc.). But it's stereo, has two 8" cones and 1" tweeters, is 16 pounds, runs on batteries, has all the connection goodies, blah, blah, blah. And it's *only* five hundred bucks. Anybody use one of these things?
  17. Shall do. FWIW, I auditioned the Mackie SRM 150 PA today.... Not really enough presence for piano - too small. Back to the drawing board on the amp. I DID also audition the JBL EON portable PA, and it is fantastic! And 25 pounds..... (no batteries. It draws 45 watts. How much does the PX5S draw?
  18. Hi Jimmyjames - OK, you're off the hook! No, I don't know Tony. Jazz is my thing. I remember Salem Witchcraft from years ago. Didn't know they were still active. I'm sending Steely Dan an audition tape. THAT'S the Rock gig I want!
  19. I just discovered this: http://chargetech.com/product/portable-power-outlet/ It has an AC outlet!
  20. Here are photos supplied to me by RavPower for their RP PB14: They note that I'd need two units to power both the PX5S and an amplifier. I'm trying to find an inverter for the amp. It has to use a "barrel" connection, like the kind used on laptops. Does anybody know if any of those sizes will fit for PX5S's wall wart input? Does anybody see any reason that this won't work for the PX5S? And any idea how long it will charge it for? It's 23,000 mAh. Thanks... PS -click on the thumbnails to make them full screen size.
  21. Well, as a horn player myself (saxophone), congratulations on having a horn section! I would humbly suggest hiring them ALL of the time, and simply use they keyboards for other, more noble purposes.....
  22. Actually, I've been avoiding Facebook for months since it eats time! So, thanks.... (just kidding...) As to the CP4, I think the keybed is really excellent, as are the Rhodes. But the AP sounds are not up to the same standards, and it's just too heavy to carry around town. Of course I love my 71 pound Kawai MP11, but it's strictly for home use. It's also a fairly "Luddite" instrument, with only 40 sounds. So the PX5S will be the polar opposite! I should have it in about a week or so, depending upon how long they take to ship it to me. Remember, I'm a Jazz saxophone player of 42+ years..... Piano is my double, and I'm trying to play it at a high level as well. Not an easy assignment!
  23. Cool. Of course, no local stores stock the PX5S, so all I have to go on is this Forum and the available demos. I was strongly considering the Yamaha CP4 as my gigging slab. I think it has excellent Rhodes and, of course, Yamaha got Chick's Rhodes for their Motif line (I don't know if that is represented anywhere in the CP4). I passed on the CP4 due to weight (38 pounds) and the fact that its AP samples are one dimensional (no sympathetic string resonance). I intend to busk with the PX5S, so 25 pounds is what's happening.... My "at home" slab is the fantastic Kawai MP11, which has excellent AP samples, the best keybed in the business, and weighs *only* 71 pounds...... I look forward to getting the new board and downloading the sounds. Newbie question: Does a downloaded sound *replace* an onboard sound? Or are they stored in the USB stick? Thanks...
