App for live performance?

Can anyone recommend an Ipad app for live use?  Specifically I want something with better Hammond and string sounds.  Also it is very important to me I be able to run the Ipad outs to the PX-5S ins and have uninterrupted sound transitions.  Smooth sound transition or patch hold, whatever it's called.  I find the PX's pianos and synths great for what I need, but the Hammond and strings not so much.  Thanks.

+1 for Galileo... run the usb into the iPad... i run the iPad out to a mixer... haven't tried running the iPad out thru the PX in.  You can really tweak the organs to something real nice... and I use a Boss rt-20 leslie sim box to really bring out a nice rotating B3 or 4.

IDK about strings... they are somewhat lacking, i agree, if used solo, but sound OK in the band.

I used Garage Band at a live gig two weeks ago, solely for its Hammond organ sounds.  The Leslie on the Garage Band is pretty good.  I ran Garage Band from my IPad through the USB midi on my 5S and then ran the audio out to my mixer for both the 5S and the IPad.  I used a Soundcraft DI box so that I ultimately was running an XLR cable into my mixer from the IPad.  The little toy has a gain control which is helpful.

I was able to mix the organ sounds coming from Garage Band through my IPad and sounds on the 5S through the mixer on separate channels which was right next to me.

The stupid Garage Band App cut out a couple times during the night.  But for 90% of the evening, I had a pretty sweet set-up.  I have a Hammond XK-1 and I decided I wanted to only play with one board that night and thought the idea of combining organ and piano samples through one board would work nicely.  My music tech at the local Guitar Center told me that IPads will sometimes crash at unexpected moments.  He suggested taking off some of my Apps.  Maybe the new and more powerful IPad would be more stable.  I seem to have to jiggle the lightning cable a couple of times or pull it in and out to get the sound to work properly.  One time the volume seemed to drop for no apparent reason.  (I will have to experiment to make this more glitch free).  I will bet that the same Garage Band on a MAC will be more stable and sound better.  But I like the convenience of an IPad which I parked on my 5S.

My band mates were impressed with the set-up and didn't miss the XK-1 very much.

The only downside was playing organ on a piano keyboard.  It was a trade-off.  Having only one board simplified my set-up on a tight stage.

Although I really like the piano and electric piano sounds on the 5S, the organ sounds don't quite cut it for me.  So Garage Band or a second more serious Hammond clone is my answer.

Thank you all.  What I'm trying to do is simplify things with only one board also.  I may decide to look into a Musebox or something similar.  I really like the idea of using my Ipad, but I hear stories of latency issues and hanging notes. My bandmates would not be too happy if that happened.  I'm 95% happy with the PX-5S, don't get me wrong, but give me a workable organ and some killer strings on this board and I'll be a Casio fan forever.   :)

Have you tried the organ Stage Settings that are available in the Downloads? They may not be enough for what you're looking for, but they're worth a shot. They even simulate drawbar control with the sliders.

Also, you might be happy if you use the PX organs with an external Leslie sim such as the Burn or the Ventilator. Many times, it's the Leslie sim that holds back a keyboard's organ, and one of these two puts it over the top.

As far as strings, you might want to discuss in a thread where they are currently and what you're looking for. There might be someone out there who can help you program a Stage Setting that meets your needs.

Thanks, Joe.  I think if the PX had an extra pair of outputs a Vent would be a good option for organ, perhaps the next PX-6S?  I don't want to sound like I'm complaining because I'm not, just trying to get the most out of this great board.  THanks.

has anyone used the Boss rt-20 for rotary sim with the Px5?

Most people I know consider the RT-20 a bit dated in its Leslie sim. The Ventilator and the Burn sound much more realistic, they say.

Why the extra outs? Just put the Vent (or Burn) in Bypass mode and it shouldn't affect the sound at all. In fact, the Burn should be able to be switched into Bypass over MIDI, which is one of the nice features of the Burn over the Vent models, that it has different presets and MIDI control.

I use a V-Machine with VB3.

This is a vst instrument hardware player.

The V-Machine is a failed product that can be boughyt for a snip.

It can run VB3 with plenty of resorce to spare. i have been gigging with this every weekend for 6 mnths, Never ever let me down.

VB3 is by far the best organ vst instrument. I have a Korg CX3 and have stopped gigging with it, because the VB3 is better.

Burn has been mentioned above, This is also from the same guy as VB3, he also had input in the Crumar Mojo.
