  1. Hi to all involved in this issue--The last thing Stuart or I want to do is to get anyone angry...not necessary--we obviously like our privias but have come across a problem that we're looking to solve. I described in pretty well--the word "Bell-tones" may not be appropriate but the piano sounds,(on my unit) do sound clangy, metallic,or deep on the attack. I've downloaded many of the sounds available and they all have this quality--the piano sample, on my unit, sounds as if the hammers on the piano were striking the keys in a sharp, tinny, way--This is NOT to malign casio--I love the website, all of the other sounds, the layering, the stage setting buttons etc. I wish I could find a store that carries them so I could check out another unit. I may buy another one (from sweetwater) just to compare and make sure its not something unique to my privia. But in the meantime, lets all be at peace and keep trying to help each other in a positive way. Thanks to everyone.....
  2. It seems like a factory reset would be the easiest way? I have all of the custom stage settings on a USB--so if I do a a factory reset, all I need do is load my custom stage settings?! sounds like a plan....How do I do this??
  3. Hello everyone-- I'm glad my "topic" has gotten this much response. I, too, have a lot of experience with pianos--I've playing for approximately 55 years and have played many keyboards--(and no, the dentist drill has not affected my ears)..... Let me clarify my position--and don't get me wrong, I love my privia--it's just the piano sounds Ihave a problem with. Maybe a "bell-tone" is not the best description. Let me see if I can do better--- The notes above middle C have a clangy sound--a bit metallic--possibly an agressive attack that can't be removed via adjustment--thus, bell-like (albeit a muted bell).... i've played the keyboard for other musicians and they all hear it---Is it possible it's a defect in my keyboard because it ain't my ears!! Anyone else have some explanation as I am earnestly trying to solve this issue without getting another keyboard. Thanks!!
  4. HI BRADMZ-- It doesnt happen when I'm playing the sk-1 by itself and the privia is fine by itself--it only happens, intermittently, when I'm playing the privia as a controller for the sounds on the sk-1. i tried using a different piano as controller for the sk-1 and it didn't occur--only with the privia. What do you think?
  5. HGi Stuarth25--I agree. I'm hoping BradMZ or one of the experts will read this and help with the problem. Can someone of the experts, any of you folks, help with this probTHE PRIVIA IS AN EXCELLENT INSTRUMENT EXCEPT FOR THE POPPY/BELL-LIKE SOUND THE PIANO SOUNDS MAKE. I'D BE MORE THAN HAPPY TO PAY TO GET A SMOOTHER, FULLER. LESS CLANGY PIANO SOUND. CAN THIS BE DONE?
  6. Hello- This is a topic I read about from another user. I've scrolled through all of the piano sounds--I've even downloaded almost all of the extra piano sounds, and all of them sound bell-like or clangy. I went to guitar center and tried different amps (QSC;EV-etc) and this didnt solve the problem. So I plugged in my 20 year old Roland Rhodes MK-60 into my studio monitors--and no bellish sound. All of the other voices on the privia sound GREAT--but I cant get a good piano sound. The problem seems to originate from the way the sample was made reproducing the way the hammers hit the strings in the piano?! I REALLY DON'T want to look for another keyboard but I really need an authentic sounding piano. Is there some way to modify this sound or is there something wrong with my privia or something else. Please give me some input on this, as it is driving me bonkers and my music is very important to me. Thanks so much!!
  7. OK-- I might need an expert for this one. When I play the sk-1 by itself on the same channel (1) it plays fine. When I play a different midi instrument (as BradMZ suggested) the problem doesnt happen. I've located the exact place where it does--When I hit the D, G or A above middle C medium or hard, the first time I hit it , it doesn't play. Thereafter, if I hit it again, it does play. What is going on? Is there something wrong with my Privia?
  8. Aron- I'm not really savy on midi channels etc. How do I play the sk-1 sound on the same midi channel I am controlling? I haven't touched the midi channel settings--I'm just using the midi cable to play the privia's keys and accessing the sound from the sk-1. I'm not sure what you want me to do.....
  9. ok-- i'll try it....But what does the resonance do?
