  1. I have a couple of questions about PX-5S. My main board in my rig is a Motif 88 Classic. I've wanted to upgrade for sometime now but another Motif (XS or XF) will set me back more than I am willing to pay at this time. PLUS the weight it starting to get to me. I have gotten very used to the POWER GRAND piano patch. Can anyone compare the PX-5S pianos with the POWER GRAND in the Motif? What will I be missing? Lastly, it is also important that I am able to trigger sounds from an external keyboard on another midi channel like I do in MASTER MODE on the Motif. I am seriously considering the PX-5S. I really appreciate any insight you guys can offer. Thanks so much

  7. I'm trying to make a purchase decision between the PX-350 and the PX-5S. I'm mostly looking for a great piano sound (that the 350 has), but am excited about the PX-5S. Not very much more money for better Rhodes & Wurly sounds, effects, and more controllers. However, I'm not quite sure what piano features I'd be missing by going with the PX-5S. Does anyone know how the piano experience is different? (Are they identical?) I think the PX-5S doesn't support half pedalling, but are there any other differences in sound, features, keyboard feel, etc.? Thanks for your input!

A plucked & vocal synth sound reminiscent of the sound used by Jan Hammer in Crockett's Theme for Miami Vice.
  9. Before I was able to upgrade the firmware on my new PX-5S, I recorded a solo piano version of Georgia On My Mind, directly to the USB drive that plugs into the keyboard itself. Here is how it sounds. https://soundcloud.com/north-island-music/georgia-on-my-mind-solo-piano With the new firmware upgrade, volume control of the audio recording function is now possible. In general, I am totally satisfied with my purchase of the PX-5S. I play it every day!

Firmware v1.10 Required This Stage Setting includes a modified Concert Grand Piano Tone. In this Stage Setting, the main Concert Grand tone on the PX-5S has been modified with a lower "initial Attack". Some players like this more melodic piano tone. This piano tone also features a narrower amplitude range which makes it easier to control.

Firmware version 1.10 Required In this tone, the main Concert Grand tone on the PX-5S has been modified to provide a narrower dynamic range. For some players, the dynamic response may seem too wide or difficult to control. This narrowed response may be just what you're looking for. It is recommended that you use the "Piano<Dynamc" Stage Setting with this tone as this change in response alters the depth of the Damper Resonance Effects.

Version 1.10 or higher firmware is required. These are the Stage Settings will be included in v1.10. These are strictly here for backup purposes. Should you happen to delete or replace a Stage Setting this will allow you to get any of them back.
  14. Hi All, New to the forum, and new to keys. Have a new PX-5s, and am a bit overwhelmed. I'm sure what I need is lot's of time to goof around, but I have just a couple questions. Also, I need to say that a huge part of my decision to go with the PX-5s is down to Mike Martin. That guy popped up everywhere while I was doing research, and his level of engagement is just really impressive. So if you're out there Mike, a straight line can be drawn from your efforts to my buying this product. At any rate, here's my issues: *When I operate dial k4 while playing, I hear a slight but pronounced popping in the headphones. This is across all tones, stage settings, etc. Bad pot? Should I take it back? Since I'm new to the instrument, I don't know what I should be expecting as far as tolerances. *Hex tones Synth OSC and Filter OSC seem to have lots of white noise behind them. Is that normal? * The several of the Hex EPs seem to have a pronounced key-up sound, even if the key-down tone has decayed to silence. Sounds quite strange. Is this a feature? Thanks for the help, Mike
  15. How do you select Stage Settings from MIDI (Another keyboard or iPad Remote Control)?Bank 112, followed by a program change 0-99 will select the Stage SettingsWhen can I download the Mac/PC editor?Tentatively on or around April 19thI've tried all the velocity curves the piano is either too loud or too soft for my needsThe pianos are set by default for a very wide dynamic range (as are all Privia models). You can reduce the dynamic range yourself. Press the EDIT button, select TONE. Go to the AMP page. Find velocity and reduce it from a value of +64 to around 40. You'll have to scroll back up to the stop of the AMP page and reduce the overall volume to compensate. We will be posting variations on the piano for download later in April. What is the warranty on the PX-5SIn the US it is 1 year plus an additional 2 years when you register your purchase online. http://www.onlineregister.com/casio/registration/?category=Keyboards Can the MIDI Solutions Pedal Controller be used on the PX-5S for expression or sustainMany people have expressed interest in using this device with the PX-5S to use either as an expression pedal or to use with a continuous damper pedal such as the Roland DP-10. The MIDI Solutions product only transmits on 1 MIDI channel. This means that regardless of how you're using (expression or sustain) it can only control 1 zone of the PX-5S at a time. While we are investigating ways to provide better integration with devices such as this, this does NOT mean that anything is planned or guaranteed. If there is ever an official announcement of a firmware update you'll here it from me, here on this forum I've downloaded sounds from this forum and put them on the USB drive, but I can not load them. The files need to be placed in the MUSICDAT folder on the USB drive for the PX-5S to see them.
  16. There is already a firmware update planned for the PX-5S which should be out around the time units hit the stores here in the US. Highlights include: - Polyphonic Portamento - Added a second break point for filter and amp key scaling - Momentary/Toggle option for pedals - Additional waveforms added for use in HexLayer patches (6 varieties of Sawtooth, more than 10 varieties of pulse...etc) - Improved EQ - .Wav file playback adjustable volume. - Zone and Layer on/off switch from pedal/knob/slider - Real-time filter response smoother ...and more. I'll have more info in the next week or so.
