Jokeyman123
Hello my little droogy-I wish I could tell you exactly which sounds to use-but since this was originally done by Walter, later Wendy Carlos (I still have my original vinyl of "Switched-On Bach" which was done with a whole laboratory of old-school patch-cable monophonic keyboards back in 1971 according to Wikidpedia) this is certainly a challenging project. She later used a Yamaha SY77 for subsequent recording in addition to all the old analog synths. Since he/she was probably creating several separate sounds from several separate monophonic keyboards, that might get you started. Without attempting this myself (Iown and play the XW) sounds like simple sawtooth waves with some filter sweeping. I'd try setting up a performance with several sawtooth tones-although you will be limited to the monophonic leads on zone one, you may be able to get pretty close with some of the PCM tones on zones 2,3 and 4. Back then, analog synths were limited to only a few waveshapes to work with, usually sawtooth, square, sine and some type of pcm (pulse) wave, plus filters and envelopes. So good luck, and there may be several others here who can give better, more specific ways to get these sounds. Was this a tough movie to watch way back then. And droogy (droog actually) is phonetically the Russian word for friend, ironic in this movie! I know, I had to learn Russian in school at the height of the Cold War!
XW-Addict
I think its doable also using and programming a few performances and a solosynth for that thumping bass sound. For starters. I would try to isolate the first sounds using and layering with Saw Leads and Mellow Saw with Slow Sqrleads.Set this up in Performance mode and use these Zone Param to adjust the effect of the pad for each zone. Oct.Shift TransposeFinetune Specially use finetune to have the fine finesse between two zones detuning or getting them in tune has considerable effect with +15 and +25 etc. Assign knobs in Controller for Channel pressure , Chorus , Attack , Cutoff or Low Gain. For the thumping bass maybe using Solo-synth tone TransientAmbient or something alike and edit it as much to come close to that sound.I would use combination of tones like SequenceSaw , SeqPulse , Va syn-Sqbs2 if those are available in the P1.