  10. HELLO--I SET MY SLIDERS AS FOLLOWS: #!-CUTOFF; #2 RESONANCE; #3 CHORUS; #4 DELAY; #5 REVERB. WHEN I MOVE THE SLIDERS UP AND DOWN I HEAR CHANGES IN THE STAGE SETTINGS EXCEPT FOR RESONANCE. WHAT CHANGE SHOULD I BE HEARING? AND WHY AM I HEARING NO CHANGE? THANKS GLENN
  11. Hi-- whne I'm playing the privia, using the sounds from the sk-1 through midi, the privia cuts out and intermittently wont play the sound from the sk-1. What's up?
  12. Hi All--Will using the new firmware version 1.13 change the sound of any of the stage settings? Glenn
  13. Hi Brad--no other midi instrument--I have 2 sets of cables and the cut-out happens with both of them?? Help!!! Thanks
  14. Hi Brad--I tried your suggestiion but my privia still cuts out intermittently when I use it as a controller through midi with my hammond sk-1. Any other suggestions?
  15. Stuart--You're not crazy. I have found the exact same thing on my Px. The bell sound is driving me crazy. When I listen through the headphones it sounds better and--get this--when I recorded it from my speakers and played it back through the speakers it also sounded fine???!!! I tried adjusting all of the eq's and the touch adjustment-- but the bellsound is still there. If I can't get rid of it, I will look for another stage piano--which I don't want to do cuz I love the other sounds and have become perettu adept in making my own stage settings. HELP BRAD or anyone else. Glenn (Rocknrolldentist) I posted about this problem before!
  16. Hello- I often use my px-5s as a controller connected to the sounds of a Hammond sk-1 but I've been finding that as I'm playing live with the band, the keys often cut out during the song--ie nothing plays intermittently when the keys are stroked. I checked all of my cords and they seem OK--what could cause this and how would I remedy the situation. Thanks
  17. Is there a way to listen to this sound before I download it? Glenn
  18. HI--You guys have all been great with your suggestions. I WILL bring my px to the music store and try a new one and try the aforementioned amps. But before I do this, can anyone suggest preferred eq settings that I can try to make my pianos pop? Also, are there any slider settings I should be using--as of today i have slider 1 set on attack, slider2 set on resonance, and 3,4,5 set on delay, chorus and rreverb respectively. Can or should these be changed to represent something better and more productive. I'm open to any suggestions--I've been playing keys for 40 years but the new equipment has me perplexed!!! Thanks again.....
  19. Ok--a lot of differing opinions here. I've adjusted my eq on the privia to be where my ear likes it--high on the treble end, lower on the mid and higher on the bass end. I am using the rock piano (which is bright like I like it to be) and the grand piano, which is dissappointing my ear, as it sounds dull and muted. At home I'm playing stereo through 2 M-Audiio Bx-5s, and it still doesnt reproduce what i'm hearing on line through my Mac. The search for a good piano reproduction has been going on for a long time for me---I love the privia but I'm ready to go oout and try some other stage pianos to see if I can get the sound I hear on your videos. If you have any other advice, I'm all ears. please help. I'd be willind to get the CPS and try it out if you think that would help......
  20. Hi Scott--thanks for the input. I took my keyboard to guitar center and palyed it through several powered Pa amps-- The QSC and the Yamaha DXR12 and Behringer12 and I must say, they sounded boomey and boxey and not very clear. If the 2 rolands wont deliver that sweet piano sound (because I will say it sounds great on all the electric pianos and extra voices) what, then do you suggest?
  21. Hi guys-i'm presently playing through 2 roland kc 350 amps in stereo--the pianos sound clangy and not very bright...what do you think?
  22. Hello BradMz--What kind of keyboard amp is best yo use with my px-5s? I'm having a really hard time reproducing (only) the wonderful piano sounds I hear in your ads and tutorials. I love my keyboard but can't seem to get that lush piano sound(s) i hear on line. Any suggestions? Thanks Glenn
  23. Hi again--youre right-- it is subtle but I figured it out--very, very helpful--many thanks!!
