This patch is for the XW-P1, not the PX-5s. Sorry.
  2. Having a problem. Whenever I make mixer changes to the external input, they're lost when I turn the keyboard off and on. I've tried saving the step sequencer, tone, and performance. Also, sometimes (but not always) when I save one of those 3, the external input will stop working. I have to go to the mixer and toggle the part off and on to get it to turn back on. The first issue is more of a headache than the 2nd, as I have to set a specific noise threshold and volume, but it keeps going back to some default numbers. I also want the DSP on all the time. Anyone know a trick that will allow me to save and recall the mixer settings?
  3. I own a PX-5s, XW-P1, and WK3200. I use the first 2 when I perform with my band and the 3rd (by itself) when I perform solo. They all have their advantages and disadvantages. As for the keybed, I did a fairly easy mod to the WK3200 that improved the keyboard action AND quieted the keybed. My WK3200 now has better feel than my XW-P1. PM me if you want the details.
  4. Oh, and the white grease is Lithium Grease. You can buy it at Home Depot.
  5. I added weights to my XW-P1 keys to give it a semi-weighted feel, but I've been wondering if you could add a Force Sensitive Resistor strip under the keys and patch it into one of the knob controllers (or add a switch to turn the knob on and off). If done right you would add aftertouch (actually, pressure sensitivity...which is better) to the keybed. I'm tempted to try it.
  6. There is really only one answer: Standtastic (http://www.musiciansfriend.com/accessories/standtastic-122-ksb-48-double-tier-keyboard-stand-with-deluxe-bag) It's light-weight (24 pounds), portable (comes with its own bag), easy to set up and break down (collapses into one piece), and sturdy (no bounce, won't tip)!

The elusive Brass Swell (or Sforzando) tone! This exists on the earlier WK keyboards, but it's suspiciously missing from both the PX and XW synths. This one will give you a swell when you press it lightly and a punchy brass when you hit it hard. The velocity won't control the overall volume, only the envelope. For this to work you need all 3 files I uploaded: BRASSSFZ.ZPF (Performance) - Brass SFZ BRASS___.ZTN (PCMTone) - Brass - saved at U3-0 XW_SWELL.ZSY (Solo Tone) - XW Swell - saved at U0-1 If you want to save the PCM and Solo tones elsewhere, just edit the Performance and point at those. Zone 1 points to XW Swell. Zone 2 points at Brass. The "XW SWELL" tone doesn't actually produce any sound itself (all oscillators are off). I'm using this for the envelope only, as the Solo tones have more parameters than Hex tones. "Brass" is just the standard brass tone with velocity off.

  9. I have one of these: http://www.rocktron.com/midi-xchange.html I use it to work the volume on the drawbar organ of my WK3200. Unfortunately, I can only use it for standard volume on a single midi channel. If you can map CCs, you can use the other input for something else. Works fine with an MAudio EX-P pedal. I like the idea of patching in to the knobs. I'll be really curious how Hector's experiment turns out.

MUST ADD THE MONO PHRASE ON SLOT 103 for this to work! ALSO, MONOPHON ARPEGGIATOR ON SLOT 100 may be needed. Similar to the Growl Sax I uploaded before, this uses the Arp and Phrase Sequencer to make the keyboard monophonic. As before, I use the ring modulator to make the Growl. Knob 1: DSP on/off (you'll want to turn it off when you first activate the sound) Modulation: Vibrato/Tremolo combination Slider 1: Breath pressure (Cutoff/Volume on Trumpet) What is still missing is that crazy Glissando you hear sometimes. Physically modeled trumpets use a Glissando on the bend up. I tried to create a phrase to do that, but no luck. I KNOW it's doable...I'm just not good at creating phrases. Maybe someone else on this board can do that? Again, the "monophonic" effect is unusual, in that it will play the first note you hit only until you let all notes go. So, you have to play in a staccato style to really play this sound.

MUST ADD THE MONO PHRASE ON SLOT 103 for this to work! ALSO, MONOPHON ARPEGGIATOR ON SLOT 100 may be needed. This is something I've been playing around with for a while, and I finally think it's good enough to share. I've been trying to duplicate the Physical Modeling technology that Yamaha has in their VL line, particularly with the saxophone. There is one important factor to a good keyboard sax that the PX5S doesn't do, and that's being able to limit the sound to one note at a time (monophonic). I used the arp and phrase to create a pseudo-monophonic response on the keyboard. It's a little tricky to play, as if you hit 2 or more notes everything after the first is ignored. So, you have to play staccato to play fast. I also added a ring modulation for the "growl" effect. It works pretty well on most notes. The most important controls are: - Knob 1 will turn the DSP on or off. The sound activates with the DSP ON, so you'll want to move Knob 1 when you select the sound to turn it off. - Modulation: The modulation has a slight vibrato AND tremolo to give a natural sound of throat vibrato. - Slider 1: Breath pressure (Volume/Cutoff) for sax. I added a breath sound (using Breath ASax....Breath TSax was clashing with the main TSax) that isn't effected by this slider. The EQ knobs (2,3,4) and Sliders 4,5,6 (Chorus, Delay, Reverb) effect both the sax and breath sounds. The DSP, Breath, Resonance, and Attack only affect the sax sound (not the breath). I'll be interested to see what some people think. I'm not sure how practical this sound is for playing live, although I was able to get a decent approximation to the sax on Pink Floyd's "Money". Note: Since I'm using the Phraser, the keys are not velocity sensitive. That's what Slider 1 is for.
