  1. Just a little clarification. Recording audio via USB - Some(many) boards provide support of USB-audio. This basically means that the board serves as a sound card(with certain extensions) for PC. It is very convenient feature when you work with DAW (and not only). You also could record via USB MIDI tracks on PC (which is not applicable to this subject).
  2. Played & Recorded on PX 360 Mixed on Studio One Prime
  3. Thanks! At least one person from all viewers liked it
  4. 1) What do you mean recording via USB? PX-360 does not support USB audio. 2) "bypass the onboard effects" - Which effects exactly? You can control level of effects such as reverb, chorus for each channel individually through the mixer ( see the manual - it is simple ).
  5. About missing a feel - the best feel from my experiance i found on Roland. try that before buying 660.
  6. No problem. I thought too large attachment would be rejected automatically.
  7. There is an example of a noise level. ADMIN NOTE: Please do not attach large files here. If everyone downloads this file (60 mgs) it would chew our monthly bandwidth in a day. Please upload to a video sharing service such as YouTube and link to it from here. Thank you.
  8. I cannot call myself an expert, however the fact is that I am becoming very picky once the subject related to the quality of a piano sound. I have spent sometime with PX-360 (which is 99% same as your model). I played on CGP-700 as well. Answering to your question I can say the best sound you can get right now it is by using headphones. None of built-in speakers provide quality PX actually able to produce. In my experience I get the best sound with toll loudspeakers. However just good loudspeakers do not solve the problem in the most appropriate way. Since you are looking for a piano sound, this means you need an appropriate cabinet I am not aware of any manufacturer who builds such acoustic systems (cabinet that looks like an upright piano) for home use. Therefore it looks like a DIY project. (Or try something like PX-860) Longer I use PX more I like its sound ( maybe this is why my opinion could be considered as slightly biased ) I have pretty toll ceilings in the living room (like 20 ft or so). The sound of PX is great from the distance. Solutions: 1) Headphones 2) Upright piano style acoustic system. 3) Exchange to PX-860. Off course the most realistic is just to add an amp and external speakers ( at least it will add lows ). I actually in addition have a mixer with EQ(no USB). EQ is never used to adjust PX sound. However it solves the problem with loudness ( if you do have one, I do not use headphone output on piano at all so I cannot judge that) Other comments about CGP. I did not buy one since the stand does not look firm. I know that for a piano the stand has to be very solid, Therefore I have built it myself. A lot of digital professional instruments do not have built-in speaker at all. So who cares about those speakers.
  9. There is an additional information on how to control automation parameters. Parameters such as velocity, program, volume and other are adjustable through automation in DAW. In DAW instrument track may have an automation. The automation can control different parameters during playback. There is no need to override any header. For instance automation parameter program controls a voice selected for the channel. Same thing about volume - the volume can be changed though automation during playback. For instance If you want to preserve you setting for volume for particular channel/port/track you can follow these steps: 1) (on PX) Record song as MIDI using PX recorder. 2) (in DAW) Port MIDI file to DAW. 3) (in DAW) Assign each track to output to particular MIDI port ( like PX-360 port 9 ). Let's assume you have only one track. 4) (in DAW) Open automation(volume parameter) for the track and remove all data from it . Automation/volume will show no dots in the editor view. Do not confuse volume and velocity. 5) (on PX) Now you can go to mixer bank C port 9 and adjust volume parameter as you want.(if C is set as MIDI output - it is a default setting for PX) (port 9 just for this example) 6) (in DAW) Start playing you song the volume will stay the same as you set it on PX. This is one short example. There are many variations how the automation can be used.
  10. Recently I have made some rearrangement of my stuff - keyboard, amp speakers, mix..., comp..., ... ext. It happened that loudspeakers ( `27'' tall) ended up standing under the desk which stands behind of PX. The table is a custom made(DIY) of pretty thin 5 layers plywood. After some time I realized that this setup gives me the best sound I ever had with PX 360 through external loudspeakers. Seems like regular loudspeaker cannot reproduce the sound(expression) of piano, obviously due to totally difference acoustic characteristics of a cabinet. Building own cabinet like upright piano with loudspeakers inside can be one of the project I could be willing to start. What is your experience in this area?
  11. Frankly speaking you need to listen somebody playing PX in order to test it. PX 360 has speakers mounted on the back side. You suppose to get a difference sound by standing at the piano and behind of it. Probably an audience gets better and louder sound than a performer.
  12. No. However since PX does not run on batteries you have to provide external source of electricity. Which means you can use addition amp and speakers :0) I remember you do not want to .;)
  13. I tried to control PX with MX61BK. Cut off, Resonance also Modulation and Pitch wheels work. Not very impressive.

  16. PX5 is probably closest model to FA and MOXF. They are still very different. Even FA and MOXF are not alike. The price difference is not so great. You get some discounts on MOXF and FA modes. The price gets down to ~1.5 grans or even less. The comparison is totally Ok. They all have 88 weighted keys with additional features to simulate action of real piano. They all are achieving the same goal. My PX is in perfect condition otherwise I would get rid of it. It actually still has almost 2 years of the factory warranty. The clear difference (in mechanical noise) can be found even in store (side by side). 2BradMZ - buy FA08 put it next to your Casio then make your judgment. I think that would be fair. Casio does not need excuses like "I suspect you may have a damaged unit". PX is a winner in term of the piano sound. That is one of the major reason why I keep it. I may have to look at Nord. (It supposes to but I have no confidence that Nord will be better. I played on it but for very short time) Maybe I will get FA-08 again but for different purposes (it is always a hard call). I expect there should some new releases soon, so I do not want to buy something outdated. It is not a question for me that Privia has nosier keyboard than Roland. This fact can have different reasons. One of the possible reason I see that PX may have faster keys. I cannot test this. All keyboards were fast enough for me. Roland is a champ at providing of the keyboard feel (I mean it is so enjoyable to play on that keyboard), but it is ridiculous that FA-08 cannot provide a voice of a pure grand piano. It makes no sense to have such great keyboard and no actual grand piano sound. I felt this dis-balance (awesome keyboard and synthetic sound - no matter how hard you try to adjust it).
  17. Record directly to DAW not to PX. You get the MIDI tracks which will not impact your setting on output port. Another option - the output port can be adjusted. It can be anything - A, B or C (check MIDI setting on PX). Such approach is not as straight forward as using of DAW.
  18. There is an additional information on the subject. I have purchased two keyboards during several last month - Yamaha MOXF8 and Roland FA-08. Both have by far quieter mechanics. It almost made me to keep them just because of that superb built quality. Especially Roland FA-08 provides keys with extremely pleasant feel. I do not know which keyboard is faster. But in terms of the mechanical noise PX lost in every possible way.
  19. The best options I get from integration of PX with Studio One. If you do not have one it is possible to get a Prime edition of it which is free. I used Prime for a year and recently purchased an Artists version just to show my appreciation. DAW allows to create an automation track for a MIDI instrument. Automation track opens access to all implemented (in Privia) MIDI codes. You will see that PX360 is much more powerful when it is integrated with DAW.
