  1. 3000's short fulcrum and heavier key weight than my PX-5S = an issue for me. Is there any way to lighten the action? I don't mean the touch response. I mean like shaving weight off the weights. I get fatigued, and I have good piano technique. I don't have this issue with my PX-5S. Thanks.
  2. Hey, this answered the question I just posted in a new topic, so that can be deleted. I was confused since I was not using a stage setting (or so I though, since I was not using an internal sound source). Anyway, I set my PX5S to "tenor saxophone key" (Bb) and that lowest "A0" means that the "B" two notes above is actually the lowest sounding note. Not to be a total nerd, but how to get those last two notes (Bb, A, which now "sound" as Ab and G)? How to input the desired lowest note OTHER than using a key to select same? Thanks...
  3. OK, so I set up a split for piano and bass... Now, I want to use a VST piano (Ivory Fazoli). I can use "Omni" for MIDI channel, and the entire ranger for the keyboard sounds the Fazoli piano sounds. BUT: If I use MIDI channel 1, only the range that I assigned to the piano (for Casio sounds) sounds. The rest (bass area) is silent. I can't figure out how to make the zone "whole." Hopefully that is enough information... Thanks...
  4. OK, I've got "local control off" to permit my VST electric piano to play across the entire keyboard. I've done that on a global basis, by pressing "sys setting" and then paging through the MIDI choices (transpose, octave shift) to get to "local control." Now what do I do to assign "local control off" to a specific zone only (rather than the entire keyboard) so as to permit me to use the PX5S bass along with the VST electric piano? Also, pressing the zone buttons doesn't seem to do anything at this juncture (if I want to use, say, as VST bass). Tx...
  5. I don't know if this question should go here or in the controller section, but is it possible to use a combination of a virtual instrument and the sounds on the PX5S? As an example, a VST Rhodes and the Casio's bass. Similarly, how about varying the split point for two virtual instrument, again, say, electric piano and bass, both VSTs. Thanks...
  6. For the programmer types out there: Whatever split point you pick (say C, C#) between bass and piano will work well for some tunes, but not others, depending upon key, etc. For example, I was trying this with "Cherokee," a really fast Be Bop warhorse. It's in Bb. I'd want the split point probably at F/F#. Currently, I get some bass notes and some piano notes in the walking bass line. Is there a way to assign the split point to one of the knobs or sliders? I'm guessing there isn't, since they are independent. If not, what would be the workaround? Create a dozen of them and plop them into adjacent stage settings? Thanks...
  7. BradMZ, there is indeed a "take01" wav file in the "music.dat" folder, and it plays back on my computer. I tried to record several takes, but the others are not there. That's OK, as I captured the song idea. I renamed it on the computer and, sure enough, for playback on the Casio it said "no file" under "audio select." So, apparently, in order to rename files (and therefore have some idea as to what they are), the workaround would be to copy, rename one (for computer playback use, keeping the take number to correlate with the non-renamed version), and keep one as is, for Casio playback use. Then look to the file folder on the computer to see what's what. As to writing, I followed the above directions and a new "take01" was indeed saved and plays back on the Casio without renaming. Per the above, it is not necessary to utilize the "write" or "ENT" save protocol. That was what was confusing me (page 11 of the the manual). Jokeyman123, I use VLC media player or Transcribe to play files on my computer. I'll check out that Goldwave. Thanks, guys. You should rewrite the manual!
  8. I just spent the last 20 minutes trying to record and then play back something that came to mind - and to save it, and name it. All I got was "take one," "take two," etc. I failed (I think). I read the directions in the manual. Nothing is intuitive. Nothing would play back, however. So.... Please, some simple, step by step instructions for recording your own playing. Not a phrase, just one's own playing. Just use "start playing" to start recording. Don't need the other methods. This can't be that difficult! Thanks, and please don't say "watch the videos." Unless I'm prepared to spend the next several hours just trying to figure out one thing, that won't help. The videos are great, but they're not a book and lack an index or table of contents. The info in the manual was useless and did not work.
  9. I own the Kawai MP11, which features a similar but improved keyboard to the Kawai VPC1. I've now owned the Casio PX5S long enough to make the following comparison: The Kawai is like butter. It's landing is softer. It's touchweight is slightly lighter. It's key length and pivot is much longer. Thus playing on the inside of the keys is easier. There is more throw in the Kawai. The Kawai weight almost three times as much as the Casio. The Kawai feels more like an actual piano. The Kawai has a much simpler interface and is easy to use. It only has 40 sounds and really fulfills a different function. The VPC1 has touch curves that are germane to the individual VST instruments. The MP11 does not. I think the Kawai MP11 is about as realistic a piano keybed as is available for less than 10 grand or so. The Casio is probably 90 percent of the Kawai. I'm glad I own both.
  10. To change volute of external devices: SYS Setting button 69666 -/no or +/yes buttons to actually lower or raise volume This type of command sequence would be helpful in chart form; i.e., list what the desired function is, then the buttons to press as set forth above. My problem is that I'm a "Random Abstract," like Branford. This board uses menues and submenues, like Wynton: "Consequential Sequential." That's what Ellis called 'em. Perhaps a page could be made so that everybody could contribute?
