Footswitch Enabling of Arpeggiator?

Recommended Posts

Here's what I want to do: Hold the footswitch down, play a chord and the chord will be arpeggiated for as long as I hold down the chord. Now release the footswitch, play a chord and it won't be arpeggiated. In other words, enable and disable the arpeggiator with the footswitch. That seems pretty straightforward but AFAIK there is no direct way to do this. But is there an indirect way? What if I...

1. Choose SSEQ P/S as the function of the pedal for the current performance.

2. Select an empty sequence.

3. Enable the arpeggio function and select my arpeggio.

4. Set arpeggio HOLD to OFF and SYNC to S/S.

Will this work? Maybe I am completely misunderstanding the SYNC function. If I am, I would appreciate a lesson. Unfortunately, I don't expect I'll get a chance to actually experiment with this for several days. :(

Okay, I didn't think I would have time tonight to try this, but I did. It didn't work. It appears that SYNC makes the arpeggiator beats line up with the beats of the sequencer, which makes sense now that I have tried it.

I also thought to program two performances whose only difference is the arpeggio is on in one and off in the other, but the footswitch can't be used to change performances. (In this case it would have to toggle between two of them, which funnily enough is almost exactly what I can do with the non-momentary footswitch attached to my Fender Mustang II guitar amp.)

Anyone have any other ideas? Really, is this such a strange thing to want to do that Casio's engineers never thought to allow it?
