Zeus
I wanted to know if it is possible to load tones from other keyboards to the Mzx-500. For example a .ztn file from PX-5s to the mzx-500.
Chandler Holloway
No, the Hex Layer implementation and functionality is different between the MZ-X models and the PX-5S and PX-560. The principles of Hex Layer synthesis as a method of sound design are the same, but they’re built on different sound engines so they’re not directly compatible. The MZ-X is a very versatile performance sampler, however. If you’re looking to expand the library of available tones on the MZ-X, I highly recommend learning the ins and outs of Casio’s official Sample Manager software as well as a more fully featured sample editor application that will help you prepare samples for use with Sample Manager. Wavosaur is a simple option that seems to work well for most folks here. There are plenty of threads in this subforum that have covered the process of creating high quality MZ-X tones from samples of other instruments, so I’d definitely take a look back through some of the old backlog here if you’re not quite sure where to start. If you know where to look, you can find lots of free pre-prepared samples of synthesizers and pianos and all kinds of acoustic instruments out there. It’s frowned upon to share and request samples from non-Casio instruments on this forum due to the tricky issues of intellectual property that tend to arise with such things, but you’ll find no shortage of experienced MZ-X users here (and over in the Facebook user group) who can offer plenty of advice on how to prepare your samples and optimize them for performance settings. Just try support the sound designers and recording engineers who sourced these samples if you’re in a position to do so. Sample packs the creator intended to be freely available for public use are, of course, totally fair game, but pirating samples that are supposed to be paid purchases is super duper bad news bears.
Guivannitonos