  11. The title really states the question, but to repeat - I want to change from just electric piano (or just piano) to an electric piano / bass split - on the fly. So, I would go from comping to walking bass lines, then back to just piano, etc. I need to do this immediately, not by going through multiple pages/menus. Is there a one button solution? Thanks.
  12. I am shopping for a tablet. There are many things that I do not like about the Apple product line (anything of them). I won't list those here. Thus, is the app or a like one available for Android? Thanks.
  13. Connecting line in and out is addressed in the manual on page e-8. There's nothing there about a volume control.....
  14. Cool; thanks. So as not to erase the existing stage setting ("normal" piano-bass split), should I save it in a state setting that I don't care about?
  15. OK, I'm trying to learn to play walking bass lines in the left hand and improvise eighth and sixteenth notes improvs in the right hand... It's coming along fine, and it occurred to me that my right hand is much more advanced than my left. One useful exercise is to reverse the hands - play walikng bass lines in the right hand (1/4 notes), and improv 1/8 and 1/16, etc., lines in the left hand. So.... How can I set up my PX5s so that the left side of the keyboard is piano (electric or whatever) and the right side is bass? I think the split point should be higher than it is for normal playing. Thanks!
  16. OK... Where do I find EXTERNAL AUDIO? I hate to be a "TechnoDonkey," but I think the problem that I'm having is that everything is under multiple pages and layers. Is there a flow chart of all of these buried functions somewhere? I am not good at file system management on my computer, so this is going to be a challenge for me. If there is no chart, what's the best way to QUICKLY find out where all the functions are? The manual does not address these issues. The videos are cool and informative - is there a handout that lists what Mike Martin goes over? If not, I'm simply going to have to watch them with a notebook in hand and make one. Thanks for your help. Technical difficulties aside, I'm enjoying playing the board.
  17. I've watched some of the videos. There is a ton of information in there. A chart covering the topics, arranged by time that they start, would be great. I have a better Presonus that I just got out of storage. I'll try that one and see if the problem persists. Is there a volume control for either of the line in or audio in inputs? Thanks!
  18. Hmmm... "Midiot" here... 1. How do I make the knobs send CC messages? 2. If I monitor from the sound card, first, the sound is distorted. This is especially true if I run the sound card into the input on the PX5S. BTW, is there a volume control for the line in? Should I use the 1/8" audio in instead? Is there a volume control for that? 3. How do I turn LOCAL CONTROL OFF? I don't see anything called that. Again, sorry to be a Midiot, but, after all, I AM a saxophone player!
  19. The topic title is pretty much all that's needed, but to repeat, What I want to do is: (1) use the PX5S with one of my DAWS (Pro Tools, Cubase; also Sibelius if possible); and (2) play virtual instruments This will require, well, what? Obviously, I need the PX5S to not make any sound itself, but as far as a "template" or whatever... what do I do? My Axiom Pro 49 key controller has a template. Thus, all the controls (knobs, sliders, etc.) on the Axiom Pro function and work as if they were in the DAW. This is also true for Sibelius (both are owned by the same parent company, Avid). Is there a template for the PX5S? How do I turn off all sound and get the PX5S to hear the virtual instruments? I know how to manipulate the VI's and how to make them recognize the PX5S. All I need to know is what manipulations to do on the PX5S. Thanks!
  20. The ACLU is free. Detroit's Farmer's Market has a $5 busker license and is well run by the head of the Market. No "busker wars." I make more busking than playing bar gigs, and I can play whatever I want. As to portability, saxophone is excellent. This weekend, I busked the BIrmingham (tony suburb) Art Fair. Artists are selling $4000 paintings there, etc. Due to rain issues, I only brought my saxophone and amp (no piano). I did get rained on once, but I quickly put my equipment in the case - no damage. I've brought the PX5S out twice. Even at 24 pounds, since I'm also carrying my tenor, it's a bit of a challenge - and I'm 6'6 and in good shape. However, one guy brings vibes, a heavy Roland BA amp (on a speaker stand) - not exactly portable or light! I also have a Melodica - the ultimate portable busking axe! Try it.....
  21. I'm in suburban Detroit, Michigan. Busking is protected by the First Amendment as protected free speech artistic activity. Artistic speech is second only to political speech in terms of protection. Using an amp complicates things and gives the police a cheap excuse to crack down. "Blocking the sidewalk" is another of their favorite ruses. They can't stop it. They always lose if it goes to Court. So, go ahead and try it! Houston must be like LA (where I was last year). Anyplace that there are people will do. Farmer's markets, etc. Outside of bars is best! A stand is a challenge. My PVC one works pretty well so far, and only three or four pounds.
  22. Hi Joe - Cool, I'm playing saxophone outside (busking) all weekend (threat of rain, so no PX5S...). I'll get to this Monday. I take it that after these are loaded in, they'll show up in the Editor? Is it possible to come up easily retrievable "favorites" (e.g., Tine + Fretless Bass, 9 Drawbar Organ + Acoustic Bass + A Couple of Percussion)? Parenthetically, the PX5S worked great for busking last weekend (on my homemade PVC stand), until, at least, the cops came.... They don't like amplifiers these days. I asked them if they'd buy me a Steinway and wheel it out to Main Street, but they declined... I got away with it the next night, in a different location, but they need to be "mellowed out" on this. I'm meeting with the ACLU on Thursday. If they won't sue the city, I'll do it myself.
